Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

Imm exempt but wear a shield. I’ll probably continue

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 18:14

I’m not an arsehe so I will continue to wear them in public places where other people don’t have choices like shops and public transport. Our government is a joke.

So you are calling people arseholes even though they have worn them in past. Its kind of a joke to call people names like that, what's that make you?.

toomuchlaundry · 19/01/2022 18:16

@Comedycook funnily enough advice changes as scientists learn more about a new virus, hence the advice changing about masks working. Didn't have vaccines at the beginning of the pandemic either, should we not have bothered with them etiher

Monsterathai · 19/01/2022 18:16

@Whammyyammy

Next week..... how many joining me in this
Absolutely Grin
Keladrythesaviour · 19/01/2022 18:17

Ill stop wearing mine as soon as we don't have to, but will put one on for any shop or venue that requests it. I don't enjoy wearing it, I have an auditory processing disorder that means I find it incredibly hard to work out what people are saying when I can't see their lips move, and I hate fogging up my glasses/generally seem to be a total klutz whilst wearing one. Can't wait to see the back of them again...but I'm not so against it I'll make other people uncomfortable to make a point.

The problem when discussing covid is that somebody says something like ‘I recently lost a treasured friend/family member due to covid’ and shuts down conversation, because if you argue with that it makes you look like an arsehole.

But - here goes my Katie Hopkins moment - the deaths we have seen (mainly in the unvaccinated and very elderly) do not justify the restrictions that have been implemented, particularly on children and young people.

And while I sympathise with any person bereaved due to covid, their loss is not a reason to impose yet further restrictions on the entire country.

Neither are the feelings of people with health anxiety or the clinically vulnerable.

I would only favour further restrictions if covid began to seriously affect children and young people.

frazzledali · 19/01/2022 18:20

silly wee children. Gather round your bonfire. Laugh and fucking dance as you think of all the people dead and seriously affected. Wooo! You're all so cool and big.

So prior to covid no one knew how masks worked Hmm

vickyc90 · 19/01/2022 18:22

@Wizzbangfizz

Looks like even better news to come from the press conference - especially over ending free testing
Along with potentially self isolation in march 🎉 think I won't be wearing a mask from now. No point in waiting until Thursday will only add to my sinus pain and spotty chin!

@frazzledali yes in rare and unfortunate cases that does happen. But implementing restrictions on the entire country is a disproportionate response, although I appreciate it won’t seem that way to you.

southeastdweller · 19/01/2022 18:27

Lots of anger at the people who won't be bothering with wearing useless masks but what's the point getting irate at something you can't control? Not even the police can do anything so surely it's a waste of your energy and life to be angry at people like me?

Monsterathai · 19/01/2022 18:27

Honestly, there's a lot of 'arseholes' and 'dickheads' etc thrown around in this debate and it unilaterally seems to come from one side. I don't think people who choose to wear a mask are arseholes or anything at all really (I don't care what you do!), but I believe in choice... the levels of judginess and authoritarianism are quite something to behold!

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 18:27

You don't just look like an arsehole, let's be really clear about that. You really are one.

And here we are calling people names, grow up, not everyone will agree with you but calling people arseholes is pathetic, especially as they have given a reasoned response.

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 18:30

Yep it's as if they forgot about MERS and SARS, people pretend like they didn't know much when they knew how previous coronavirus have spread.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 19/01/2022 18:37

I'll still wear one in crowded places and on planes.

grossnessewwww · 19/01/2022 18:38

I will wear one in busy places out of respect to vulnerable people.

I'm fit, healthy, triple jabbed, had Covid - it was a non event. Not worried about getting it myself.

I'm sick of people mocking me for wearing one.

I feel really sorry for the CEV today.

nordica · 19/01/2022 18:38

Fortunately TfL will still require masks on the tube and London busses as a condition of carriage. I guess some of you will be walking instead as you're so against masks...

Whammyyammy · 19/01/2022 18:40

Call me an arse, arsehole, dick head, selfish twat... I really don't care, I'm not 6 and offended by name calling.
Come next Thursday I won't be wearing a silly useless mask, because I don't like them and won't have too.
Got a problem with that? tough, i couldn't give a rats arse

Perhaps not all of us live anywhere near London 🙄

Amen to that!
BellatricksStrange · 19/01/2022 18:41

Is anyone even waiting till then? Most sensible people realise just how bloody useless masks are.

They can require it all they like, I will not be complying.

Most people on the tubes do not comply with this already
