Feeling down, is the 21st unlikely?

I keep reading on here and on the news that it’s unlikely to happen on the 21st. I feel so down about it. We had so many plans that will have to be cancelled. It feels like some normality then back 10 steps :(

50/50 I reckon

I'd say it's too early to say.

The plan has always been that each step depends on the situation at the review date

Everyone's guess is just that and every possible outcome has been done to death on what seems like the same thread repeated 100s of times since the roadmap was announced

BelleBlueBell · 27/05/2021 19:46

@Dorothy1940

Of course it's unlikely, people are dying and the new cases of the Indian variant are on the rise. I'm sorry but the only option ahead needs to be a lockdown until we get to zero covid where we can live our lives again. Sadly the anti vaxxers have put a stop to covid going so we must now take the necessary measures
Of course it's not the only option, that's a stupid thing to say

No one is aiming for zero covid, where have you got that idea from?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 27/05/2021 19:48

More likely not to happen than happen I think. Odds might change if we actually do something to contain the spread, but it might be a bit late now.

You can never tell with this government though. They might just go ahead with it anyway. As long as we open on the 21st like we s’aide would we can reverse it on the 22nd.

(Yes, I know they didn’t say we were unlocking on the 21st, but everyone seems to think they did.)

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 27/05/2021 19:50

Tbf, we know we’re not aiming for zero covid. That’s why we keep having lengthy lockdowns with little respite in between.

tobee · 27/05/2021 19:50

This is not a great place to ask tbh

tobee · 27/05/2021 19:55

People have always been dying.

Ain't gonna happen.

I ask nicely, but are you on glue?

You can be rude all you like, if you think there will be no more lockdowns , you're away with the fairies. Did you miss the interviews with government ministers who say " they cant be ruled out" ?
mog27 · 27/05/2021 20:00

Let's be honest no one took the second lockdown seriously and I doubt people will tolerate another. The promise of freedom that came with the vaccine now looks untrue but I don't think people will listen to yet another lockdown and they'll just meet up in their homes and gardens if pubs and other hospitality closes again.

zero covid is not possible

Ummmm No. Just no.

If we haven't managed to eliminate headlice, I don't see us beating covid.

Would those be the same fairies that told you we were aiming for zero covid and there are no other options?

Do you really believe that?

Welcome to Mumsnet, Dorothy1940! It’s a little odd that you joined just to say that zero covid is the only option for the country and elsewhere that death is ‘still better than long covid’, but it takes all sorts, right?

As you’re new you may not realise, so just giving you a heads up that this kind of posting history might seem to others awfully like you’re shit-stirring. Just in case that’s useful to know. Smile

MarshaBradyo · 27/05/2021 20:06

People will say no on here

But hard to say atm

Sunshineday1 · 27/05/2021 20:07

No way on this planet will I follow another lockdown. Nope. No way. Sorry! I’ve played my part for over a year now, deaths are minimal, ( not disregarding those poor souls who lost their lives AT ALL ) but people die, that’s life unfortunately. Life needs to resume now

Bramblespoint · 27/05/2021 20:07

Can I ask op what plans you'll have to cancel?

I'm trying to see it like this, you can already meet 30 people outside. Weathers getting better so we can do this for a while. Shops, cinema, restaurants etc are all open.

If the 21st gets delayed at least we are not in lockdown which personally I don't think we'll go back to 🤞🏻

I never implied there will never be another lockdown. You are saying to keep lockdown until covid magically disappears, which isn't possible. Maybe you think those fairies can take it away?

Nobody knows about the 21st. If you want to cheer yourself up though look at Wales’s figures - they’re a few weeks ahead of the rest of us on vaccines and their cases and hospitalisations have absolutely plummeted. Bodes well for the future, if not the 21st on the dot then hopefully not too long after.
