Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

I will stop.

The only place I wore one after last July was Waitrose as I didn't want the looks from other customers.

lucylucyapplejuicy · 17/01/2022 12:14

I don't wear one anyway

DynamiteFilledRadish · 17/01/2022 12:15

My GP would have insisted on you walking straight out again until the doctor was ready to see you

I would imagine that makes it very difficult for mask exempt people to see their doctor then.

elelel · 17/01/2022 12:16

@2X4B523P

I can’t wait to ditch the lanyard.

Why are you wearing one, if not to alert people to your hidden disability? Or does your disability leave once mask wearing stops?

sheeplikessleep · 17/01/2022 12:16

The irony is that masks protect others, not the wearer. So those who continue to wear masks are protecting those who don’t wear them.

Those who don’t wear them (indoors I’m talking about) are risking asymptomatic transmission to others (who may or may not be vulnerable, you just don’t know).

55Jumbo · 17/01/2022 12:16

Yes. I try to avoid mandatory mask settings, really looking forward to just wandering into indoor spaces without thinking about it.

Esspee · 17/01/2022 12:21

Selfish people like you are what is wrong with this country.

bluesky45 · 17/01/2022 12:25

I'll be stopping for most places, probably only carry on if I'm in a drs or similar. I stopped in shops, restaurants etc during the summer when they weren't required.
Absolutely cannot wait to get rid of them at nursery pick up. We aren't allowed inside anyway so we all stand socially distanced just because we don't chat, outside, wearing a mask, for 2 mins while we wait to pick up. Then a kid brings COVID into the nursery anyway and it spreads like wildfire round nursery. Currently isolating with my 4 and 2 yr olds because the 4 year old caught COVID from nursery. He's completely asymptomatic. So I'm not sure me wearing a mask at the gate is stopping the kids spreading covid round the classroom. It's not working to protect the nursery at all because that's not where it's spreading from.

Are we though?! 🤣

trygerrity · 17/01/2022 12:28

"Yes, I will stop wearing one as soon as there’s no legal requirement. Tbh it isn’t even the legal requirement that compels me to wear a mask, it’s the risk of being shouted at by strangers in the street. Quite happy to be considered a pleb - I despise masks and the evidence that they do much to help is extremely patchy."

Me too @littlepeas. Can't be arsed with the mask police giving themselves a hernia and huffing and puffing about people not wearing a mask.

The crappy disposable ones and the fancy fabric ones do feck all, it's all virtue signalling or a desperate effort to look like you're 'doing something' because of course we HAVE to be seen to be doing something don't we? 🤔..........

Spectre8 · 17/01/2022 12:28

As soon as its no longer mandatory to wear one, I'll be ditching mine. Assuming train companies will keep the rule though so obviously where places still require it I will.

I don't give two hoots if people think I'm selfish or rant about how I could still be asymptomatic and trasmistting it. If its not illegal I'm not doing anything wrong.

Majority of people who love to judge others for not wearing one aren't even wearing the proper ones anyway so I won't take no notice of them.

XenoBitch · 17/01/2022 12:31

I wear a lanyard that I made myself from fabric and ribbon. I use it to clip the mask exemption card to it. I wont need to wear it after the mask mandate is lifted.

Only one particular lanyard is about hidden disabilities.

gerrald · 17/01/2022 12:32

"Selfish people like you are what is wrong with this country"

If the disposable masks and how most of the population wear masks was effective you'd have a point, but they're not. So you don't.

Coffeeholix · 17/01/2022 12:33

I don’t like wearing a mask at all, but I’ll probably carry in wearing one for a while longer.

You don't need to wear it now.

Apologies for assuming you were referring to that lanyard.

Why don't people protect themselves with an FFP3 or N95 mask? This is a genuine ask. If I felt particularly vulnerable to Covid I would much prefer to take control by wearing a high grade mask than rely on other people and their (maybe not brilliant) face coverings.

I think 'selfish' might have already been covered, but thanks for your input Grin

I won't be wearing a mask when it's no longer mandatory, but I won't be throwing them away - who knows what waves and variants might be in the future?

2X4B523P · 17/01/2022 12:39

@elelel

My hidden disability is always there but over the years I’ve managed to, if you pardon the pun, mask it quite well. I wear the lanyard to avoid confrontation from busy bodies. Thanks for the concern though.

Grantanow · 17/01/2022 12:39

Depends on the guidance offered by Chris Witty when BJ lifts compulsory wearing.

bubblesbubbles11 · 17/01/2022 12:45

I have not read the whole thread and apologies if this is slightly off subject - but anyone have any thoughts on when the "work from home" advice will be lifted?

If you could condense that down into fewer words it would fit beautifully on a mug.
polkadotpixie · 17/01/2022 12:46

I won't wear one, same as I didn't last summer. I'm looking forward to the NHS dropping them too, they give me a headache wearing one all day at work
