When will it end? June? I have a child with SEN and all the queueing to get in everywhere and dancing around people In shops and staying behind lines is making it impossible to take him out.

Given that CV clearly isnt as infectious as the MSM would have us believe I'd wager the rest of the staff!

I had CV, slept in bed with DH and still hugged my kids and not one of them caught it. If it was that infectious there would have been WAY more than 4 million cases and vast amounts of that was hospital transmission. We already know hospitals are virus hotbeds, look what happens every winter with norovirus!

If you're too scared to work youre welcome to quit and give someone else your job.[/quote]
i'm not 'too scared to work' love! have worked all the way through, we've been open....non of us are 'too scared to work'

but

1/ our employers have a duty of care to keep us safe (which they do by insisting on robust covid protection measures, which yes, involves restricting amount of customers in store....and

2/ majority of the new people we HAVE employed has left fairly quickly as its too much for them. takes a certain robust kind of person to cope....customers,abuse,increased deliveries,less staff due to isolating/shielding/testing positive, physical tasks wearing a mask...oh,and covid worries as well (weirdly, retail workers are humans and have FAMILIES at home to pass any illnesses on to)

oh, and 3/ just because YOU didnt appear to pass it on to family (how do you know? did you test everyone daily then?)doesn't mean the rest of us wouldn't

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 11/04/2021 16:43

*1-2 weeks off formats people eh?

soooo with this line of thinking, as retail and sales assistants are in the most 'at risk' group of occupations, with highest elevated risk of death.....along with healthcare and other people facing occupations....who is going to be serving you as retail workers go off sick or to die?

(just so you don't have to queue or wear a mask or just keep your bloody distances inconvenient for you)*

Off sick and off to die? Wow.

I work in a supermarket and my colleagues were off for 1-2 weeks. I was off for 8 days. We all didn't get at once and this PRE VACCINATIONS.

Fembot123 · 11/04/2021 16:46

@RedcurrantPuff

But why does your child need to go in the shops? Surely there are more interesting things to do?

Such as? Everything has been shut for months!

You’ll get shamed if your child likes shopping and not just endless walks around the country side or have dared to our grow parks 😂😄 my Younger dc is fine with this but my elder too miss shopping or going somewhere they actually want to, we’d be lined up and shot as vacuous idiots by some Mumsnetters 😂
Fembot123 · 11/04/2021 16:48

@KurtWilde

It's a pretty sad state of affairs but I know a lot of kids who are actually thrilled at the prospect of a quick wander round Asda now. There's a sense of normalcy to it and let's face it in this weather it's far more enjoyable than walking round the park!

No one should have to defend their reasons for taking their kids shopping ffs.

Thiiiiiiiis 🙌🥇 It’s like some people have lost the ability to see beyond the end of their nose and realise everyone has different circumstances

nobody is saying you all get it at once....but even with 2 or 3 off it impacts service enough to have customers screeching at you to open another till/get the queue down/wheres all the stock?

and like you say....some people have a large chunk of time off, i mean,8 days! i've never had any of my team off for that length of time under normal circs...even those having the vaccine on the shop floor have taken a couple of days off with side effects. our CEV staff have only just come back as well and still get the odd one isolating....all adds up to staff shortages does it not?

i'd say 90 per cent of our till staff have not yet been vaccinated due to age

TheVampiresWife · 11/04/2021 16:53

@IloveJKRowling

Jesus, we've had 150,000 dead. Tiny numbers can and do grow into large numbers very quickly with this - we were here last summer.

Do you people want a vaccine resistant variant to emerge and a 4th wave? I guess you do.

Social distancing is really the least difficult thing to do in all of this.

Social distancing means that many pubs, venues, restaurants etc can't reopen at all because it's not financially viable. It means there are no gigs, and theatres can't open. Livelihoods have been lost to social distancing and will continue to be lost for as long as this goes on. So yes, it is difficult.

And a vaccine resistant strain could emerge at any point - this year, next year, in ten years. How long do you propose SD continue for, just in case?

loulouljh · 11/04/2021 16:56

noW!! That said most supermarkets near to where I live no longer have queues or one way systems thank goodness...

