Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

Is anyone else planning to ditch the masks asap? The only reason I wear one atm is because of the legal mandate and it will go as soon as that's dropped.

If you are staunchly pro-mask then this is probably not the thread for you! I know all the arguments on both side and they have been fully rehearsed on this board for the last 2 years. I am simply interested to gauge how many people also want to ditch masks asap, when the law allows.

It would be fab if we could have a thread on this topic that didn't include the words- selfish, it's no hardship, why wouldn't you?, we're in a pandemic ffs, I wear my mask to protect others etc.... that's lovely, and we already know!

Yes, but the only bit that really matters to me - the tube - we are under the thumb of Khan and his not likely to remove the requirement to wear them even when they go in shops and other trains a week on Thursday. I hope he will but am not holding my breath (not that I can breath, think or see properly in a mask anyway)

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 18:58

My local mayor last year when you didn't have to wear masks introduced wearing them in bus stations as it was only power he had, no one took any notice, same as people shouldn't take notice of Khan.

Againstmachine · 19/01/2022 18:59

Fortunately TfL will still require masks on the tube and London busses as a condition of carriage. I guess some of you will be walking instead as you're so against masks...

Thankfully majority of the country don't use TFL.

@Whitefire

I'm sick of people mocking me for wearing one

Who's mocking you and where?

People I am acquainted with who think they know more than the WHO.

Just looked out of interest what happened with cases around the time they were no longer mandatory last July…

Who is planning to ditch masks as soon as we are legally allowed?

I don't think people who choose to wear a mask are arseholes or anything at all really

@Monsterathai mo people just call them hysterical mask wearing loons who clearly have mental health problems and can't assess risk.
Remember Lockdown Lovers for anyone who saw restrictions as a necessary evil. Lock up the vulnerable and let us young slim normal people crack on. Why should my child miss football to proctect some old dear in a nappy?
Why not give all the ECV jobs away to those in hospitality.
Just a few of the gems I remember at the top of my head.
Clearly there is a minority of arseholes both sides of the debate.

Lifeisnteasy · 19/01/2022 19:07

I don’t believe the young should have to forfeit years of their lives to protect the very elderly, no. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Joesmummy1 · 19/01/2022 19:07

All self isolation will stop in March. Free LFTs will go soon

Thank goodness. Freedom

Seeing as the WHO have flipfloped all through this and were pathetic at beginning of this with the way they dealt with China, nah WHO aren't that great.

wineandchocolateforthewin · 19/01/2022 19:11

Me, I'm asthmatic and they make it a bit harder to breathe, i put up with it while it's mandatory as i don't feel it's bad enough for me to get an exemption. Plus i can't be bothered dealing with any potential attitude from others when in the shops

Northsoutheastwest76 · 19/01/2022 19:11

Agree restrictions were hard fior kids especially. Dd missed out on lots of opportunities but she has hardly forfeited years of her life. Plus many of the restrictions were to keep the NHS going and the toughest restriction was shielding and that included ECV children.

Whitefire · 19/01/2022 19:19

gross well they are dicks then.

This has perhaps been one of the worst things about the pandemic, not so much that people are judging (we all do that) but that they feel free to voice them so freely. (Though that has probably been in the making since Brexit)

Have they?

userxx · 19/01/2022 19:22

Absolutely not a chance I'll be wearing them. I'm ridiculously happy with the news and am planning a big shopping trip.

Unless you have an exemption which will magically increase from Thursday
reallyisthisallthereis · 19/01/2022 19:23

Depends on where. Buses, trains, not very well ventilated places, I will probably will continue. Well ventilated places, probably not. Just using a bit of common sense

DynamiteFilledRadish · 19/01/2022 19:23

@frazzledali

silly wee children. Gather round your bonfire. Laugh and fucking dance as you think of all the people dead and seriously affected. Wooo! You're all so cool and big.
Will you be bringing anything to toast or does your misguided sense of superiority keep you warm?
Meadowblossom · 19/01/2022 19:24

No I like them. It keeps me and others safe. It keeps me warm. It gives me privacy.

Conspiracyornotr · 19/01/2022 19:26

I have been wearing them all through since started and in work I hate them sweating for 8 hours not nice and see others just not doing it . Sod that I can't wait to be mask free

I’ve never put a mask on the tube. You need to get out more.

What years of life have young people forfeited? It is the elderly that are dying not the young. Do you think elderly lives are not worth preserving? Honestly this attitude makes me sick.
Cheekypeach · 19/01/2022 19:32

@Meadowblossom ummmm let me think
Months sat inside not allowed to go anywhere or see anybody
Lost education
Lost time with relatives
Lost time with friends
Lost special events such as leaver’s proms, milestone birthdays
Abused children slipping through the net thanks to restrictions
The fact young people will be paying for this for many years to come
I could go on and on

7Worfs · 19/01/2022 19:33

Go be sick then, Blossom.
The young did not deserve this shit.
Not to mention the ones who lost their lives to unstable step parents because the system lost sight of them.

GirlInACountrySong · 19/01/2022 19:33

I'm surprised at the amount of mumsnetters ditching their masks!!

I thought many many more would still be clutching them!!
