Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how long PIP are taking to make a decision? Just had my assessment there on the 12 of October.

Like Jane, I made my claim in August and had my assessment by telephone beginning of second week in October. Got text today. It's been a long wait but now I know I got award, it was worth making my claim.

Could I ask how long from posting ur claim form to having a text to say they had received it did it take as I only posted mine late Monday night x

It usually doesn't take too long for then to receive the form, maybe a week or so.

Give them a ring on Monday and they will tell you what you get for mobility and care. The letters take ages to come out in the post. If day you'll have your back money for next week. Buzzing for you.

I’ve got my assessment tomorrow <spreads out screenshots of completed claim form> and I just had a courtesy (lol) call checking I’m still on for tomorrow.

I asked the advisor how long it normally takes from assessment to decision and she told me 8 to 12 weeks. She also said that even if it awarded it may be in the form of aids, not money. That’s the first I’ve heard about the aids.

I have accepted that even if I do “pass” it won’t be paid before Christmas.

Fingers still crossed for everyone!

She's talking nonsense - PIP isn't awarded in the form of aids, it's a monetary payment to assist you in paying for your day-to-day living needs. Imagine if the government suddenly needed to provide us all with the aids we needed, we'd all be stuffed! My local physio department has run out of fischer grip left-handed walking sticks, and said they won't be getting a new supply in for at least a month.

Good luck with your assessment tomorrow, I hope you get an assessor who listens to you and is fair and honest when they write up their report.

Just to let everyone know I rang yesterday to find out my award. I'm getting lower care and full mobility. Back pay from August 15th to be paid on December 8th. It will be welcome in time for Xmas.

I'm very pleased for you, @caringcarer. I know how much time and effort, blood sweat & tears, goes into a successful PIP application.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 21/12/2022 08:17

Morning Pippers! I just got a text saying that I’ve been awarded Pip and I should get a letter in 2 weeks. No sign of any money yet and I don’t know what rates I’m getting but I can renew my Disabled railcard at least now (when the letter arrives).

Hope everyone else is ok.

Swizzel · 21/12/2022 11:40

So pleased for you @HoofWankingSpangleCunt, that's great news! I think you can ring and find out what you've been awarded without having to speak to anyone now.

I'm still waiting for my review, had another text from DWP saying they will be progressing my review as soon as they can. I'm guessing the backlog in my part of the country must be substantial, it's been six months since I sent my form back!

Whydidimarryhim · 22/12/2022 10:14

Hi hope you all know you can appeal if you get a refusal.

StarcourtMall · 23/12/2022 07:12

Does anyone know if there’s any leeway with the deadlines? I got my DDs review form on 8 December, even though it was dated 21 November. I returned it on 14 December. It said the deadline was 22 December or my DDs claim would be stopped. Now I’m worried that it wouldn’t have been received in time. I haven’t had a text or anything.

StarcourtMall · 23/12/2022 07:12

I mean leeway because of the postal strikes.

@StarcourtMall hiya. I would give them a ring to tell them that it's posted, what date you posted it to them and due to the strikes your not use if they will receive it by the deadline. But let them know it's definitely been posted to them.

StarcourtMall · 24/12/2022 07:58

I called them and they confirmed that it was received in time. They also said it’s possible I won’t hear the response for a year! I don’t really mind as I’m not expecting any changes.

Do you get benefit capped of you get PIP?

AutumnCrow · 31/12/2022 01:21

No, it's not means tested. However it can actually make you eligible for a few extra benefits, depending on your particular circumstances.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 31/12/2022 14:38

Just a quick update, I got a back payment on the 29th as my first Pip payment.. so it took about 4 months in total.

One thing the DWP won’t make you aware of is the disability premiums that are awarded if you get PIP AND a qualifying benefit like ESA. It is not automatic so
once your Pip has been awarded phone the DWP and make an application. In my case the amount of benefit I get nearly doubles as I qualify for the Severe Disability payment.

Happy New Year everyone, wishing you all health and happiness.

@Momma25 the faster the better lol as it can take a good few weeks for you to get the decision after the telephone assessment.

People should be aware that a severe disability premium would only be paid for Income related ESA and only for people in certain circumstances.

A couple of questions if you guys don't mind!

  1. I applied in 9 September and had a DWP video assessment on 9 December. I was told 6-8 weeks from then for a decision. Is anyone a similar time to me and has heard anything. I realise I'm only 5 weeks in but the wait is agony!
  1. I sent off my passport etc as requested. How long does it take to receive this back?

Thanks!
