Social distancing and queueing in shops

Blossomplease6 · 10/04/2021 21:02

When will it end? June? I have a child with SEN and all the queueing to get in everywhere and dancing around people In shops and staying behind lines is making it impossible to take him out.

It should end now. There are 6 people in my county with it at the moment -6! Why the fuck are we still queueing up like idiots in the freezing cold? Has anyone looked at the numbers recently?! They’re TINY.
If it’s not June I’m going to proper lose it, like Michael Douglas in Falling Down.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 10/04/2021 21:14

It’s relaxing a lot where I am. In theory the rules are still there but people are following them a bit less carefully.

TheMotherlode · 10/04/2021 21:28

According to the road map it should all end in June, I’m sceptical as to whether that will actually happen though, I think too many people are too scared to move back to normal that quickly

HSHorror · 10/04/2021 21:29

I would bear in mind the people in the q could be from fr/italy/india/pakistan/ brazil etc etc.
Also now people are vaxxed they are even less likely to have symptoms

RoseRedRoseBlue · 10/04/2021 21:31

@Chickenriceandpeas I couldn’t agree more. Half of these now pointless rules need binning immediately.

Terracotta9 · 10/04/2021 21:32

I was supposed to go to the supermarket this afternoon but the queue was all the way around the block and I just couldn’t be arsed.

Utterly fed up with this.

KurtWilde · 10/04/2021 21:33

It all needs to stop now. The numbers are tiny and it's getting silkier and sillier still having things in place that were only relevant when the numbers were huge.

That’s not true. The roadmap stated that social distancing would be reviewed (hopefully) before 21st June but not that it will necessarily end then.
milkysmum · 10/04/2021 21:37

Agree this needs to stop. Stood outside in the snow with my children like we are in some crazy dystopian film, queuing for half an hour just to post a parcel at the post office this morning. It's beyond ridiculous.
I'm a nurse, and I'm done with these restrictions now honestly- we all need our lives back.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 10/04/2021 21:37

Needs to stop now. No one's paying attention to all those ridiculous one way shite, either. Fuck it.

covetingthepreciousthings · 10/04/2021 21:38

I work in retail and I'm dreading this week as trying to control the number of shoppers coming into the shop especially if lone trading is a nightmare people just barge in.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 10/04/2021 21:39

@osbertthesyrianhamster the one way thing is so, pointless. Angers me!

Buzzinwithbez · 10/04/2021 21:42

I let my daughter skip about. I don't think she notices the one way systems and arrows. She keeps things normal.

murbblurb · 10/04/2021 21:45

Feral out of control NT children don't help this . Kids should not be 'skipping about' in shops. Control your trip hazard.

Changingwiththetimes · 10/04/2021 21:46

Can't remember the last time I had to queue or dance around people. I mean you always had to queue at the check out or post office, just a bit more spaced out now. What I find annoying is the 'only two people in' some small shops - that does seem excessive now.

As a supermarket worker I'd rather have a kid skipping about just to see them annoy customers like you. We've had enough doom and gloom and follow the arrows, time to get back to some sort of normality now the vaccination program is being successfully rolled out.

Wow. Children are not a 'trip hazard' and if you're tripping over kids perhaps you should look where you're going.

Same here, supermarkets haven't had queues for ages, and the places that still do, like the PO have always had queues, even pre covid.
Blossomplease6 · 10/04/2021 21:56

I know we’d still have to queue anyway but now I’m queuing twice. Once to get in, then again to pay. It’s hard enough getting my son to a shop, when we approach it and he sees a queue we’re on the verge of meltdown before even getting inside.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen anyone pay any attention to one way systems. Nobody really keeps a distance, I’m ok with that. It’s just that these rules seem so embedded now I can’t see them backing away from them.
I just want to be able to shop as normal. Go somewhere without booking (zoo, farm, restaurant) ages in advance.

KurtWilde · 10/04/2021 21:57

We've had queues at Tesco and Lidl all the way through. Tesco has a red light green light in place so you can't enter if the light is red. All a bit ott now.

Blossomplease6 · 10/04/2021 21:58

Most of our big supermarkets still have queues on weekends (london) and even the little local tesco has a red traffic light queue system if you go in the evenings after work when it’s busier.
I don’t even know what the purpose of it is tbh. It doesn’t seem to make it any less busy. It’s probably be better if they just let people get on with it.

OP posts:
Terracotta9 · 10/04/2021 21:59

At my supermarket queues on weekends are still 20-30 mins to get in.

Is the curve still not flat enough?

Same here.

It's hardly the end of the world to take a step back and I'd be more than happy for people to be more mindful of personal space moving forwards. I've never liked people breathing down my neck in queues. It's like some people think the more they shuffle closer to the person in front, the quicker the person on the tills will work. 🤦‍♀️

Blossomplease6 · 10/04/2021 22:00

Only on mumsnet does a skipping child equate to feral and out of control Grin