TheVampiresWife · 11/04/2021 16:58

@Jellybaby4

I have no idea why so many ppl are so keen for things to return to normal, People getting to close, pushing and shoving, barging in to shops all at once, its horrible. The social distancing is a far better strategy for everything.
Why do people not realise that social distancing isn't just queuing a metre apart at Tesco? Why are people so desperate to cling onto it, when millions of people's livelihoods/thousands of cultural venues and pubs, restaurants etc are at risk of permanent closure because of it? And no hugging anyone from a different household?

Who are these people who relish the idea of a future without plays, gigs, meals out and human contact, because it's safer that way?

Fembot123 · 11/04/2021 17:00

God knows, it’s no kind of life but loads of them seem to dwell here.

This. Don't with all this, too. Stay home and lock up if you want to. I've had influenza 4 times. Fuck, humans should just all fucking 'social distance' forever. Not.

Bluebird2021 · 11/04/2021 17:02

meals out start back on monday dont they?

Totally agree, these are small things which make a big difference if adhered to. Why is it such a big problem for people.
Fembot123 · 11/04/2021 17:13

Outsdoors if they are lucky enough to have the space
TheVampiresWife · 11/04/2021 17:14

If the venue you're going to has sufficient outside space to serve them. And is able to be deemed covid secure. And has sufficient internet access in outside spaces to take care payments/implement t&t, which a lot of rural pubs, for example, do not.

If it weren't for SD, none of that would be an issue. Because of SD, venues which can't meet these requirements cannot open.

IloveJKRowling · 11/04/2021 17:16

This is just not true: polio, measles, smallpox - we don't have very much of any of these because of vaccination.

If we can get on top of this via vaccination we can deal with small outbreaks and the chance of variants won't be there.

Variants can only take off if there are high levels of infection and the means for them to do so - the more we crowd together now, the longer it's going to take to get back to normal.

Many, many, many scientists have said the greater the level of infection, the more risk of variants. Keep infections low, the risk is low.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/04/2021 17:21

Carry on social distancing and stay at home then, Ilove, the rest of us should be allowed to carry on in a way resembling normal life.

ImAlrightThanx · 11/04/2021 17:21

@KurtWilde

And if I read one more post about why should kids be in shops I'll lose my shit. If you're so fussed about kids in shops why don't YOU buy your stuff online??
This. FFS, kids are part of society and deserve to learn how to function in it.
ilovesooty · 11/04/2021 17:25

@Blossomplease6

The point of this really was to just try and find out if all the queuing and social distancing would be dropped in June, as that was my understanding. Not to discuss the reasons for it.
Given the announcements and briefing to date I don't think restrictions regarding masks and social distancing will be over in June and I won't be surprised if they're with us until next spring at least.
Brindisi32 · 11/04/2021 17:27

I'm stunned so many people are still queueing to get into supermarkets. There's been scant restrictions around our area. The last place i was in i had a couple of women queuing behind me without masks and not socially distancing.

Dolciedolly · 11/04/2021 18:13

Shopping is not enjoyable toilets not open got told to get 2 metres back and wear a mask outside ... stupid I won't be going shopping will go online

Chickenriceandpeas · 11/04/2021 18:16

Those of you who think social distancing will go beyond June, what happens with stuff like festivals and nightclubs that are all assuming they can go ahead from then (festivals selling tickets etc)? Will they all get cancelled/have to remain closed? Cos there’s no way in hell you can social distance at either! Imagine going to a club all staying 2m apart - it just can’t work!

Dolciedolly · 11/04/2021 18:17

@Bluebird2021

As a retail manager I can tell you we are still complying with covid audits

We still have a duty to protect our staff

So letting everyone in at once won’t be happening and queues will have to remain for now

Yep I won't be going shopping

That's what I'm expecting. Very surprised any festivals are going ahead. I really really really want to be wrong.

Then speak to the person manning the queue if it’s an issue“

Fair point. I’d have no problem at all, you and your child going in ahead of me. Perfectly understandable.
