We have had that email from them. Trying to decide if it would work for us or not 🤔 I would like to try if possible.

BritishDesiGirl · 01/11/2022 15:59

Yes l have l'm just waiting for them to inform me of the first session

Reluctantadult · 01/11/2022 16:02

Trying to get on this but finding it difficult to get in touch with Octopus at the mo. Our gas is with them, but doesn't show on our smart metre and they haven't sent us a bill. No reply to emails last week.

We are on octopus go, so it's cheaper overnight anyway. I'm getting annoyed that all my appliances beep loudly when they're finished! Need to remove the beeps!

NewBootsAndRanty · 01/11/2022 16:15

@Reluctantadult If you phone them the wait isn't too bad - I'm trying to sort out my gas usage not showing properly online atm (I can see it on the "old style" consumption page on their website, but not on the newer page or app. I don't have an in home display unit, and it's annoying me.
Have you given a reading to try trigger a bill?

The saving session scheme is just for electricity use; you just need to join online (the link's in the main link)

I've joined but not heard anything since.

Angelicapickles1 · 01/11/2022 16:21

I have joined. I am guessing it will be when they think there will be a surge in demand for energy maybe when a world cup match is on etc. It doesn't cost anything so might as well try even if it only saves a few pounds.

ChristmasComing123 · 01/11/2022 20:24

Hi we're with octopus and our gas readjng isn't sending either. Stopped around mid October. We've signed up for saving sessions but not been notified for one yet.

Hazlenutlatte23 · 01/11/2022 20:30

Yes I've signed up. I was hoping there would be a thread about this so we can share tips on how to save energy during those hours and compare how much money we get back!

Guineapigfosterer · 01/11/2022 21:29

Im signed up for this too because every penny helps at the moment

Larks39 · 04/11/2022 09:18

Have signed up. I’m going in big guns ! I will literally turn everything off. We have 3 adults and 2 children household.

Chest freezer and fridge will be fine if unopened.
large flask filled with boiling water for coffee etc
All standby devices inc oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave, alexas,tv’s etc - you’ll be amazed how much you have on standby !
Have bought more games second hand off ebay to play and cards , dobble, kerplunk, jenga, cluedo kids will love this
Pre cooked casseroles for easy reheating ( for us on the wood stove but otherwise use microwave)
Working out other pre cook meals for simple reheating (make pancakes for savoury and sweet etc)
Candles (safe in a jar) - we will minimise any lights.
all battery packs charged up to keep things like iPads and radio going if need be.

We’re going to try like it’s a full power cut. Octopus trials suggested families really enjoyed ‘connecting’. Make it an ‘adventure’ with the kids.
Wish me luck !!

Threeboysandadog · 04/11/2022 15:33

Yes, I’m signed up. They have said they hope to give advance warning of the times the day before so I’m planning to do a slow cooker meal that day that will require minimal reheating or soup and sandwich type meals. I can’t switch off the internet as ds2 works from home but I won’t use the washing machine/dryer/dishwasher/oven so that’s bound to help.

Clutterbugsmum · 04/11/2022 16:17

Yes DH has, But we have solar panels and batteries so he will make sure the batteries are full and use them when needed, so we won't really effected.

They are normally charged overnight when we have cheaper electric

ouch321 · 04/11/2022 16:26

Did they (Octopus) email you to invite you?

I've received nothing.

Do you have to be on a smart meter or have to meet some other criteria?

NewBootsAndRanty · 04/11/2022 16:34

@ouch321

"Any Octopus customer with a connected electricity smart meter can sign up.

When we say ‘connected’, we mean we need to be getting regular half-hourly readings from your meter – specifically, we need to have received 80% of readings in the last 20 days."
^ from their FAQ

If they haven't emailed you yet (they didn't email me, I just registered when I heard about it) you just register at
octopus.energy/saving-sessions

Finally had a saving session invite! DS will have to avoid the computer for a while!

RewildingAmbridge · 14/11/2022 22:04

Me too tomorrow 5-6 , works out well actually we're out after work tomorrow, just got to remember to switch everything off and cancel the hot water boost

NewBootsAndRanty · 14/11/2022 22:06

Ooh! I haven't got a notification, but when i clicked on the saving sessions dashboard it showed me the info and the option to opt in.

Will see how it goes!

@ChristmasComing123 I've just downloaded the "Loop" app, and it's giving me proper gas and electric half hourly readings (I've still not got that sorted with Octopus' website or app), might be worth a try?

Reluctantadult · 14/11/2022 22:12

I'm in. Dinner in the slow cooker anyway, and TV will be off. Not sure what else I can do....

Passportpondery · 14/11/2022 22:18

Out slot is tomorrow 5-6pm.

We have a gas hob (bottled as we aren’t on mains gas here) so dinner plans changed from cssserole in the oven to spag Bol on the hob!

I’m wondering whether turning off the freezer for an hour would do any damage?

Gufo · 14/11/2022 22:28

I've got the 5-6 slot too. Bet I forget!

As long as you keep the door firmly shut, it should be ok.

Thank you for this thread OP.

I had the email about this end of October and signed up. The idea is that you get notification on the app or an email advising of session times.
I didn't get such an email but I just downloaded the app and signed up for tomorrow's session 5-6PM.
For those not using the app, log in to your online account and the option should be there hopefully.
