Social distancing and queueing in shops

When will it end? June? I have a child with SEN and all the queueing to get in everywhere and dancing around people In shops and staying behind lines is making it impossible to take him out.

OP posts:
@AmelieTaylor I just re-read my posts. I didn’t make it sound like a trip out.

I work in a nursery, no protection. We just get on with it, we don’t live in fear. This can not just go on forever. We need to live with it, most shop workers are not going to die of covid because people didn’t queue to get in the shop.
Well scientist think it presents a risk to have too many people in one space at one time and common sense tells you that too. But hey, who cares about shop staff? So long as people don't have to wait 🤷🏻‍♀️

...and no, I don't work in a shop. I just care about other people forced to work in less safe spaces because people don't want to wait or wear masks.

HalzTangz · 11/04/2021 23:31

If I recall Boris's road map correctly his words were MOST restrictions will be fully lifted by 21st June. I fully expect him to say masks to remain, and 2m reduced to 1m

HalzTangz · 11/04/2021 23:34

Same here, I've not queued to get in any shop since the first lockdown

But I need to hug my friends and get back to my theatre group.

@Blossomplease6

*I still dont understand why people are so scared of a virus whereby for the vast majority will be nothing worse than a bad cold.

As with any illness some people will be worse off, some will die. My friends 4 year old almost died of chicken pox! It's sad for those families sure, but in the grand scheme of the virus it's still rare.

We've had what, 4 million cases in over 12 months. That means 62 million people havent caught it. 62 MILLION!!! I could understand the terror if it was 30 million cases and a 20% death rate but it isnt.

We've vaccinated more people than have ever caught covid.

Even taking into account those that end up with post viral syndrome is still what, 100,000 people? That's not even 1%! I had post viral syndrome after glandular fever so I know it's awful but come on, why the terror??*

This

OP there have been 4 million people tested positive out of 65 mill, testing didn't start until may/June time, no one has a dicky boo clue how many not tested cases there are.

Also have you had COVID? My fit and healthy 21 year old has had it, I can assure you it's more than just a bad cold.

You make a lot of excuses why you can't shop, why not make excuses why you can. You say you can't go after work because of routine, why can't you go in your dinner break. If your child can't handle queues see if he/she can stay with a friend or family member whilst you pop to the shop. There's always solutions for those that want to find them

I think you need to listen to the news more, the whole reason the mask rule came out was because of the high number of retail workers catching and dying from COVID

HalzTangz · 12/04/2021 00:00
@ilovesooty Don't forget all (that's ALL) covid restrictions end in June!
Actually you're wrong, Boris said we hope to lift Most restrictions by June 21st, he never said ALL

HalzTangz · 12/04/2021 00:03

You might get back to a theatre group, I wouldn't hold my breathe on hugging people. This thing is far from over. Scientists on news O'Day predicting 3rd wave, and that's after millions been vaccinated

KurtWilde · 12/04/2021 00:10

@HalzTangz we all had covid, even my 80yo aunt said she'd had worse colds. My younger DC barely knew they had it, not much more than a cold, my asthmatic adult DS had no issues, and I'm mid forties and I've felt far worse with flu. The worst bit was not being able to taste my coffee! Yes, we all had positive tests I'm not just guessing we had it btw.

And for the MAJORITY this is how it presents. Of course there's exceptions but that's true for ALL viruses. Now the elderly and vulnerable are well on their way to being protected by the vaccine, it's time to crack on and start getting back to normal.

They end "no earlier" than June 21st.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 12/04/2021 07:46

@Keepyourdistance000

Hopefully vets will return to allowing clients in to the surgeries after June, and GPs will again routinely offer face to face appointments.
Agreed, it makes no logical sense that I can see my dentist, have my haircut and a manicure but my GPs are only doing telephone appointments. I understood this pre vaccines and when case numbers were high but now they need to start seeing their patients or many more people will die from things other than Covid.

Not the case. Most, not all and not SD or masks as they have said those will be reviewed.
If cases rise in Autumn after all the mixing, things will be restricted again.

Surely it's easy though. If you want to hug, you just hug. Works for me!
StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 12/04/2021 10:50

Do people really think that most people, especially the young who have very little to fear from the virus, will really continue to not hug their friends, start new relationships etc? That it's not absolutely ridiculous and cruel for the very elderly to spend their last months and years isolated without human touch and hugging their families?

People have been prepared to sacrifice an awful lot over the past year but there's a limit as to how long they'll continue doing it for. You do realise social distancing is so much more than keeping 2m apart in the Sainsbury's queue? It's the death of the hospitality industry, it's telling people that they can't hug their families and friends, start new relationships. Just live a normal bloody life.

Boris and his cronies will listen to whoever is shouting the loudest- let's not pretend for one second that this government ever wanted to trash the economy so I really think that will start becoming the main priority for them- pubs and restaurants couldn't sustain more restrictions in the autumn. Especially when the government can point to the vaccination programme etc, and especially when the more this goes on, the louder voices are likely to be from those opposing restrictions. The balance will have to flip and those who want to shut themselves away and never hug a friend again, well crack on, but don't expect that everyone else will continue existing living like it.

RedcurrantPuff · 12/04/2021 10:55

Scientists and the government have no right to tell us not to hug people

Absolutely absurd that we are continuing to tolerate this nonsense.

RedcurrantPuff · 12/04/2021 10:57

Start hugging your friends now. What’s anyone going to do about it?

I certainly have not, nor have most people I know.
moochingtothepub · 12/04/2021 14:49

To be honest I've not seen queues here since June - apart from primark this am. Lidl is very easy going in particular

moochingtothepub · 12/04/2021 14:52

Actually tell a lie, Costa has long queues but that's down to my towns obsession with coffee - there's 5 retailers of take away coffee within 2 mins walk and all will have 20 people queuing on a Saturday - we make our own and put in cups!

Most people are hugging whoever needs or wants a hug. It was wise not to last Xmas/New Year but cases are low now and many are vaccinated.
