…I remember earlier in the pandemic where delayed days were ones where numbers were enormous.

250,000? What do we think? I’ve got a real feeling of doom

@kittensinthekitchen

I love that PCR testing centres were kept open even on Christmas day, yet the people that put numbers into a calculator and the person that then copies that number onto a database and hits 'upload' were given time off because "Christmas".
I honestly cannot fathom though why people would be waiting over Christmas for them to be published, it's genuinely quite worrying.
Bordois · 30/12/2021 19:16

It literally tells you the reason for the delay on the dashboard Confused

vera99 · 30/12/2021 19:20

The system is pretty much dysfunctional, good job had loads of LFT's and looked like a rogue faint result way back when. I had begun to think the test had been lost until I got the email today. SE outer London.

Test date: 16/12/2021
Your coronavirus PCR or other lab test result is negative. You likely did not have the virus.

There is still a chance you could be infected. To stay safe:

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 30/12/2021 19:22

I'm more bothered by the name and shame approach. Yesterday they pointed at Northern Ireland and today it's England.
Why not just say some regional delays?

So true!!

Why shouldn’t they have Christmas off? It’s not an essential service apart from for those who are obsessed with checking numbers.

@AlandAnna

So do you not think that those who staff the testing centres in all weathers deserve Christmas off too?

Anjo2011 · 30/12/2021 19:37

The numbers will be high because many people are trying to be responsible and test before mixing over new year. It’s time they stopped the hysterical publishing of positive cases. It’s like there’s a race to who can announce the most .

Yes, of course! Everyone should have Christmas off if they want and if practical Xmas Smile I expect there is a rota for the testing staff as with other NHS services and volunteers will be paid extra for working Christmas. As members of my team have been.
Againstmachine · 30/12/2021 19:42

8.30 now not sure why people need the info urgently, unless you are boris.

Beakerandbungle · 30/12/2021 19:43

@vera - that’s interesting, I haven’t had mine back from 23rd was assuming it is lost but maybe it will eventually turn up!

And this post really reminds me of ones right at the start of the pandemic.

It's as though the intervening two years have not happened.

  1. Don't use the word hysterical, it's profoundly misogynistic. It makes the speaker sound ignorant.

2 It really isn't an emotional thing, it's a useful factual announcement.

Heathway · 30/12/2021 19:46

Google is saying over 220,000 cases today just now….

BambinaJAS · 30/12/2021 19:47

Case counts will be 200-250k. They can handle that though.

The issue is likely ro be death related. There are always reporting problems around holidays. This year likely doubly so due to the two weekday holidays added to the calendar. They are also likely to be larger (300+) so takes more time to collate ane check.

From what source?
Anjo2011 · 30/12/2021 19:50

@herecomesthsun . That’s my opinion so I will word it how I wish. Even on mumsnet.

That is from Dec 29
SecretKeeper1 · 30/12/2021 19:56

It’s the hospitalisation and ventilator numbers I’m interested in - they haven’t been updated since 22nd. At that point there were 8246 patients in hospital with covid* of which 842 were on ventilators.

(* these people might be in hospital because of a non-covid illness or accident. Still, it’s the best comparable indication we’ve got of how things are going right now)

WhoWants2Know · 30/12/2021 19:58

Hospital numbers for England are out at 11,452 as of Thursday. 71% admitted with Covid as the primary cause and the rest "with" Covid

It’s just the ‘pretty’ and public numbers that weren’t done over Christmas. The figures were still communicated to those who actually need them.

That’s a really useful and important distinction, thanks for sharing that.
