Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

@southeastdweller

You’re speaking to a hardcore lockdown poster she will have her fingers in her ears screaming that we’re now moving into the endemic stage. It’s quite sad actually how some people refuse to move on.

VikingOnTheFridge · 21/01/2022 09:42

@HariboMaroon

They’ll be ditched by the majority just like last time 🙌.
It's already happening, and was even before the announcement that they were going. I'm not particularly concerned by this given the lack of evidence that Plan B was actually doing anything much.

I know. On another thread someone else said earlier today ‘we’re in the middle of a pandemic’ Confused

VikingOnTheFridge · 21/01/2022 09:57

I think that's the same poster.

Wizzbangfizz · 21/01/2022 10:08

Me too @VikingOnTheFridge far more so than finding tests so paranoid people can do several a day.

Wizzbangfizz · 21/01/2022 10:08

Funding not finding ffs

Aimeehedge · 21/01/2022 10:11

“ Did you know that recently case numbers have been decreasing, as have hospitalisations and deaths?”

Cases fell yes. Partially because confirmatory pcrs we’re not longer required. They’re now plateauing at around 100,000 a day. No longer falling.

Hospitalisation were rising sharply and the last couple of days show a trend of mostly plateauing. More time is needed to see which way they go.

Denial is a sign of paranoia
Aimeehedge · 21/01/2022 10:18

@Wizzbangfizz

Vulnerable people were present before the pandemic - this virus is similar to many other respiratory diseases which could be fatal to tje CEV - did you wear a mask religiously before? The answer to that is no.
Yes I did. I lived in Southeast Asia for two years in the noughties and learned how protective they were.

It’s not some kind of gotcha to people who didn’t use them before.

Did people in Hugh crime areas have cctv doorbells in the 80s? Of course not.

Wizzbangfizz · 21/01/2022 10:20

Lol who is in denial? I've had 3 jabs, had covid, done all that has been required (bar unnecessary testing). Refusing to accept restrictions forever is not denial.

kickupafuss · 21/01/2022 10:22

I think most people will stop wearing them but I will carry on because I work with CEV people.

SueSaid · 21/01/2022 10:47

'Good news, you've decided not to ditch them after all'

Well tbf I can't think of any crowded indoor areas without ventilation where I can't SD that I'll be going to, everywhere has windows open nowadays don't they. It's good news!!

lol

not a lockdown poster

at all

just scientifically trained

Would one of you like to explain to me how deaths have been decreasing in the past week? as I would be all ears

(The death rate has come down since the start of the pandemic thank goodness, but the number of deaths is currently rising because of the number of cases we have had in the past month, with 3 or 4 million people infected at any one time last week and the week before. Cases still continue extremely high, by the way)

We are still in the middle of a high wave of cases in a pandemic. It would be great if it were over, but it isn't, yet.

femfemlicious · 21/01/2022 15:13

I think ill wear them forever in crowded places. I havent had cold or flu once during the pandemic. I usually get flu several times in the winter

None of that pertains to what I posted, I wonder if perhaps you meant to quote someone else.

herecomesthsun · 21/01/2022 15:29

It pertains to the discussion about whether we are still in the middle of a pandemic.

Yep, which I have offered no opinion on.
herecomesthsun · 21/01/2022 15:35

to which you alluded though?

No. I said I thought you were the poster being referred to, which I do.

Short of a treatment that’s so good it can bring the dead back to life, that is never not going to be the case though?

herecomesthsun · 21/01/2022 17:55

The UK rolling 7 day average of deaths stands at 266, up from 131 on 1st Jan.

So deaths look as if they are rising or (hopefully) plateauing, but not falling (though that would be great).

Well seeing as masks in morning make me want to throw up, my glasses steam up, my ears hurt, not wearing one this morning was nice, and yes I know I'm early but hey.

Yes but those deaths will likely be from late December infections when rates were higher. We've known for ages that the timespan from infection to death is about 3 weeks.
