Year group closed over a week ago and self isolating kids are still testing positive now 😩

Yea school bubble closures are bad here too but many of the children I know haven’t developed symptoms so they either haven’t had it or are asymptotic. I do think it’s time to stop close contact isolation. Obviously if anyone shows symptoms they should stay off but we need to get back to as much normal as poss now. If it all goes wrong then I guess we put the relevant procedures back in place but it’s time to try.

Listening to Radio 4 earlier, that a like on who was a paediatrician and virologist. They asked him about this, and he basically said they will no longer do the whole class isolation thing from September.

Cases are high but serious illness and deaths remain low, that's the thing. Remember that many thousands more LFTs are being done daily now and picking up asymptomatic cases which earlier in the pandemic wouldn't have been counted in the figures.

Cases being high but serious illness/hospitalisations/deaths staying low means that vaccines are working and that's precisely what we need to be able to open fully.

Here’s a ‘usual suspect’ popping along to say a lot can happen in 3 weeks. Whilst the chain appears to be broken at the moment please do not underestimate Covid and the devastating consequences that can follow complacency.

Remember, Israel have reversed their decision to give up face masks so from yesterday they are mandatory again. Hong Kong have banned flights from the UK today because we are now deemed an ‘Extremely high risk’ country.

Our cases were over 20k today so there’s something happening in the community that would indicate now is maybe not the right time to be lifting restrictions that have helped keep infections in check.

Lifting of restrictions is great but i would be surprised of masks were moved from all settings. Be thankful we haven't had much of the continents restrictions in including wearing masks outdoors

It will happen but restrictions will be re-applied by early september. Look at israel, they've just had their freedom day a couple of weeks ago and now they have reintroduced mask wearing indoors again. It will be a brief touch of normality before it all goes south again unfortunately

We definitely need a better plan for schools, and I say this as a clinically vulnerable teacher and a parent. Sending healthy children home to isolate is just crazy now that so many adults are vaccinated. I know the children do seem to be catching this variant, but I have yet to hear of any that are actually ill – we just know they are catching it because there is so much testing now

So will travel restrictions go too?
