To think most people would prefer pubs and restaurants close in December than miss out on Christmas with their families again.

Plan C of the health secretaries plan if numbers continue to rise and masks and SD don't work is to ban people going around peoples homes again, surely it is better and safer as it will be less people together if they close bars and restaurants and let people have Christmas with family this year.

I honestly don’t think anyone would stick to the rules at all if they even attempted to enforce it.

WhatsAppening · 21/10/2021 08:42

God no. The hospitality sector is on its knees. We can’t handle any more closures, it would be the end of hospitality as we know it.

2typesofjungle · 21/10/2021 08:43

My family suck, I'd rather go to the pub.

TheKeatingFive · 21/10/2021 08:43

They were never able to enforce rules about private homes to begin with. They're certainly not going to manage it now.

zafferana · 21/10/2021 08:43

I think most people would prefer that people get their bloody vaccines so we don't need to do either!

araiwa · 21/10/2021 08:43

I'll be going to pub thanks

TheSpiral · 21/10/2021 08:44

If it was a choice between the two then yes, I personally would prefer family. I don’t think the government would have a leg to stand on telling people they couldn’t meet up with family over Christmas given Johnson’s arrangements last Christmas. I followed the rules last year because I thought it was the right thing to do, and I was very upset about it. I wouldn’t do it again.

CocaColaTruck1 · 21/10/2021 08:45

Christmas time in a pub is my favourite so I hope not!

Mybalconyiscracking · 21/10/2021 08:45

I am fully vaccinated, my family are fully vaccinated, I will ignore any attempts to keep me away from them now.

Shadedog · 21/10/2021 08:46

Depends on what your family is like and whether you like the pub. If you work in hospitality you may be happy to spend Christmas with your household rather than see your business go to the wall.

Hoolihan · 21/10/2021 08:47

No, would prefer pubs & restaurants to stay open as I think many/most won't survive another enforced closure.

DeepaBeesKit · 21/10/2021 08:47

People will ignore rules about not seeing family.

FreedomFaith · 21/10/2021 08:47

Why not just start plan b now and make everyone wear masks again and social distance? Because barely anyone is now in england. Can probably slow the numbers down easily with just that, no need for other action.

Winter2020 · 21/10/2021 08:48

I vote no to either. I know Covid is real and I know it's killing people but these measures are destroying lives too. I'd vote we keep going with vaccines, ordinary social distancing/masks and handwashing etc. People that want to be locked down go ahead and choose to stay at home.

Hoolihan · 21/10/2021 08:48

But obviously would prefer neither! And wouldn't comply.

fourminutestosavetheworld · 21/10/2021 08:48

I don't want anything to close again. I don't care how many people are infected as long as they are not dying, and they're not. Infections are not translating to deaths. Of those hospitalised, 80% are unvaccinated so I'd rather see more people persuaded to vaccinate.

I slavishly followed every rule, even when many others weren't, but I've had enough now. If I feel like this then I think a lot of other people do too - unenforceable.

The only people I know now who are worried about infections are very anxious people who haven't left the house since March 2020.

RJnomore1 · 21/10/2021 08:50

@2typesofjungle

My family suck, I'd rather go to the pub.
Me too I live with the only ones I’d care about not seeing anyway.
MrsBerthaRochester · 21/10/2021 08:50

They can't afford more lockdowns, people won't comply with not seeing family again after we were told the vaccine would end this. Now they are suggesting possibly using anti viral tablets too? No thanks. I shall carry on as normal and take my chances.

Hollyhead · 21/10/2021 08:50

No not me - closing pubs/restaurants etc is not nearly such a powerful measure as household mixing. I’m against reintroducing crap measures that make only a small difference.

Plus I’m not going to abide by any future rules of household mixing regarding to COVID-19. It’s no longer a serious enough pathogen to do it for.

Onandoff · 21/10/2021 08:51

@zafferana

I think most people would prefer that people get their bloody vaccines so we don't need to do either!
This. And if that doesn’t work then where does this end?
megletthesecond · 21/10/2021 08:51

Yanbu.

Roselilly36 · 21/10/2021 08:52

The pub/restaurant owners won’t thank you OP. I take it you don’t own a hospitality business? They have suffered greatly during the pandemic another enforced closure will be the end for many of these businesses.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/10/2021 08:52

Er, no. I don't want to pay for any more furlough. Neither should happen anyway.

AuntieMarys · 21/10/2021 08:52

Not me!!! We go out a lot in December...plus have 5 gigs booked.

BeMoreHedgehog · 21/10/2021 08:54

And how would I afford Christmas with my work shut down yet again?
