MIL lied about having Covid now my anxiety is through the roof!

This is not a MIL bashing thread as I genuinely do love her but right now I am beyond angry with her.

MIL despite being in her late 70s hasn't really taken covid seriously.
Think still meeting up with her friends during the first 2 lock downs (her friends have the same mindset) going on holiday at every opportunity both UK and abroad.
In a way I kind of understood her point but DH and I made it clear we would not see her until she has done LFTs as I am CV. She agreed so we have met up and see her at least once a month.

This week she is moving house so we of course offered to help. She mentioned on Thursday that her friend who visited the previous weekend has tested positive for Covid. DH told her she must do a LFT as she was having a removal company in yesterday and DH helping too. She called back later to say it was negative.

So Friday DH spent all day there helping her move and I was due to go over with him today to help sort things out. Anyway at 10pm she calls DH and said "oh I have just done a LFT and it's positive, so just you come tomorrow and not Crispy".

DH is fuming he believes she actually tested positive Thursday but lied due to the move. I am also angry but more anxious. I have so far avoided covid, I am very careful and now because she is selfish I will most likely get it.
I am trying to tell myself I am triple jabbed and I will be ok but since losing my father to cancer recently at 68 and exdh being diagnosed with heart disease at 51 all with 3 months I have developed huge anxiety around my health.

I barely slept last night and all I can think about is if I catch it I will probably die and leave my poor children with no mother. I know this isn't rational but at the same time I cannot stop the thoughts.

Anyone else with severe asthma caught Covid and been fine?

So sorry for the long ramble Blush

I’ve got asthma and just had Covid, all signs there that it was omicron. My symptoms haven’t been any different than dp, who doesn’t have asthma. It is very much an very high upper respiratory tract illness -runny nose sinus, ears, and sore throat. No mucus on the lungs etc. I did double up my inhalers just as I would do when I have a normal seasonal cough/cold.

Blubells · 08/01/2022 10:08

This sounds reasonable to me. Why assume she's lying, op?

Bluntness100 · 08/01/2022 10:08

Oh I’ve just reread, it’s Asthma? Then you’re fine. Gosh what away for you both to treat this poor woman. She’s knocking on eighty for gods sake.

SergeiL · 08/01/2022 10:09

Christ alive, people are being disgusting on this thread.

OP - sorry to hear about the loss of your father. And also for your ex being diagnosed so young. It is little wonder you are feeling anxious, with you also being CV.

I am also CV and have been very careful for 18 months. However, I caught COVID over Christmas just gone. I was double vaxed and recently boosted and managed to hold out for a while before testing positive following the rest of my household. I was anxious due to having complex heart and lung conditions along with a clotting disorder. I had no cough, temperature or loss of taste. I sneezed for a few days and lost my smell. The main symptom was (and still is to an extent) fatigue. But I never had to take to my bed and still managed to mainly function over Christmas. Fingers crossed you will be just fine.

MargaretThursday · 08/01/2022 10:10

Why do you assume she's lying?

If she was going to lie, surely she wouldn't have told you about the positive one at all.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/01/2022 10:12

FWIW, OP, my triple jabbed Dbro is considered CEV because of asthma, but he managed to catch COVID (presumably the Omicron variant) over Christmas and was/still is, completely asymptomatic.

toomuchlaundry · 08/01/2022 10:12

Why is she expecting your DH to go over when she has tested positive?

dcadmam · 08/01/2022 10:13

I have asthma so bad I was on the shielding list. I got Covid just before I was due my booster. My doctor immediately prescribed steroids and antibiotics before I showed any symptoms. I believe this stopped it settling in chest. I was very very tired but fine. So if the worst does happen get medicine immediately. Try not to worry xx

hamstersarse · 08/01/2022 10:13

I can’t believe people are living with such irrational fear. Still.

