Yes @PositivePosie there is more news and it’s not good …. and still doesn’t tell us what actually went wrong at the Wolverhampton lab:

PositivePosie · 23/11/2021 18:06

I take it the media are uninterested in what is currently happening in schools, hospitals and covid labs then 🤦‍♀️

JanglyBeads · 23/11/2021 18:22

It would seem that way wouldn’t it?

herecomesthsun · 23/11/2021 18:39

Possible problems with a lab in Loughborough according to the Independent (who knows?)

Health metrics latest position in England

All these will be a 2021 v 2020 comparator graphs and reflect the seven day average.

Admissions and Hospitalisations are both just from Aug to Dec and full year and cover England. The seven NHS regions will appear a bit later this evening.

Deaths just England overall, based on date of death, and being within 28 days of a confirmed positive. The seven day average stops a week ago to recognise the longer reporting lag.

A quick cases in England position just to start though.

These graphs are brilliant and show the difference in a year so clearly.

sirfredfredgeorge · 24/11/2021 16:25

No LFD's confirmed again, and the ones from previously are becoming less confirmed every day.

41k, ~5000 up on same day last week, but I don't trust any of the numbers, failing to confirm LFD's without any comment as to why they're not...

They do say "Because of a processing issue, positive lateral flow tests followed by a negative PCR test in England were not removed on 23 Nov 2021. Today's figures include removals for 2 days."

But no comments on the LFD followed by PCR simply missing.

Is this the start of a societal change in the messaging getting through though, that LFT's are as accurate as PCR's, and therefore not bothering to confirm?

sirfredfredgeorge · 24/11/2021 16:31

Although the error they did admit too means we can see how many false positives they're removing, and it's not a high number - 600 from +two days ago, which implies there's not a large lab false positive issue going on, as that was the same as the number early in the year when they just forgot to remove them entirely and then did.

I can't imagine all of a sudden 100% of people deciding not to confirm, and 5 people who'd already had it confirmed on Monday, removing their tests...

I've been thinking about this. PCRs are an easy way to check variants. If people just trusted the LFT and didn't get a lab confirmed result a whole new variant could seed very quickly with no one realising.
