…I remember earlier in the pandemic where delayed days were ones where numbers were enormous.

250,000? What do we think? I’ve got a real feeling of doom

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo there were 4K people last January / February in the ventilator

Bordois · 30/12/2021 20:33

Better than what I was expecting tbh!

It’s up now and not as horrendous as some predicting
Deaths for England apparently are for 5 days I think so not bad Today’s death figures include a backlog of hospital deaths reported overnight by NHS England covering the period 24th – 29th December.

And 2 days of wales cases

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/12/2021 20:34

332 deaths

Tabbacus · 30/12/2021 20:34

My sister has just finished her shift in children's A&E and she was shocked by how many kids with covid they have seen today - every child who came in feeling unwell was swabbed and found they had covid. Schools next week are going to be very interesting

Every child who presented in A&E? Well that's good isn't it, suggests that as there's no way every single child was there for covid related symptoms, that many had it and were asymptomatic, good news :)

BorsetshireBanality · 30/12/2021 20:36

How many cases?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 30/12/2021 20:36

it is meant to peak mid january, same as 2021 surely?

2022success · 30/12/2021 20:37

So what's the number - I can only see yesterdays...

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2021 20:37

About 190,000

EasterIssland · 30/12/2021 20:37

How many cases?
189k cases which includes 2 days for wales
Marmite27 · 30/12/2021 20:37

My side of the family all have cold.

We’ve all been ltf-ed (different batches over 5 households) and PCR-ed. All negative.

We only met as a group today and it came up in conversation, we all live in different areas in Yorkshire.

Wakefield
Leeds
Barnsley
Huddersfield
Cleckheaton

A random assortment of 2x 65-70 adults, 8x 30-45 adults and 2x primary kids, 2x preschool kids and 2x toddlers. You’d think someone out of the 17 of us would have been positive.

Step away from the stats, live your lives with as much mitigation as you need, but stop obsessing over the numbers, it’s not healthy!

CovidCorvid · 30/12/2021 20:38

Seems like a big increase in hospital admissions?

Marmite27 · 30/12/2021 20:38

16 people, not 17.

Summersdreaming · 30/12/2021 20:39

@BasicCarnage why the 🤦‍♀️? I've done exactly the same - positive lft, no pcr - it's my second infection so the govt won't even count it so why bother?

HotPenguin · 30/12/2021 20:39

The data on hospital admissions doesn't seem to have been updated.

Northsoutheastwest76 · 30/12/2021 20:41

Cases similar to previous figures. Deaths very high as expected as we had some under resorting over Christmas. .
Think we need a few days to get a truer picture.

Itisasecret · 30/12/2021 20:41

189k cases and hospitalisations clearly rising. How anyone can say it’s not that bad is beyond me. It is, have you needed an ambulance lately? A small amount of admissions for a large number of cases is still a bother. I do worry for the state of the NHS for everyone who doesn’t actually have Covid.

Blackopal · 30/12/2021 20:42

Interesting people on this thread and others mentioning lack of LF tests.
I ordered one pack a few days ago with no problems. This arrived yesterday and then today two more packs that I hadn't ordered also arrived!

I managed to order some earlier today, I think demand is outstripping supply but they filter through occasionally.
BambinaJAS · 30/12/2021 20:46

The real concern is the positivity rate while case counts keep rising (using 7-day moving average as data can be lumpy).

This has been creeping up over the last week: From 6% UK wide to closer to 6-9%. Scotland, Wales, and NI are specially bad (15-20%). This means we are not able to keep up with the infections with our existing testing infrastructure.

This indicates that the reported daily cases (221k and 190k) are a poor representation of the "true" daily cases happening in the UK (about 250k to 350k or so at present).

Lucky you. The difficulty most people are having has been widely reported. There are none available now.
Blackopal · 30/12/2021 20:50

I'm not showing off! Grin
I am wondering if there is a glitch in system making the shortage worse.
I ordered one pack and have ended up with three.
If that is happening to other people, supplies would dwindle very quickly.

bagofconkers · 30/12/2021 20:50

Availability of tests over time, for those in doubt:

russss.github.io/covidtracker/testing.html

Today's deaths look high, but comparing the current 7 day period to the previous 7 day period it's is actually a drop (701 reported between 24/12 and 30/12 vs 784 reported between 17/12 and 23/12).

Are you in England? If so you are very much in the minority, the lack of tests has been the top news story for days now.
