…I remember earlier in the pandemic where delayed days were ones where numbers were enormous.

250,000? What do we think? I’ve got a real feeling of doom

They keep pushing it back. Now 20:30.

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2021 20:00

There’ll be a rail replacement Covid-19 numbers service announced shortly.

BambinaJAS · 30/12/2021 20:01

@SecretKeeper1

It’s the hospitalisation and ventilator numbers I’m interested in - they haven’t been updated since 22nd. At that point there were 8246 patients in hospital with covid* of which 842 were on ventilators.

(* these people might be in hospital because of a non-covid illness or accident. Still, it’s the best comparable indication we’ve got of how things are going right now)

News is not good.

2,000 more. Higher than central estimate currently.

We are seeing infections start to bleed through from the 20-50 age cohort to the 60+ age cohort as well. That means more hospitalisations in the next week or so as well.

@kittensinthekitchen

I love that PCR testing centres were kept open even on Christmas day, yet the people that put numbers into a calculator and the person that then copies that number onto a database and hits 'upload' were given time off because "Christmas".
Hmm It's far more complex than this. Please take a look at some of the Twitter threads from @Pouriaa (that's his Twitter handle) or @statsgeekclare, they are the two people who have led the dashboard project. It's worth understanding what a massive task it is to integrate data from many dozens of disparate sources outwith your control.

8 30PM. Think deaths are the issue.

I’m wondering how many of the 30 9/10 year olds in my class will be back at school next week. Anyone want to hazard a guess?! I feel like taking bids!

All of them but at least half will have coughs.
BoodleBug51 · 30/12/2021 20:12

72 in hospital "with" Covid in our county, and none needing ventilators.

I have personally found the increased speed of Omicron quite a shift, I had got quite used to Delta I think. Weird.

I would prefer it if there was any sense that the government were there?

They will all be back....coughing their heads off....there’s been no lfts or pcrs available....people have given up with testing

My sister has just finished her shift in children's A&E and she was shocked by how many kids with covid they have seen today - every child who came in feeling unwell was swabbed and found they had covid. Schools next week are going to be very interesting 😬

Two positive tests in our house today. Still waiting for three more. Have heard of a few people that aren’t even bothering to follow up positive LFTs with a PCR - they’re just isolating regardless.

I heard someone on the radio earlier saying that if you have cold symptoms right now then there’s a 50% to 75% chance you have Omicron. The infection numbers will be an underestimate whatever they are.

MumbleCrumbs · 30/12/2021 20:25

I can't believe we're expected to send our children in to school next week knowing full well there are no real mitigations against this variant with both South Africa and New York seeing a rise of child admissions. I just can't believe it. We shouldn't have to make a choice to accept this or home school. It's a disgrace.

Fritilleries · 30/12/2021 20:26

Sure thing. There's always someone who works in a hospital with insight.

I know a couple of families like that. Half of them had positive PCRs. When the rest got positive LFT, they didn't bother following up with PCR 🤦‍♀️

103 in my city and 11 on ventilators. Given that ventilation is very much a last ditch effort that seems pretty bad to me. How many people on ventilators is the magic number to make Covid a bad thing? According to yesterdays data there are 842 people on ventilators across the U.K. with Covid.
PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2021 20:32
