@Autumn101

Lots of good news, thanks all!

I have some personal good news, DH gets his first Pfizer vaccine on Tuesday (he’s not in U.K.) and his second booked in for 21 days after. Then he can travel to see us! The country he’s in have very strict quarantine so visits have been tricky. Once he’s vaccinated it makes things so much easier. We haven’t seen him for over 2 months now so knowing he could be here in 4 weeks feels amazing.

That is brilliant. Things must have been so hard for you. Definitely good news that will make it easier for him to visit

Super number today 🥳🥳🥳

It's beginning Grin

MadisonAvenue · 14/03/2021 18:08

@Mrsorganmorgan

Had my second Pfizer vaccine yesterday (over 75 South Wales) my first was 2nd Feb, so a much shorter time between shots.
My mother in law is in South Wales, she’s in the 70-74 age group and gets her second one next week.
KikoMiko · 14/03/2021 18:08

Waiting in the car for DH now. We're at a mass vaccine centre and the organisation is very impressive. Up on a hill and blowing a hooly though!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/03/2021 18:23

Anecdotally, a lot of people seem to be having it today given it’s a Sunday...

tobee · 14/03/2021 22:27

Suddenly everyone I know slight exaggeration has a booking for this week! Smile

Disclaimer:- we are all oldsters of 50 plus.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 14/03/2021 23:10

Well that is marvellous

It does feel like tons of people have appointments this week and next. Those vaccination numbers should be very impressive ❤

TeaInTheGarden · 15/03/2021 08:09

Help! My mum is booked for vaccine today but considering deferring due to other countries suspending the AZ vaccine.
She is a very intelligent woman so this is bizarre and I’m now freaking out as I obviously really want her to have it!!
I’ve sent her links from AZ, and the MHRA response on the gov.uk website....

MadisonAvenue · 15/03/2021 08:25

@TeaInTheGarden Coronavirus Good News on Twitter posted this:
The UK has given over 10 million doses of both the Oxford and Pfizer vaccine.
Number of blood clot related events:
Oxford = 13
Pfizer = 15
These numbers are no higher than what is seen in the general population (no increased risk).

EasterIssland · 15/03/2021 08:43

Thailand is restarting the AstraZeneca vaccination programme. The first one that will get vaccinated will be the prime minister

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/03/2021 08:44

17 million people had AZ some far in Europe. Under 40 blood clot cases reported. No evidence of a connection.

AZ have again last week told EU its next delivery will be short. Vaccination roll out being slow is causing unrest in some countries. Do the maths!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/03/2021 08:49

Better to say stopping vaccination out of safety concerns than because we have miss management the buying etc

Other countries outside the EU just freaked seeing EU do this and panicked.

TeaInTheGarden · 15/03/2021 09:21

Thank you- I’ve sent her all this. She’s just worried that these countries must know something we don’t. A John Campbell link seems to have reassured her a bit....

Will he take his shirt off?
EasterIssland · 15/03/2021 09:45

TheCountessofFitzdotterel that's the king :D

Seeing the EU do what? The EU recommended NOT to stop using it.

A few individual countries within the EU are following their own safety procedures (and will almost certainly be using it again within two weeks.) Remember Norway pausing was one of the ones that caused the most stir and they're not even in the EU!

EasterIssland · 15/03/2021 09:52

Despite Norway is not EU they're buying with the EU. Same as Iceland

JemimaPyjamas · 15/03/2021 11:50

@EasterIssland I am hopefully going to Thailand in the summer - it's currently 50/50 mind but I am trying to be hopeful! They seem to have been a bit crap on the vaccine front and there is lots of confusion about potential quarantine (cutting from 15 days to 10 days if not vaccinated to 7 days if vaccinated but possibly three days etc etc.) Infuriating!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/03/2021 11:50

@NewLevelsOfTiredness Sorry I meant to say some countries within the EU. I was rushing to get out the house. Thank you for the correct

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/03/2021 11:51

*correction Grin

EasterIssland · 15/03/2021 11:52

@JemimaPyjamas I love Thailand! I think summer might be difficult but end of year should be opened to the tourism. hope yoou can go and enjoy it!

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 15/03/2021 12:08

I lost this thread glad I've found it again.

My mum has had both shots of Pfizer now.

My dad will have his 2nd AZ in April.

Me and OH now had 1st Pfizer.

It's feeling like we are getting there now

fadingfast · 15/03/2021 17:16

If like me you are concerned by reports about the AZ vaccine, I have just read a short article by Florian Krammer, a renowned virologist specialising in vaccines who I’ve been following on Twitter for a while.

He says in the article that he still recommends getting the AZ vaccine if you are offered it. He also says that pandemics with respiratory viruses typically last 1.5 to 2 years, and he is convinced that it will end in the summer (by which I think I think he means this summer!). He is generally cautious and well balanced, so coming from him I think this counts as very good news.
