Anyone signed up for this? Payments for shifting your energy use away from peak times/within a given timeslot each day.

It's not a good time for me, just have to make sure everything is off before I go to work this morning.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/12/2023 08:13

Well it's a terrible time for us because DP is going to be home for a few hours between 2 spells of working away and he's already said that he's going to spend the time doing his washing, which of course will have to go in the dryer.

First two sessions were easy because he was away and I was out at work so there was only the fridge freezer and wifi router on.

bluevelvetbox · 01/12/2023 09:29

Hi All. I'm signed up for the EDF. It's also the earlier time of 4.30pm.

froginawell · 02/12/2023 10:30

I did last nights again. Last year I donated all my points, which wasn't a great deal for various nights sitting by candlelight! But it is sort of fun...

BarbaraofSeville · 05/12/2023 11:42

ALERT!!

I've just noticed there's another saving session tonight between 5.30 and 6.30. I was looking at my account to see if they've updated the points for last week yet and there it was. I haven't had an email and there's nothing in the WhatsApp group.

It's not a biggie points-wise like the last two, but wouldn't want anyone to miss out on the fun of sitting in the dark eating a cold dinner for 50 pence off the electricity bill Grin

tribpot · 05/12/2023 11:53

Bloody hell, good spot @BarbaraofSeville . They've updated Twitter but that seems to be all. I see they are badging it as a 'surprise session' (surprise to them too I would bet).

tribpot · 05/12/2023 13:15

Just had a pop up on the phone, still nothing on WhatsApp

froginawell · 05/12/2023 13:18

Maybe it's a test to see how many people are watching this thread!

Thanks, I've opted in. A shame as I fancy a baked potato tonight! But will have to be pasta...

tribpot · 05/12/2023 14:16

Now had the WhatsApp as well!

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 05/12/2023 14:25

How long does it bloody take for them to tell you how many points you earned?!

bluevelvetbox · 05/12/2023 14:31

I've signed up with EDF.

Exactly what I was going to ask?!

Troubledwords · 05/12/2023 15:08

I got the WhatsApp message and signed up for tonight. I'm home tonight so we'll see what difference that is compared to last time when I was out the entire session

tribpot · 05/12/2023 17:05

I don't think the delay in getting the results is with Octopus. After the session all the energy suppliers have to submit their results to the National Grid and then I think there's some negotiation over the results or something like that. However, of our EDF friends have already had theirs that would disprove my theory.

froginawell · 05/12/2023 19:34

I'm sure it took ages for the first few last year, then they seemed to get the hang of it and it really sped up.

Another session done, was still working for most of it, which was handy as it meant I could just be in the office with nearly everything else turned off.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 05/12/2023 19:51

My kids started asking as soon as the weather got colder when we would start doing "challenges" again so weve done all the sessions. For some reason they absolutely love it.

MissAmyPond · 05/12/2023 23:58

I've done all of the challenges so far but don't think we'll have made much. Our electricity usage is way higher than it was a month or so ago just due to having to use the tumble dryer so much - sigh!

WhathaveIdoneagain · 06/12/2023 10:22

Eon sends the results after about 3-3.5 days.

Our savings are much higher this year. Last year it took me a while to work out how to get included, so we started late, but our max savings were under £4 per session. Now it is £5-8. Either Eon is more generous, electricity is way more expensive or we use more electricity than last year.

Filterphobia · 06/12/2023 16:41

My results from 29th November are in, I received 8672 points equal to £10.84, I’m made up with that. Can anyone remember was that the hour or hour and a half session?

How did everyone else do?

Troubledwords · 06/12/2023 17:18

It was the hour and half session. Only 920 points for me this time.

Filterphobia · 06/12/2023 17:51

Thanks @Troubledwords that explains my higher savings perhaps

tribpot · 06/12/2023 18:06

1016 points for us from 29th November.

Chasingsquirrels · 06/12/2023 18:09

I'm opting in to them all, but not actually doing anything to use less so am surprised I had any saving.
Looking at my solar info I was using battery power for the session time and the same period the previous day, so any savings were incidental.

I changed to Octopus Flux Import/Export at the weekend and am now charging my solar battery with the cheap rate electricity between 2am-5am so unlikely to have any grid usage to speak of during the sessions anyway (unless they have a 2am-5am session, which is unlikely, and if they do I'd turn off the battery charging for that session).

I've waiting for calculations from the last 3 sessions, not sure if something has gone wrong...

I got 888 points from 0.28 kWh saved, the house was empty then, which isn't unusual, but sometimes we're in with lights and laptops on.

But it sounds like they've found the culprit who's taking all the power during that time slot. WTF are you normally doing? Roast dinner in the oven, tumble dryer on before going for a long electrically heated shower?
