Thank you!

JanFebAnyMonth · 09/05/2021 21:58

Thanks boys.

Am in Northants and know nothing about South Northants. Although I note Corby, Wellingborough and Peterborough are still present in that top table too. Heard the PHD on the radio last week saying how pleased she was that Corby rates had decreased significantly.

ceeveebee · 09/05/2021 22:43

Thanks for the new thread

Re Bolton surge testing which was being discussed on the last thread - I don’t think it started until last Wednesday (5th May) so too soon to be included in the testing stats and positivity rates, but could be the reason for the steep increases in cases for specimen dates from 5th onwards

EducatingArti · 09/05/2021 23:00

I don't think the surge testing really started properly till Friday!

Frazzled2207 · 09/05/2021 23:18

I also thought it was Friday because they couldn’t do it until the Indian variant became a VofC. Government didn’t do that until Friday to avoid Election Day.

Frazzled2207 · 09/05/2021 23:19

But yes too soon to have a clear impact as of today

ceeveebee · 10/05/2021 00:05

Ah - MEN said Wednesday - but yes either way it’s too soon for results to be showing

info on what's actually happening in Bolton - fingers crossed the council is on the ball with this. www.bolton.gov.uk/news/article/1162/bolton-s-covid-response-more-test-sites-vaccine-drive-and-community-engagement

reading between the lines a bit the newest efforts seem to be targetting the ethnic minority communities, both in terms of testing and making sure they get vaccinated. Crossing fingers.

Wakemeuuuup · 10/05/2021 11:29

I completely agree @AnneofScreamFables. Thank you so much @littleowl1, your daily updates have been brilliant. I'll really miss them. I wish you all the best

Simpta · 10/05/2021 11:31

Yes massive thank you to @littleowl1 - long time lurker, I’ve not posted before but covid messenger has been my go to along with this thread for the last year.

TruelyWonder · 10/05/2021 11:32

Starting to get news of cases in some of my London boroughs schools. Our primary has just sent the whole of year 6 home. Getting worried again now Sad

Frazzled2207 · 10/05/2021 11:53

My y1 nephew has just been sent home for the third time this academic year. Greater Manchester (not near Bolton)

However @TruelyWonder cases are still on the whole very low and still decreasing (I think some kind of uptick is expected).

I will try and link to a twitter thread saying that herd immunity is expected sometime in June which is quite exciting.

Kyph · 10/05/2021 14:16

Just got my last batch of Covid Messenger e mails. Thanks to LittleOwl.

Thank you boys3 that makes me feel better. My local cases are more likely to be the Kent variant at the moment then.

JanFebAnyMonth · 10/05/2021 14:41

However those figures are for two weeks ago and the situation is changing quite quickly, eg Bedford now has many more cases than 1! Useful to see nonetheless thanks boys.

boys3 · 10/05/2021 15:07

Just to be clear on the numbers above. They are based on genomes sequences for general surveillance, rather than those specifically selected in targeted sequencing efforts - surge testing and samples from those with a recent known travel history. the latter two would obviously be useful to know so any links to published datasets with that info at council area level would be welcomed

There is a lag between physical test - result processing - genome sequencing. The data I used accordingly only went as far as 24th April at that detailed LA level. It has been further updated today ( I took the download last night) to add the week up to 1st May. I’ll have a look at that latest week.

@JanFebAnyMonth strangely enough for Bedford the “1” is still correct in part. It’s just now preceded by a “2” Sad.

Leicester moved from 28 to 43, though the majority still appear in w/e 24 April, now 25.

Blackburn now 41 previously 7

Bedford as above now 21

Bolton big jump to 107 from 29

Sefton 17 added in w/e 1st May, so now 18 rather than 1.

Harrow up slightly from 15 to 18 and has the highest absolute total number for any LBC. Followed by 12 for Hounslow, 11 for Hillingdon, 10 for Ealing - again these are cumulative totals. No other LBC in double figures.

Indeed beyond those listed above the only other double figure councils are:

Birmingham with 10

South Northants 10

Buckinghamshire 12

Nottingham 26 (up from 10 in the table posted earlier)

73 councils in the download last night; 121 in the download just taken.

Thanks @boys3 wasn’t meaning to criticise!

Am going to hunt local press websites and see if there’s any word on those 10 South Northants cases. Possibly ‘leakage’ from Bedford I guess....
