Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

Cannot wait to stop wearing them tomorrow. Call me selfish but I now, at 34 have a scarred face due to 'maskne' that I didn't have before, and I have no desire to make it any worse.

HarrietteNightingale · 26/01/2022 10:08

Fair enough. I think, yes, there are strong feelings on this issue. I hate that it's a 'take a side' thing, really. More polarisation can't be a good thing, can it? I mean, I don't want to be one of those 'be kiiiiind' knobheads but i do wish there could be a bit more thoughtfulness sometimes.

No argument here.

* I can still be upset on behalf of people I love who feel absolutely thrown under the bus, though.* *@changingstages*

Who has been thrown under a bus?

Those who are CEV. In my case, I am thinking of a very specific person in my life who is a young child and remains unvaccinated and it's terrifying. So it's emotive.

One of my best friends lost her sister and she is feeling pretty horrible right now too, crippled by anxiety that someone else is going to go through her family's pain unnecessarily. It's left her feeling desperate and I am so sad for her.

I know people have suffered terribly for all kinds of reasons through the pandemic and lockdown and fuck knows I am not advocating a return to lockdown. But dropping this measure feels premature and politically motivated.

But after 2 years - the time has come that the vast and overwhelming population that is not CEV trumps.
I’d never even heard of CEV before covid so I wonder how the heck these people managed before, when there was still an enormous amount of contagious respiratory illnesss around!

Booksandwine80 · 26/01/2022 10:32

I will continue to wear one. It will be strongly advised in my workplace anyway. Quite how a mask makes you feel “sick and lightheaded” I have no idea Hmm

Well we do a manual job. So it DOES make you dizzy and lightheaded. Up and down, shifting 25kg bags of ballast around, etc even worse in a hot store, heating on or in summer, no ventilation as well

Getting really out of breath, my team struggle! Not one of them will be in masks tomorrow

Booksandwine80 · 26/01/2022 10:42

@GirlInACountrySong

Spare a thought for the medical staff still wearing full PPE. FFS Angry

Yeah must be hard for them up and down ladders holding bags of cement sweating and out of breath.

I sympathise

Booksandwine80 · 26/01/2022 10:45

Grin yeah because that’s the same thing isn’t it?!

No.

GirlInACountrySong · 26/01/2022 10:50

It's a different kind of difficult but that scenario makes them difficult and dangerous!

They can legally be ditched,so that's that! Silly little comments won't make an iota of difference love!

Booksandwine80 · 26/01/2022 10:52

Oh no, she called me “love” I’m so offended and outraged!

I take back all I said, all hail the voice of reason 🤣🤣🤣

Sportsnight · 26/01/2022 10:55

Well I won’t wear one if I don’t have to, but I wouldn’t burn them just yet. We’re bound to see them again in another wave.

JackieWeaversZoomAc · 26/01/2022 11:28

I wear them if I'm required to. Otherwise I won't be wearing one.

It was very difficult sometimes but we weren't in a pandemic situation so that has brought some unique challenges with it.

Parker231 · 26/01/2022 12:51

A couple of our local shops have signs up that mask wearing will still be required. They did the same when mask wearing was dropped. It had no affect on their business and numbers of customers.

Whitefire · 26/01/2022 12:56

Sainsbury's are requesting that they are still worn in store. I'm not sure they can insist on it though.

southeastdweller · 26/01/2022 12:57

Sainsbury's have said today they expect people to wear masks in their stores. I'll be going in mask-free on Friday, anyway - it's not like anyone's going to challenge me.

mandajmo · 26/01/2022 13:09

I will keep wearing mine.

Where did they say that?

They said this after 19th July as well. I had no issues shopping maskless.

Thank you- so it's the same as last time. Most supermarkets said 'continue to wear one if you can'. Voluntary compliance round here started off very high, and then completely tailed off so I expect the same will happen again. If it's not the law, I will not be complying.

GirlInACountrySong · 26/01/2022 13:22

its not the law,the only challenge in store will be from other customers, not staff

i will still wear mine because there are so many people going off sick with covid right now, we are on a skeleton staff as it is. I don't want to, but i will for now

i cant enforce rest of our staff though

Monsterathai · 26/01/2022 13:24

I went to Aldi this morning, and the only people not wearing masks were x3 staff members Grin
