Social distancing and queueing in shops

When will it end? June? I have a child with SEN and all the queueing to get in everywhere and dancing around people In shops and staying behind lines is making it impossible to take him out.

Feral? A child behaving like a child?

Blimey, that’s a bit strong.

Bluebird2021 · 11/04/2021 11:14

So what’s the answer?

Let everyone in en masse? Leaving the staff with a constant stream of people?

Shoppers are in, then out....away from it all.... retail staff are going to be stuck in a mass of people their entire shift

DenisetheMenace · 11/04/2021 11:15

UserTwice

Children who randomly skip around shops into the paths of other shoppers (who are looking where they are going) are a trip hazard. ....... “

If the other shoppers are looking where they are going, why would they trip over children?

Trips and falls are a real concern to frail people but the world goes on. Perhaps home delivery is the solution for their concerns?

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 11/04/2021 11:24

@Chickenriceandpeas

It should end now. There are 6 people in my county with it at the moment -6! Why the fuck are we still queueing up like idiots in the freezing cold? Has anyone looked at the numbers recently?! They’re TINY. If it’s not June I’m going to proper lose it, like Michael Douglas in Falling Down.
You and me both. I cant take this shit any longer.

We have vaccines, the death toll is dropping and it's almost as if the government and media cabt stand it.

Notice how the media have stopped with their daily doom death and cases statistics?

Bluebird2021 · 11/04/2021 11:27

No. The over 50’s and vulnerable had had vaccines

What about the retail staff? Have THEY all had vaccines?

Blossomplease6 · 11/04/2021 11:30

**So what’s the answer?

Yes. It’s happening anyway regardless of queuing outside. It can’t go on forever. Numbers are low and vulnerable are vaccinated. Are we forever going to try and live with a zero risk to any illness now?

OP posts:
Bluebird2021 · 11/04/2021 11:35

As a retail manager I can tell you we are still complying with covid audits

We still have a duty to protect our staff

So letting everyone in at once won’t be happening and queues will have to remain for now

IloveJKRowling · 11/04/2021 11:37

Jesus, we've had 150,000 dead. Tiny numbers can and do grow into large numbers very quickly with this - we were here last summer.

Do you people want a vaccine resistant variant to emerge and a 4th wave? I guess you do.

Social distancing is really the least difficult thing to do in all of this.

Bluebird2021 · 11/04/2021 11:39

How is it zero risk? Our colleagues who were shielding are now back in store working. They haven’t stopped being vulnerable
Vaccines won’t stop them from getting covid...just lessons the effect

Should we sack them and replace them with robots? Or ‘fitter’ people.

Or should everyone just use common sense and queue for a while to lesson the stress on staff who are there in store for up to 9/10 hours at a time?

IloveJKRowling · 11/04/2021 11:40

And yes, duty to protect staff is important, many of whom may be late 40s and unvaccinated.

Blossomplease6 · 11/04/2021 11:43

Covid isn’t going away. Queues outside shops are not helping. We need to go back to normal at some point. I’m not sure how queueing outside shops protects staff tbh. Surely screens and other measures help more.

If they are vulnerable and are scared of contracting Covid, they should stay at home.

I work in an essential shop and although we can take precautions, it is not full proof due to cash handling.

My colleagues who are unvaccinated under 50, wouldn't dream of thinking people have to be face masked, distancing, waiting outside, "just in case they catch covid" and even if they do, they're likely to mild symptoms.

Seems like common sense and personal safety are just out of the window with this virus.

Blossomplease6 · 11/04/2021 11:45

I just don’t understand at what point we will be able to stop.
It might seem a minor thing for some but my child can not cope, it’s like the straw that broke the camels back.

It doesn't. Nothing can 'help' staff. We cash handle, many of my colleagues have got Covid.

We have the over 50s vulnerable groups vaccinated, the possibility of death and serious illness is MINISCULE.

People who are scared and dont think its safe, then stay at home.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 11/04/2021 11:48

Surely if you don’t like distancing or the queues you just shop online or book a delivery? Why should the staff have to forgo safety measures or other shoppers?

Surely people who are so petrified should shop online or stay indoors Hmm

Blossomplease6 · 11/04/2021 11:54

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss unfortunately I do sometimes need to visit shops for a variety of reasons

It's not about this though is it, it's to comply with Covid secure risk assessments etc. This is why shops are trying to enforce limited numbers inside.. social distancing etc.

Bluebird2021 · 11/04/2021 11:55

You aren’t sure how people queuing outside protects staff???

You are not sure?? They are behind screens?

The cashiers are behind screens.....not shopfloor staff. How does queuing outside protect staff? Less people in store, more distance around everyone, and less people in one go..... if one person comes in with covid, and their family, chances are all people in that group have it. One goes off down another aisle and another wanders over to a display.... then covid goes with them and on it spreads

Into year 2 of this now, and still people expect retail staff to put up and shut up like they don’t matter.... like the Clark’s shoes moaner. You cannot distance from an ( unvaccinated) kid if fitting shoes

Bluebird2021 · 11/04/2021 11:57

So if you need to visit a shop op then do so? Nobody is stopping you

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 11/04/2021 11:58

It is about risk, yes.

95% of deaths with Covid on their certificate are 65s. Over 90% of hospital admissions are over 60.

They are vaccinated. With vaccines with high efficiency rates, even against variants.

Masks, distancing, queues outside of shops are an unnecessary measure given the risk of this virus.

Blossomplease6 · 11/04/2021 11:59

@Bluebird2021 I don’t think people that paranoid should be working in shops.

I don’t see how queueing outside helps. I believe the shop would be less busy if they just let it flow naturally. Do you want it to continue forever??

I work in a nursery by the way, so zero protection for me.

This wasn’t supposed to be an argument. I just wanted to know if it was ending in June so my son can just about cope with going out to places.

Remmy123 · 11/04/2021 11:59

Blossomplease6 · 11/04/2021 12:00

Apologies l, you must have missed my OP which is why we have crossed wires. I have a child with SEN and the endless queueing is preventing us from doing so a lot of the time.

OP posts:
Bluebird2021 · 11/04/2021 12:04

Then speak to the person manning the queue if it’s an issue?

You are dismissing retail staff as’paranoid’? They are not paranoid but have to follow covid precautions in place as agreed by their company with the government ... in order to be open and operating

No covid measures in store being managed mean they could be told to close

Keeping people in store to a manageable number is part of that
