Daily figures delayed until 19:30…

…I remember earlier in the pandemic where delayed days were ones where numbers were enormous.

250,000? What do we think? I’ve got a real feeling of doom

48 hours ago I was trying & struggling to find an LFT test in USA -- I mention this because it was hard work to fine one. Some websites suggested nothing within 100 miles drive.

Tests have been very difficult to get in USA since mid December or earlier; the news is full of story about flights being cancelled due to staff having to isolate. If test-access-difficulty is a factor in case counts, it's a much bigger problem in USA than in UK.

In contrast, I easily got paid-for tests in UK. Both PCR & LFT widely available.

So still easier to get tests, especially free ones, in UK than in USA.

It genuinely feels like some people are actually salivating over the data

It genuinely feels like some people make up shit like this for some unknown reason.

justasking111 · 30/12/2021 22:18

@BoredZelda

In other news we’ve had no bin collections this week due to covid isolations so the street is a right mess - peoples rubbish has blown all over it

Isolations? Really? Just as likely to be because of illness.

Our council are saying due to covid isolations X, Y, Z services are disrupted. Our health board announced 500 staff isolating this week. We're quite upfront about the problems here. It's the same with hospitality. Businesses locally are letting us know when they've had to close.
kittensinthekitchen · 30/12/2021 22:34

@justasking111

Do you live somewhere where people have to isolate as a contact regardless of vaccine status?

Youngatheart00 · 30/12/2021 22:39

Slightly strange how the BBC are not reporting todays cases and developments at all?

They were on the news at ten.

Oh sorry, I meant the BBC website - all I see is Gislane Maxwell

Today drakeford announced a reduction to seven days isolation if LFT is negative. Contacts have to LFT daily before going out, we're even supposed to do it going to the supermarket.

Trouble is we can't get any LFT tests anywhere In N Wales so his plan is dead in the water

Wales Lent 4 million to England after telling us to flow and go every day, they're idiots

Dimondsareforever · 30/12/2021 22:59

189k reported today

Youngatheart00 · 30/12/2021 22:59

@PurpleDaisies I see that, but the detail is rather buried

Blankscreen · 30/12/2021 23:13

My sister and 4 of her family members have had positive LFTs

Not bothering with PCR tests. What's the point? Doesn't change their outcome

They've isolated and do what they need to do.

I suspect there are many many more people like that so 189k is no where near the real number

AliceA2021 · 30/12/2021 23:18

It will be very high. Massive amounts of mixing over the holidays so it's expected.

Cocoabutterformula · 30/12/2021 23:19

Blankscreen

That's why they need to record their result somewhere

musicalfrog · 30/12/2021 23:26

@Blankscreen I assume none of them will want to claim any loss of income payment for isolating then?

mumwon · 30/12/2021 23:57

I don't know about anyone else but I read international news papers & both USA & Australia are concerned about lack of tests - aka as far as I can see (maybe wrong!) most lateral flow come from China - so either they need them because of their outbreak or the pure number of international cases mean that the demand is outstripping resources - note the mention of at least 2 weeks before we get enough
Which is not helpful
DH has his first face to face cardiac appointment for over 2 years cancelled today (he was due it this afternoon the consultant rang late morning & did appointment by phone - obviously the danger of dh getting covid risk outweighed this - & frankly looking at the numbers we agree with him.
I can imagine how many times this is going to be repeated with more critical cases - our gp has taken good care of dh - I cannot praise her to much,

mumwon · 30/12/2021 23:58

I thought you were suppose to report results of lateral flow (according to the paperwork in the box)?

Blankscreen · 31/12/2021 00:50

No they don't need to claim support of any kind. Strange that you would mention that as a way of pouring doubt on what I am saying.

I for one haven't logged any LFT anywhere, ever.....

DixonD · 31/12/2021 01:13

You are.
halcyondays · 31/12/2021 01:21

Do many people still bother to report negative LFTs? We did once or twice but it seemed a pointless waste of time. Would report a positive but none of us ever had a positive even when we had Covid, confirmed by PCR.

I expect a lot of people don’t report positive LFTs.

The point is what you’ve alluded to in your last sentence. It doesn’t allow officials to know the true picture. If everyone did this we’d be able to say we were a covid free country and stop all restrictions…..which may not be very sensible.

Agreed. It makes it difficult to plan surge capacity if the numbers are so distorted.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 31/12/2021 10:41

@JanglyBeads

It is a good phrase. Derives from Jesus' teaching in the sermon on the Mount - "Sufficient unto the day are the troubles thereof" in the old version.

Modern translations have it as
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Thanks. I came back to explain but you beat me too it. Beautifully done, too 😃
