Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how long PIP are taking to make a decision? Just had my assessment there on the 12 of October.

I got a decision text 8 days after my telephone assessment.

Back pay went into my bank 1 week after the text.

xxAmy · 29/01/2023 15:40

@Indr i had my assessment on the 16th, I got a text to say they got my written report so I requested a copy of that.
some people have had there’s pretty quick joy, but then some are still waiting 8-12 weeks after assessment. I’m still waiting, will keep you up dated 🤞🏻
good luck on your claim

Momma25 · 30/01/2023 08:22

I couldn’t believe how quickly mine was sorted out only took two weeks form when I had the text to say they had received the paperwork back to then have my phone call assessment then a week later I had another text saying I’ve been awarded then by the end of that same week I got my back pay so all in all I received my paperwork with the date of 11th November sent it back in December and last week Monday I got the text to say I’d been awarded

Janemcconnell18 · 30/01/2023 13:27

Good luck everyone who is still waiting on a decision

@xxAmy shouldn’t be long after you as my assessment was 18th is it worth asking for a report?

xxAmy · 31/01/2023 15:19

@Indr i thought it would be handy for me to help prepare for MR if one was needed but looking at the report I shouldn’t need one. That’s if DM goes with the same points. I’m not sure what my chances are of that 🤷🏻‍♀️

xxAmy · 02/02/2023 08:19

@Indr i have been awarded, got the text message this morning

deflatedbirthday · 02/02/2023 10:36

I have just called for an update and have been told my letter is in the post and I have been disallowed.

I am absolutely gutted. I have asked for a copy of the report.

@Janemcconnell18 thank you

I've fluctuated between angry and really upset this morning. I have 3 chronic conditions all diagnosed within the past two years. None will get better. All are progressively getting worse. I work because I have to. I have to support myself and my family. I feel this is used against people with chronic illness. If you can work, you're not that unwell. But it's a vicious cycle because whilst you work they won't help with a claim. With the cost of living as it is I have been working extra. PIP would allow me to work less but be no worse off. I wouldn't really benefit financially but it might ease the fatigue and pain I have every single day.

I intend to apply for an MR but right now I'm wondering if there's any point.

deflatedbirthday · 06/02/2023 12:19

Does anyone know how MR usually takes please?

Indr · 06/02/2023 16:01

@xxAmy i had a phone call this afternoon something about back pay in a monthly payment all in one or something and if that was ok? Not sure what she ment as I asked if a decision has been made and she sed no not yet she’s working on it today and to just wait for a letter

xxAmy · 06/02/2023 16:18

@Indr they wouldn’t ring you to ask about payments if your not awarded surly?
my back pay is due in tomorrow, I rang up to ask my award etc as I haven’t had my letter yet

Momma25 · 06/02/2023 19:46

I got my letter on Friday

They can take the same time as a normal claim so maybe 8 weeks or so. I know it doesn't seem like there is much point in doing a MR but soamy claims are over turned at this stage so I would definitely put in for it as soon as you get your letter.

It is not about your illness, it is about employment. PIP doesn't go well with employment and they stopped my pip a few years ago because of that even I have psychosis.

Now my situation got worse and took some sick leaves last year and i moved job so that i can work from home all the time. I read somewhere if you can buy train ticket to go to work everyday, you won't score anything for mobility and pretty much nothing for care. So i explained that my new employer allows me to work from home with reduced responsibility.

I submitted 9 Jan and still waiting for assessment / decision. I hope I get a good decision.

deflatedbirthday · 07/02/2023 10:40

@mizuno35

I'm sorry you've also been through this.

Its incredibly frustrating. It specifically states that being employment does not preclude you for being granted pip. How on earth do they expect people to survive without working and awaiting a pip decision? People push themselves to work beyond their mobility and pain to survive. It's depressing

PIP is nothing to do with whether you can work or not, it is awarded purely based on your difficulties in relation to the descriptors they look at. If you can negotiate your way to work adequately on a train by yourself then you are not going to score points on the "making a journey' mobility descriptor. If you have regular panic attacks on public transport, need someone else to help you get to work etc then you may score points.

Munches · 07/02/2023 10:45

I get PIP. Mine is for debilitating mental illness and I cannot work at all with it.
In total it took almost five months to when I received it.

They always say they allow work. but they have guideline to disallow pip if you work. because if you are well enough to work, you don't need help. I will see what happens later with my claim because I am allowed to work from home 100% and this is new for them.

They don't disallow it because you work, they just don't give points if you don't meet the descriptors. I have worked, in the past with people who go to work in a wheelchair and need a carer with them at work to help with toiletings and things and they got PIP obviously, but if you can get yourself to work, interact with people as part of your job, walk around your office without difficulty etc then yes you are likely not to qualify for PIP. If you need increased support at work, have to work in a job where you can't interact with others or find it difficult then you may qualify. It sounds like you've done right by explaining the reasons why you have to work from home.

Babyroobs · 07/02/2023 11:11

I think the issue of working and claiming PIP is difficult because people who work outside of the home and are able to get themselves to work and function in an environment are not likely to meet the descriptors. To be honest I have worked with a few people claiming PIP and wondered how they met the descriptors but obviously not my place to ask !

I hope the white paper due in march 2023 will make it easier to claim pip while working.

Do you have any more information about this white paper please?
