That growth rate in the 80-84 age group though! (I assume those figures are all low single digits?)

sirfredfredgeorge · 26/11/2021 22:03

(I now see my assumptions could be answered simply by looking at the next image)

Thanks for pre-empting!

1990butgrey · 26/11/2021 22:04

@sirfredfredgeorge looks like it's 3 cases up from 1

Warhertisuff · 26/11/2021 22:19

@boys3

taking sirfred''s link a step further

Breaking case rate in England by age band over the past five weeks. Final column shows the percentage change in the most recent week.

Plus one for actual case numbers.

That's a very positive set of stats amongst the doom and gloom. Good to see rates amongst the most vulnerable demographics fall. I'm presuming Boosters are a big factor in this.
MRex · 26/11/2021 23:02

Booster follow-up anecdata. I became booster eligible on Monday and only cancelled it due to being unwell. I had one invite prior to that from the GP, booked, and since then have had a contact every day through email or text, all different text and TWO contacts today. With this escalation, if I'm not jabbed by end of next week I'm expecting Van Tam on the doorstep.

JanglyBeads · 26/11/2021 23:03

Grin MRex.

How are you feeling?

MRex · 26/11/2021 23:19

Better thanks, my heart rate has calmed down and my chest doesn't hurt to cough any more. Still coughing and sneezing but a bit less, still negative LFTs. DH finally had a cough today and has announced many times this evening that he's entirely lost all sense of taste and smell... oh no wait, it's ok he can taste the curry... no, it's all gone... oh he can taste the beer... no, definitely can't smell anything now, so should he do another LFT... He does admit he's not actually very unwell, but I suspect his illness will feel much longer than mine. To me.

boys3 · 26/11/2021 23:25

same set of age stats but for each England region, with a little sparkline added for good measure.

East Midlands to start; the continuous green starts at the 60-64 age band; although the 50-54s are also green, but 50-59s with a small week on week percentage increase

East of England green from the 50-54s onwards, with a slight blip in the 80-84s, although that group still in the low 50s per 100,000 in the most recent week

London although still with the lowest overall regional rate far fewer greens in the weekly percentage change.

Interesting Twitter thread on Omicron. Looks like it diverged to create its own path in a low test area of Africa summer 2020 and can outcompete Delta. It isn't known whether it makes people any more unwell, and whether it evades immunity.

I hope you are recovering. Thanks for this; slightly worried by: "This also yields a median estimate of exponential doubling time of 4.8 days"

JanglyBeads · 27/11/2021 08:58

15% of travellers from two SA flights to Amsterdam tested positive. (If you’re fully vaxxed you can board a SA plane without pre testing.) They are now sequencing to find out how many are omicron.

We weren’t testing anyone landing yesterday, just advising they get day 2 and 8 tests….

There appears to be some effort to surge test people who attended Twickenham last weekend:

There's LFTs being handed out everywhere here according to neighbours (we're in a neighbouring borough). We were given some from nursery.

Whether travel restrictions are worth it.
