…I remember earlier in the pandemic where delayed days were ones where numbers were enormous.

250,000? What do we think? I’ve got a real feeling of doom

It will be the death data that they're preparing statements for. It will likely be high due to the fact that some of the data from nations other than England haven't been reported since pre-Xmas, can't remember if it's all nations or just 1 that's been missing for the last couple of days.

Theimpossiblegirl · 30/12/2021 16:24

The data won't be accurate because of the sheer number of people unable to test locally and delays in postal tests.
I don't think it's looking good, despite most cases being mild.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 30/12/2021 16:24

It's a Christmas delay. It has been explained in a few .gov type sites as such.

Don't borrow trouble.

ilovesooty · 30/12/2021 16:26

I expect it takes a long time collate them during the holiday period.

What kind of "doom" are you referring to? I doubt very much that our useless PM actually going to do anything. Nothing will change much and the case figures will be meaningless soon anyway given the shortage of tests.

JanglyBeads · 30/12/2021 16:26

Look at Twitter and what the lead guy has tweeted - @pouriaa.

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2021 16:27

They’re probably just short staffed over Christmas.

ohfourfoxache · 30/12/2021 16:27

None of it is going to be accurate anyway

Between delays, lack of tests and first infections counted only I’m beginning to wonder why they bother - the figures say what the govt want them to say, and it’s not necessarily the true picture

CovidCorvid · 30/12/2021 16:28

Who’s the lead guy?
CovidCorvid · 30/12/2021 16:28

Oh sorry, is that his handle, off for a look.?

Againstmachine · 30/12/2021 16:28

Theres so many delays due to Christmas
bank holidays, less staff ect and when tests are processed.

Stop panicking.

CovidCorvid · 30/12/2021 16:32

So looks like a computer issue. Found a tweet which raised an interesting point, previously the stats only counted first infections, not reinfections. With so many getting it for the second time now are they being counted in the numbers yet? If not the actual figures could be much higher.

Youngatheart00 · 30/12/2021 16:37

I’m not panicking….just an underlying sense of this is where the music stops, lockdowns etc when mental health is only just improved after the last one.

Thanks for the link to the tweet. Could well be an IT issue as others have pointed out there has been very lumpy data reporting over the festive period.

And in due course I guess numbers are going to come down due to the lack of availability of tests!

OP posts:
BeOne · 30/12/2021 16:39

Whatever the numbers are they're likely to be hugely under actual infections. Its been nigh on impossible for the past two days to get either postal tests or walk in / drive through ones and I suspect many people who need to test have been unable to do so.

CovidCorvid · 30/12/2021 16:39

Just seen today’s USA figures! 489,000!

Youngatheart00 · 30/12/2021 16:43

@CovidCorvid gosh 🥺

Can’t help thinking back to this time last year where we were all going into lockdown but it did feel like vaccines were the fix-all. How things have changed!

OP posts:
ohfourfoxache · 30/12/2021 16:44

489k??

Holy fuckballs Sad

JanglyBeads · 30/12/2021 16:45

Wales counts reinfections, England doesn't but will from sometime in Jan. Yes it could be 10-17% more. Sorry can't do Twitter link now but yes Pouriaa is the data lead guy

TinyLittlePandaSneeze · 30/12/2021 16:47

Maybe they are just double checking?

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2021 16:53

If we’re sharing bonkers stats, ireland had nearly 50% test positivity reported today. Absolutely insane.

Eek!
KCee30 · 30/12/2021 17:03

It's quite often delayed.

No one can get pcr tests at the minute so I'm not sure where the numbers are coming from over the last few days 🤦‍♀️

Againstmachine · 30/12/2021 17:06

It's quite often delayed.

I like at the stats daily and you are correct as said don't panic.

jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey · 30/12/2021 17:09

Numerous bank holidays
Staff off
It's just a delay.

Whitefire · 30/12/2021 17:09

They are trying to find more fingers to count on.

BarbaraofSeville · 30/12/2021 17:12

I wonder when they're going to catch up with hospitalisation figures, especially as that's probably the most important stat?

Gov.uk says the most recent figure is from 21st December.
