Settling down for the duration on a comfy sofa with crisps 😃😃

BigWoollyJumpers · 11/03/2021 15:08

Lets start with:

We are now 18th in Worldometers list for cases and dropping
We are now 12th for deaths and (finally and thankfully) dropping
We continue to be 3rd/4th in the world for vaccinations on several different metrics

Sitting in my dining room, looking out to the garden, full of blossom and daffs, the wind is blowing, the hail is lashing down, the sun is shining, and there is a rainbow. I love Spring Grin.

Marking my place. Thanks woolly

Wherediditgo · 11/03/2021 15:54

Placemarking- haven’t seen you guys for a while and my how I’ve suffered as a result Sad

Bordois · 11/03/2021 15:59

Its nearly "hit refresh" o'clock

Bordois · 11/03/2021 16:05

So a small increase in cases compared to last week, but considering the massive increase in testing its not too bad.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 11/03/2021 16:05

We managed to be 21st for deaths a few days ago- ok it was the weekend low, but still, I’d never seen anything like it.
In case that sounds flippant, an acquaintance lost her mum to covid the other day (her mum was not in the UK) and it really brings it home how precious and important every single life saved is and how wonderful it is that vaccine development has been so successful.

someone on another thread tipped me off that if you select England on cases it shows you how many of these are Lateral flow tests. Basically a LOT this week due to schools return. If you look at how many positive PCRs this week compared to last week it's way down

3 days in a row there have been around 1,000 positive LFDs. Some have been converted to positive PCRs, in the case of Monday's specimen tests, about a quarter have.

BigWoollyJumpers · 11/03/2021 16:10

Good Vaccines day:

First dose 243,887
Second dose 97,162 (most ever)
Total First dose 23,053,716
Total Second dose 1,351,515

Testing has absolutely skyrocketed.

That's really interesting, thank you.

frazzled that's interesting. Hopefully then the LFTs are picking up and reducing any spread in schools? So after next week the number of positive LFTs should reduce....
can we see anywhere the percentage of total tests which are positive?

Inastatus · 11/03/2021 16:17

Hi everyone. I’m feeling a bit rough after my vaccine yesterday. Very achey and hot but shivery. I guess it just shows it’s working though and gives me an excuse to sit on my bum and browse MN 😊

BigWoollyJumpers · 11/03/2021 16:29

inastatus Sorry to hear that. Hope it passes quickly.

Well done West Country :

An estimated 88.9 per cent of people aged 60 and over in England have now received their first dose of Covid-19 vaccines, with south-west England having the highest proportion at 98.7 per cent!

@Inastatus. Good news that you’ve had your vaccine. I’m getting mine on Saturday, told DH that he may have to do cooking on Sunday (Mothers Day). He said well that’s takeaway then.
