Anyone signed up for this? Payments for shifting your energy use away from peak times/within a given timeslot each day.

@BarbaraofSeville 🤣 I had to charge my EV for an hour the previous day during that time period so I’m guessing in comparison to that it will be a huge reduction. I saved 2.71kwh. I also use a tumble dryer and washing machine around that time as it’s when I get home from work.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 07/12/2023 08:31

We always cook between 17.00 ad 18.00, so saving for us is not cooking, washing or drying. We have a ravenous teenage boy with muddy rugby kit nearly every day.

I'm opting in to them all, but not actually doing anything to use less so am surprised I had any saving.
Looking at my solar info I was using battery power for the session time and the same period the previous day, so any savings were incidental.

I changed to Octopus Flux Import/Export at the weekend and am now charging my solar battery with the cheap rate electricity between 2am-5am so unlikely to have any grid usage to speak of during the sessions anyway (unless they have a 2am-5am session, which is unlikely, and if they do I'd turn off the battery charging for that session).

Edited

you do realise that if you discharge the battery they pay you as well

I got £12 for discharging 3kwh to the grid during the saving session

I never use energy from the grid during that time as I am on agile so that was purely through sending battery power the grid

I am about £30 up I recon over the 4 sessions

I wondered but wasn't sure.
I've only just signed up to the Flux tariff and started charging the battery in the cheap rate, so wouldn't have had any charge in the battery to discharge last week but would have in the session this week.
Thanks for posting 😊

I have just received an email with results for 29th Nov and 1st Dec. Saved 5.37kwh over the two sessions £21.47 earned. It’s not showing in the app yet though.

It’s definitely inflated due to me coincidentally charging the EV during the same time period the day before.

sorrynotathome · 08/12/2023 05:57

@Filterphobia I haven’t had an email but this morning I’ve got some points showing in the app! I don’t know if it’s just for the 29th Nov session or for that one plus the following one, as it doesn’t say. I got 864 points which would be great if it was just the 29th Nov session, as it’s just me here and I’m not a huge user anyway.

Chasingsquirrels · 08/12/2023 07:39

The app doesn't show the details if there is still a session outstanding, but your online account will.

Troubledwords · 12/12/2023 07:45

Got all my points now, got less each time. Guess it's as I didn't switch some things back on, but also was out for some of the sessions.

I've got 3848 points or £4.81 so far.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 12/12/2023 14:29

Another surprise session today 5pm to 6pm. Wish they let us know a bit earlier, so that we could prepare a bit.

I hadn't got any notice of this one, so glad you've posted about it. Opted in, and will have dinner afterwards. I'm home today so it'll be an easier one to do.

bluevelvetbox · 12/12/2023 15:26

Nothing from EDF yet.

WednesdaysPlaits · 12/12/2023 15:38

I've had one from British Gas. Arrived mid morning. There's obviously unexpectedly high demand on the grid today.

this one is a test event - to see how many opt in with smaller warning periods.

the next test event may only be an hours warning.

the ones which are needed to support the grid are the higher paying ones.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 12/12/2023 15:58

@forgotmyusername1 Thanks for letting us know.

tribpot · 12/12/2023 19:03

This one caught me by surprise as I was out driving across the country and back, fortunately stopped to charge the car before the session started so I could opt in, only DH at home so hopefully we will have done quite well.

sorrynotathome · 13/12/2023 06:40

I got the message, opted in and then totally forgot about it until 5.15. Then couldn’t be arsed to go & turn all the outside Xmas lights off! 😩

WhathaveIdoneagain · 14/12/2023 11:08

There is another one today at 5pm to 6pm.

tribpot · 14/12/2023 11:47

Oh well done @WhathaveIdoneagain - nothing on WhatsApp yet, or Twitter.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 14/12/2023 11:50

I have looked at my phone right when the email arrived from Eon.

bluevelvetbox · 14/12/2023 12:47

Edf are also doing it - just signed up.

forgotmyusername1 · 14/12/2023 17:42

Also likely to be one tomorrow 5-6

tribpot · 14/12/2023 18:05

Ah yes you're right @forgotmyusername1 - I can see it on the DFS website: https://www.nationalgrideso.com/data-portal/demand-flexibility-service/dfs_service_requirements

Looks like it will be 90 minutes, 5:00-6:30 if I'm reading that right.

tribpot · 14/12/2023 18:12

Just seen it's on the Octopus website as 5-6.

Troubledwords · 14/12/2023 18:27

Well tonight's one probably didn't get me anything, I opted in, but was at work and had left dehumidifiers running, and switched lights on as I came in.
If there's another same time tomorrow I doubt I'll get much then either, but I can at least switch off the dehumidifiers before I go to work. Means washing probably won't get dry though. So we'll see.

bluevelvetbox · 14/12/2023 20:58

EDF are also doing the one tomorrow.

Does anyone know how many more there are going to be?
