Moderna side effects

Hi, I am having the Moderna jab in the morning... and just wondering if any of you have had it already and what side effects you might have had after it? Not sure what to expect, is it a bit fluey like the AZ one?

OP posts:
Etulosba · 14/04/2021 20:24

Supposed to be minimal side effects after the first jab but similar to AZ after the second.

lorisparkle · 14/04/2021 20:25

My DH had the Modena vaccine this afternoon - no side effects yet, however I know the side effects for AZ do not usually appear until quite a few hours later so it will be interesting to see if the Modena is the same.

Redcrayons · 14/04/2021 20:36

12 hours on for me. My arm is really sore. I’m going to take some painkillers before I go to bed. Annoyingly I had the jab on the side I sleep on so that’s going to be interesting tonight.

Other than that, I seem to be OK but maybe still a bit too early to tell.
Everyone I know who has been jabbed so far, although AZ & Pfizer felt it the day after.

buckleten · 14/04/2021 20:59

I had Moderna yesterday, the only thing I have is a sore and stiff upper arm, but it's fine really.

Same for me - just over 24 hrs later
Tolacar · 14/04/2021 21:10

Had first dose at midday today and I have a sore tender arm. Otherwise I feel ok, maybe a bit tired. I’ve been taking paracetamol since I got home just in case.

Ineedaneasteregg · 14/04/2021 21:10

I've had the first jab and had a sore upper arm for a couple of days.
The second dose is often worse I believe.

KihoBebiluPute · 19/04/2021 22:43

I had moderna today and just have a stiff sore arm. Possibly also stiff sore shoulders but that could be an effect of slobby slouching on the sofa all evening rather than a vaccine side effect. Presumably previous posters on this thread will have dose2 a few days before I do in early July so I would appreciate any updates on whether the knock-on are indeed any worse for you then.

Yep I have a really sore arm after having Moderna jab yesterday. Relieved to hear others have too! I felt a bit pathetic as DH had Pfizer and says his arm was ok afterwards Blush

No other side effects so far at all although my period has started a few days early Hmm

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 22/04/2021 13:15

Took 36+ hours for my Moderna second shot side effects to kick in.

It wasn’t too bad - slight fever, headache, earache, fatigue. I spent the evening mostly in bed but got up to eat dinner with my family.

DH had worse side effects from his and they kicked in around 12 hours after.

Neither of us had much of a reaction to the first shot.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 22/04/2021 13:16

My arm still hurts 48 hours later but other than that I’m now fine.

hanahsaunt · 22/04/2021 13:25

Moderna and Pfizer are both rNA-based vaccines whereas AZ uses attenuated virus so the side-effects for Moderna appear to be the similar to Pfizer i.e. a really sore arm 24h later for 24-36h (and neatly demonstrated by dh who had Pfizer and me who had Moderna). Almost everyone I know who had AZ in the 50-65 age bracket had a day of feeling absolutely awful. Dh sailed through Pfizer 2 though I know some of his colleagues felt a bit rubbish the next day. I haven't had Moderna 2 yet.

KihoBebiluPute · 22/04/2021 17:08

I felt absolutely fine by day 3 (Wednesday) but was rather grumpy and lethargic and achey on Tuesday having been jabbed Monday lunchtime.

How do you know which jab you're having in advance?

I thought they didn't tell you until you got there!

Schulte · 23/04/2021 08:07

Like others said, mostly the sore arm. I was also really tired yesterday and have a headache, but that may be a tension headache rather than the jab.

PaterPower · 24/04/2021 07:43

I had a sore arm almost immediately after the jab, which got very sore about 12 hours later. Also fatigued and woolly headed the day after.

I was fine for about a week after but last night I woke up to feeling really dizzy with associated nausea. Out of hours said that it may be related to having had the jab. I’ve still got quite bad vertigo (three hours in) which is manageable if I stay sitting very still. If I move around it feels like I’m drunk and want to throw up.

Might be unrelated to the vaccine, but I don’t have soreness or inflammation in my ears, and no other symptoms that would point to a flu type infection.

This is completely untrue.

No attenuated virus Covid vaccines are approved for use in the UK at present, but they are being used elsewhere.

The AZ is a viral vector vaccine. 'It is made from a weakened version of a common cold virus (known as an adenovirus) from chimpanzees. It has been modified to contain genetic material shared by the coronavirus - although it can't cause the illness. Once injected, it teaches the body's immune system how to fight the real virus.'

Correction: attenuated virus vaccines may be being used elsewhere.

Sadik · 24/04/2021 22:58

I had a bit of a sore arm that passed quickly immediately after vaccination, but then 8 days later I got a rash / swelling / itchiness around the injection site, it's still somewhat noticeable a few days later. I've been wearing a longer sleeved t-shirt to make sure it's covered against the sun as it feels a bit like sensitivity from a minor run-in with hogweed. (Also, I don't feel like rubbing suncream on that bit right now!)

Shopaholic100 · 25/04/2021 12:47

Did anyone have the Moderna in the Beds/Herts and Bucks area?

bookworm1632 · 25/04/2021 18:30

Apart from a feeling of a bruised arm muscle, and possibly a little fatigue last night, although that could have been the day's bike ride, no side effects at all.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/04/2021 20:04

I had Moderna yesterday. My arm is really sore still, to the point where I didn’t wash/dry my hair like I usually would, but otherwise absolutely fine.

Mablefly · 26/04/2021 12:28

I had my first moderna on Friday. I felt a bit achy and tired about 6 hours later and then had a headache for a couple of days. Nothing too bad. I'm expecting my 2nd to be worse but absolutely delighted to have had my jab and won't hesitate to get my 2nd in July!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/04/2021 12:38

Just checking back in to say I feel a bit "off" today - like I am coming down with a cold. That might just be co-incidence though! My arm is still very sore, but I washed and blow-dried my hair as normal, so nothing that is really limiting me.

This is probably entirely unrelated, but I am inexplicably 3lb heavier today than usual - I weigh myself every morning so it's not a gradual creep. I usually fluctuate by a pound or so, but that seemed like a jump.