The irony is is that your mil is more at risk, age is the single biggest risk factor yet not one iota of concern about her

ChipButtyCurrySauce · 08/01/2022 10:14

I have asthma, currently half way through isolation with a positive PCR and I'm fine. Worst symptom I had was night sweats.

Summersdreaming · 08/01/2022 10:15

Hopefully MIL has omicron, I don't know anybody who has had more than a slight cold with omicron. I think you're worrying unnecessarily.

Pinkflipflop85 · 08/01/2022 10:16

You have no evidence that she lied.

I tested before work one day and was negative. I tested again in the evening because I felt so rough and it was instantly positive.

WalkingOnSonshine · 08/01/2022 10:17

DH’s 92 year old grandmother, who has had part of her lung removed & has respiratory issues, had Omicron & breezed through it.

She was ringing us telling us how bored she was on the second day. For her, it was milder than a cold.

worriedatthemoment · 08/01/2022 10:17

I know several who tested negative on lft in morning and positive later that day

Delatron · 08/01/2022 10:17

Have they updated the CEV list? They really should to stop all this fear and anxiety. If asthma isn’t a vulnerable condition any more as I understand it isn’t then this should be communicated.

OldWivesTale · 08/01/2022 10:18

My 93 year old grandma who has lung disease and is in a care home caught it before she'd been jabbed at all and it was just like a cold. You need to calm down. The chances are that you've already had it or you will get it at some point. We all will. The lockdowns are to slow the spread not prevent us from getting it at all.

Baconking · 08/01/2022 10:19

@Unsure33

I think you are wrong in assuming she lied. Sometimes if viral load is low it might take two or three tests to show up. How is she feeling?

My brother in law has COPD. We were convinced that if he got covid he would be in serious trouble . He was fine. He felt tired but nothing much else.

Nailsbythesea · 08/01/2022 10:20

I’d be livid. A positive lfd means she needs to
Isolate that means no visitors and no one popping over today etc she needs to isolate and get a PCR and wait the result, a positive lfd does not mean carry on as normal

BooksAndGin · 08/01/2022 10:20

I have multiple auto immune and chronic illnesses, including asthma were I'm on strong inhalers. Only had one jab.

Caught omicron and was completely fine. Don't panic, it's no worse than a cold.

TheKeatingFive · 08/01/2022 10:20

Firstly I don't understand why you think she lied about the first LFT. Why would she then own up about the second?

Secondly, the PP is right, she's at much more risk than you due to age.

You're triple jabbed, and there's excellent evidence that this protects you from severe disease. Your chances of dying are absolutely minimal, you're probably more at risk crossing the road at this stage.

I just don't think avoiding covid is a realistic goal for most people at this stage.

SergeiL · 08/01/2022 10:20

Can everyone just stop with the irrational crap.

There is a reason why CEV and CV people were vaccinated and boosted relatively early on in the process. It is not completely irrational to be worried.

Bluntness100 · 08/01/2022 10:21

I actually think it’s so very sad that this is ripping some families apart, that a small minority of people are still living with such irrational fear it turns them abusive, because it is abusive to be fuming with this elderly lady and accuse her of being a liar. It’s awful. If anyone is at risk from this it’s the elderly mother and she’s being faced with this because of the op and her husbands mental health.

sofakingcool · 08/01/2022 10:21

I'm asthmatic and my BMI is high too. We all got Covid and DS (also asthmatic) and I were the only ones who didn't get anything respiratory related - no cough, tight chest or anything! DH was coughing like a trouper.

Asthma nurse rang me a couple of weeks later to check up on me, and she said there had been interest over actually whether Asthma protects lungs from Covid for some weird reason. I had a feeling I'd heard that before too.

Hope you're ok OP x

AngelinaFibres · 08/01/2022 10:22

My hairdresser caught covid. I spent an hour and a half having a cut and colour before she knew she had it. No masks, confined space. I was totally convinced I would get it . I didn't and neither did the 4 other clients she had seen. She was triple jabbed and so were of us. Not a sniffle, not a thing.
