@Regulus The main argument against that is that it's sufficient to just test ill people, since that is what ultimately matters, and any variant which didn't cause ill people wouldn't be a problem at all.

So you're probably better off testing 100% of the ill people to see what variant is causing it, rather than 5% of all positive people. Obviously this would be a delay on infection before they got ill, but the variant would still be a subset before being noticed so adjustments could be made.

We don't do any testing on any other respiratory virus other than in the ill.

Regulus · 24/11/2021 17:37

True Fred But would people bother to get tested if they trusted the LFTs?

sirfredfredgeorge · 24/11/2021 18:00

Regulus the people ill enough to need treatment would be the ones getting tested, and they'd be a large enough sample I'd say.

boys3 · 24/11/2021 19:28

as its Wednesday it must be time to copy and paste cases night.

Same format as previously.

Rank - sorted high to low, based on most recent 7 day case rate

Council

Region

Cases per 100,000 for each of the past four weeks, with the most recent ending Sunday 21st November (so the final week column for 21st Nov reflects a three day lag). Each week is conditionally formatted so that those that have seen significant movement (be that up or down) over the five weeks relative to others are easily spotted.

Mini column graph for those weeks just shown; red indicating the peak figure in the past five weeks.

% change : 21st November vs 14th November figure. Those with an increase matching or exceeding the England percentage amber highlighted; those with an increase but less than the England figure yellowy colour (on my screen at least); blue for flat; and green for a percentage decrease. Overall England had a 9% increase.

The next two columns reflect actual case numbers, not rates, and look at the number of cases as reported last Wednesday for Monday and Tuesday spec dates; and the number of cases reported today for Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd so far. In other words a direct like for like comparison. Then the percentage movement with the same colour logic although in this case the upward change 14%. Although this may be reflective of the lag in Monday spec date cases being reported through last week.

Figures for England are shown at the top of every table, with 25 Councils shown on each table aside from the very last one.

This first table is however for English regions.

MRex · 24/11/2021 21:07

Hello wise ones. I'm in the not-covid test statistic today from the weekend, along with DS (mild cough now gone) and symptomless DH. Cough horrendous, streaming nose, headache, chills, minor stomach upset, muscle aches and fatigue. It's horrendous enough that I'm isolating regardless, nobody wants this. My question is that my booster was due last Monday; I've deferred hoping to feel better next week, but how big a gap between coughing and booster should I give to not overburden my clearly stressed immune system? I'm not up to researching for myself.

MRex · 24/11/2021 21:10

Also, my oxygen levels have dropped a few times to the high 80s but then recover. Do I need to worry about that? I only checked due to getting short of breath coughing so DH made me.

sirfredfredgeorge · 24/11/2021 21:17

I'm sure it's too early for any knowledge about covid vaccines, and I couldn't find anything in a quick search. With other vaccines like the flu shot, the recommendation is not if there's a fever, otherwise it's okay, but I imagine part of that might be simply that it's more important to get any protection.

So I wouldn't think it necessary to postpone for long, as you've said not going out with your whatever other virus is useful, but probably not necessary to wait much longer.

herecomesthsun · 24/11/2021 21:21

very sorry to hear you're poorly, hope things improve soon.

Personally, I'd have a word with 111 if my O2 sats fell. I would also talk to a doctor if possible about the booster (in IRL, not us on here Smile)

Do you have a temperature? Do you have phlegm coming up (sorry)? - things you might want to discuss with the IRL dr.

boys3 · 24/11/2021 21:28

I’d really follow up on those oxygen levels @MRex as here suggests. Seriously better to be safe than sorry.

OP posts:
JanglyBeads · 24/11/2021 22:01

Take care MRex. You could have received a false negative, althoughI assume you’ve LFTd also?

JanglyBeads · 24/11/2021 22:02

Of course even having a neg PCR abs neg LFT doesn’t make you definitely negative though.

PineappleCubes · 24/11/2021 23:14

Yes I would definitely get medical advice with oxygen sats that low, and I'm not sure I'd trust the pcr either. Even low 90s counts as low (possibly enough for hospital) and high 80s surely even more so.
