When will it end? June? I have a child with SEN and all the queueing to get in everywhere and dancing around people In shops and staying behind lines is making it impossible to take him out.

Children who randomly skip around shops into the paths of other shoppers (who are looking where they are going) are a trip hazard. And this is not even to do with Covid - your child shouldn't be barging into other people because they are not looking where they are going. A shop is not a playground.

Annoying but not half as annoying as the kid in M&S last week on a bloody scooter! Mum kept telling her to 'look where you're going' in a pathetic voice. I felt like saying 'never mind her looking where she's going, don't let her use a fucking scooter in a shop!' Obviously I didn't, I just a avoided the aisles they were in!

@Blossomplease6

I just don’t understand at what point we will be able to stop. It might seem a minor thing for some but my child can not cope, it’s like the straw that broke the camels back.
But why does your child need to go in the shops? Surely there are more interesting things to do?

Not everyone who wants to be us vaccinated, those that mostly have only had one vaccination.

The more transmission, the more chance of ending up with a vaccine escaping variant

We had lower numbers in August last year & look how quickly the cases/deaths rose. Yes we are in a better place with more vaccinations now, but that may not count fir much if we allow a vaccine avoidant variant to mutate.

Social distancing and masks/washing hands/ventilation is not a big ask.

SpnBaby1967 · 11/04/2021 15:25

I still dont understand why people are so scared of a virus whereby for the vast majority will be nothing worse than a bad cold.

As with any illness some people will be worse off, some will die. My friends 4 year old almost died of chicken pox! It's sad for those families sure, but in the grand scheme of the virus it's still rare.

We've had what, 4 million cases in over 12 months. That means 62 million people havent caught it. 62 MILLION!!! I could understand the terror if it was 30 million cases and a 20% death rate but it isnt.

We've vaccinated more people than have ever caught covid.

Even taking into account those that end up with post viral syndrome is still what, 100,000 people? That's not even 1%! I had post viral syndrome after glandular fever so I know it's awful but come on, why the terror??

MSM have done a bloody good job is all I can say.

Let's get back to normality. No stupid rags over our faces, no antisocial distancing, no unnecessary queue systems. If you get covid, fine. 1-2 weeks off work for most people will sort them out. Bit like catching flu, or norovirus, or a cold etc.

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 11/04/2021 15:32

*work in an essential shop and although we can take precautions, it is not full proof due to cash handling

has there been a single documented case of anyone catching covid from handling cash?*

Is this serious? Money is among the dirtiest unhygienic things ever alongside toilet seats and mobile phones. It wasn't just cash handling, it's being in a customer faced role where not many people are wearing masks etc.

Supermarkets, care homes and hospitals are the places most rife for transmission. But now we have vaccines and the risk is so small from serious illness and death, all these measures shouldn't have to be put in place, well not for long anyway.

RedcurrantPuff · 11/04/2021 15:33

Agree with every word but your wasting your breath unfortunately.

The media have done an extremely good job at scaring people. There is no common sense, rational thinking any longer in our society.

Now the goverment are wanting the economy back up and running again, its going to be hard to do a U turn to a nation who have been scared into submission.

I mean look at Astrazenca. 3 in 1 million chance of blood cot. But yet people take the contraception pill with 5-12 chance in every 10 thousand.

Insanity.

No why are you?Confused

Woopywoopwoo · 11/04/2021 15:39

I take it all those people working from home that are moaning about it not being safe to go back to the office will be saying clear of the shops?

Woopywoopwoo · 11/04/2021 15:40

Pressed to soon, all those people who want some normality and all that?

AmelieTaylor · 11/04/2021 15:45

Woods/parks...

Frankly watching paint dry is an improvement on shopping for most kids. They don't need to go in shops. There's nothing you can't get online.

MargosKaftan · 11/04/2021 15:47

I love the "but why do children need to be in shops?" comments when the OP has said she's a full-time working single mother.

We still aren't at a point where its ok to have playdates or leave dcs with grandparents.

Single parents need food too!

KurtWilde · 11/04/2021 15:48

We all had covid and it was milder than most viruses we've ever had. Yet a few years back my youngest had an extremely severe immune response to a common cold. Every single virus carries a risk for someone somewhere.

I totally understand some are still terrified of this bug, but we simply cannot put our lives on hold for the minority anymore. Millions of elderly and vulnerable have been vaccinated, if that isn't the cue to let us crack on then nothing will be.

Blossomplease6 · 11/04/2021 15:49

@AmelieTaylor
But why does your child need to go in the shops? Surely there are more interesting things to do?

I thought it was clear from my posts he doesn’t like going to shops so obviously I’m not taking him for a day out or an interesting thing to do 😂
What a bizarre comment

OP posts:
KurtWilde · 11/04/2021 15:50

And if I read one more post about why should kids be in shops I'll lose my shit. If you're so fussed about kids in shops why don't YOU buy your stuff online??

Blossomplease6 · 11/04/2021 15:53

@AmelieTaylor can you honestly not imagine why I ever might need to go to a shop even though I try to order online as much as possible?
Sometimes I don’t have £40 to do an online shop. I might only need a few bits. I might have forgotten some things. I might not be able to get a delivery slot. I might not have been organised enough to meal plan for every single thing I might need for the foreseeable.

It's not like kids are getting all excited at the prospect of a wander round Asda to buy bread and milk FFS Grin

(Although, my 8 year old is obsessed with our local co-op as has been for years. So much so that in 2018 the store manager gave her a private tour behind the scenes. I've never seen her so happy )

KurtWilde · 11/04/2021 15:58

It's a pretty sad state of affairs but I know a lot of kids who are actually thrilled at the prospect of a quick wander round Asda now. There's a sense of normalcy to it and let's face it in this weather it's far more enjoyable than walking round the park!

No one should have to defend their reasons for taking their kids shopping ffs.

1-2 weeks off formats people eh?

soooo with this line of thinking, as retail and sales assistants are in the most 'at risk' group of occupations, with highest elevated risk of death.....along with healthcare and other people facing occupations....who is going to be serving you as retail workers go off sick or to die?

(just so you don't have to queue or wear a mask or just keep your bloody distances inconvenient for you)

This!!! Lots of people have no choice but to take their kids. My 5yr old came to lidl this morning with me because he is so bored. It is freezing cold and wet here! I didn't take him in a supermarket from march til about november last year and when I did he was so overwhelmed. So yeah now I take him so he can experience normal life now and again!
Chickenriceandpeas · 11/04/2021 16:18

@AmelieTaylor you know not everyone lives by woods & parks, right? And even if they did, they still might have to get something to eat at some point? Jesus.

SpnBaby1967 · 11/04/2021 16:20

@Bluebird2021

Given that CV clearly isnt as infectious as the MSM would have us believe I'd wager the rest of the staff!

I had CV, slept in bed with DH and still hugged my kids and not one of them caught it. If it was that infectious there would have been WAY more than 4 million cases and vast amounts of that was hospital transmission. We already know hospitals are virus hotbeds, look what happens every winter with norovirus!

If you're too scared to work youre welcome to quit and give someone else your job.

Timper · 11/04/2021 16:20

Where the hell do you all live that you’re still queuing to get into shops and still following one way systems? I’m in Scotland and the only time I’ve queued to get into a shop was a Markies on Christmas Eve. One way systems were done away with roughly summer last year.

Woopywoopwoo · 11/04/2021 16:25

My 9 year olds all excited to spend her birthday money. We need to wait another two weeks though in Scotland. I work in retail fashion behind the scenes. So we are going to be busy busy with all the English shops opening tomorrow
