Our smart meters aren't connected, so not doing it here.

I'm in. Dinner in the slow cooker anyway, and TV will be off. Not sure what else I can do....

Headtorch!

Shoreditchintheafternoon · 15/11/2022 07:09

I've signed up for the session today! Set an alarm to remind me 😂 I'm weirdly excited at the prospect of making about £2 back 😂 I'm planning on going in the bath with some candles and watching TV on my tablet for an hour as soon as I get home from work. Will cook dinner after.

LovelyBitOfSquirrel69 · 15/11/2022 07:18

I've opted in but don't think we'll make the necessary saving as our usage at that time of the day is already very low.

autumnboys · 15/11/2022 07:23

I’ve opted in. Egg fried rice for dinner, so I got up and cooked the rice. DS1 and DH will be at work, DS2 will be home from college at some point during the hour. DS3 will be happy to come and sit in the lounge with the fire lit as long as his iPad is charged.

Same here tbh. I'm a v low user anyway - my usage between 5 and 6 is tiny.
Still, no harm in giving it a go.

Yes, I have my first one between 4 and 5pm today. To be honest, my usage is very small anyway so not sure if it will work or not, but worth a go!

Freeasabird76 · 15/11/2022 14:24

Yes,notified this morning 5-6 tonight,my poor kids will have to dinner early or late, freeze for that hour and be in the dark 😀

I've also signed up. There's a FAQ section on the website that goes through the rules. I haven't read it yet, but I hope it explains how you qualify so we can understand how not to miss out by making a mistake or misunderstanding the rules.

Have made a note to remind myself not to starting cooking until 6 pm and will spend the time before that reading up about it and explaining to DP what we have to do and why as he'll think it's another of my madcap schemes to make money.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 15/11/2022 14:31

Sorry, it's 5pm - 6pm. Thank you for making me check!

ilovebagpuss · 15/11/2022 17:35

We doing it now and have gone full power cut with candles. Like others we don't use much between 5-6 but even if we save 2-3 pounds that's a tumble dry run somewhere else!

NewBootsAndRanty · 15/11/2022 17:40

I think if i save anything at all it'll be about 2p Grin

popcornfrenzy · 15/11/2022 17:50

I'm down to 40W which equates to 1p per hour. We have zero lights on and everything is unplugged. Candles everywhere and dinner will be late.

gingercat02 · 15/11/2022 17:52

I wondered was I the only one sitting in candle light.

Everything is off except the router and the PlayStation. I may insist on them next time but I hadn't given DS any notice today so seemed a bit unfair.

It's very peaceful, just the clock ticking

heidihigh · 15/11/2022 17:53

I completely forgot about this today Blush my slot was 5-6 too and although I only have 2 lamps on currently, im not sure how much electricity we usually use between these hours so probably haven't saved anything!

froginawell · 15/11/2022 17:54

Sitting in the candle light here too! Looking forward to 6 PM so I can start cooking... I would often have the oven on, so I may make as much as 12p!

Actually is quite peaceful listening to the rain outside. Candlelight has a homely cosy feel about it. We're all watching our phones with rumbley tummies!

froginawell · 15/11/2022 17:56

288330 savers in this session! Yes, it's quite peaceful

Flapjackquack · 15/11/2022 17:56

Did anyone get a notification before it started? I am sure they said I’d get one through the app to remind me but nada. Luckily I remembered at 5.04

Haha same!

DreamingofItaly2023 · 15/11/2022 17:58

We have one lamp and the tv on. Switched everything else off at plug. Usually pretty heavy users at this time (oven, lots of lights etc) so hoping will be an improvement.

gingercat02 · 15/11/2022 17:58

Does anyone know when they tell us how many OctoPoints we have banked?

NewBootsAndRanty · 15/11/2022 17:59

Good blackout practice! Made me realise I need to sort out proper candles/battery lanterns at some point soon - a dozen tealights aren't really cutting it.

froginawell · 15/11/2022 17:59

Is it just for electricity? We've turned gas heating off too...

I bought a load of cheap pillar candles - the light from them is really strong
