Any idea when the vaccines might start for this group and how they'll be divided up ? It's a big group !

Well, they are whizzing through group 4 now. Given that there are plenty of vaccines and more huge hubs opening, I would guess probably within a month.

MiraWard1 · 01/02/2021 08:10

I think it's regional. I'm group 6 and was done yesterday (after a text on Saturday evening). Our local health centre seems to have whizzed through everyone else and had enough left to start on 'the flu jab list'.

For which I am ever grateful.

chestnutSquash · 01/02/2021 08:11

The online booking system is designed to offer slots to people who are eligible in order of priority.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 01/02/2021 08:12

Which region is that? (If you don't mind saying)

Mindymomo · 01/02/2021 08:12

Group 5 is quite small, so I would have thought Group 6 will be included along with that. 5 and 6 have roughly the same numbers as 1-4 and seeing that they are on course to do all 1-4 before 15 Feb, the next group should follow soon. Some Group 5 people are already being called.

justwanttoknow21 · 01/02/2021 08:15

@MiraWard1 that's so cool ! Where are you? Do you mind sharing some details about which condition you have ? You don't need to specify if uncomfortable. Perhaps just an idea- for example Neurological or lung or whatever it might be. Totally up to you though. I understand if you're not comfortable. Thanks !

I'm group 4 (CEV) and was done last weekend. My surgery have asked for permission to move onto groups 5 & 6 which is my parents and PIL, I'm ecstatic Halo

MiraWard1 · 01/02/2021 11:27

It's a small part of the SW (and they went to great pains to say that the next area over were nowhere near as good as them!)

I've got mild asthma and get a flu jab. It was all over the local social media on Saturday when people like me started getting the text.

Point is, if our little area are there already, others can't be far behind. Though it did seem to be related to the pfizer vax shelf life.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 01/02/2021 11:28

Interesting that mild asthma put you in group 6 and you've had your jab. There's been a lot of debate recently about whether mild asthma counts for group 6. Looks like we have our answer! Yay!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 01/02/2021 11:32

I understood that Asthma UK clarified that people with asthma who have a preventer inhaler (brown one) will be group 6. Interesting to see as I'm that group but presumed I wouldn't be called up. London though, so probably behind other areas!

HavfrueDenizKisi · 01/02/2021 11:32

Asthma uk clarified with the government apparently.

justwanttoknow21 · 01/02/2021 12:09

That's brilliant to hear that some group 6 are being vaccinated already. I wonder how they'll prioritise group 6. Sounds sensible to vaccinate people with asthma, even if mild.

Cookerhood · 01/02/2021 12:12

I didn't realise group 6 included asthma. I don't have a brown inhaler but DS does, so great news if he gets the call.

Cookerhood · 01/02/2021 12:13

Although I am on the flu list probably due to have a brown inhaler once 15 years ago & a blue inhaler "just in case". Will those on the flu list get called?

ofwarren · 01/02/2021 12:15

Just started group 6 here on the Fylde coast North West England.
Having mine tomorrow as a carer.

Hmmph · 01/02/2021 12:15

I have “mild” asthma, but my surgery has refused to give me the flu jab for the last couple of years as they say it’s only for bad asthma. I doubt they’ll let me have the covid jab either :(

MiraWard1 · 01/02/2021 12:29

I'd describe it as mild, but who knows how it's categorised in my notes.

Our health centre was onto the "flu jab list" at that point on Saturday night. But it could be subtle flexing because they had a batch of Pfizer to deliver and couldn't get enough of the other groups to fill the spaces (speculation, of course). We had the text through on Saturday evening for Sunday vaccination. No time to arrange transport, help etc if you're quite frail, etc. I assume we got lucky with a batch expiring today. I imagine there are more vulnerable people still to be caught up with.

My DS has bad asthma, takes steroid inhaler daily, still showing as Ineligible on the NHS booking system.

Guess I have to wait to see if my GP flags his file appropriately?
And call them if they don't?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 01/02/2021 12:36

They haven't officially announced group 6 yet so that's why you can't book through the online link. They haven't actually announced group 5 either I don't think.

TheDogsMother · 01/02/2021 12:43

@HavfrueDenizKisi

Ooh this is good news. I thought it was only severe asthma for group 6 so this will move me up two groups.
Boulshired · 01/02/2021 12:43

At some point between groups 5&6 there will need to be a lag when the 2nd doses take priority. So as group 6 is huge it could well be a long time period. At present it seems to be 5&6 are filling gaps at short notice.

Just responding since a pp said in their area they had started on Group 6 already. They must know who is in Group 6 for this to be possible. It is also a group that isn't age-limited so it is more of a case of being invited based on your GP's discretion/assessment/opinion/competence at correctly flagging your record.

I don't think it is a given. I have a combi inhaler, get flu vaccine and am group 9. Guidance on asthma changed so only those who needed steroids were given priority.
2boysand1princess · 01/02/2021 12:49

What actually is a carer?
My sister has a child who is vulnerable (autism and mental health) she cares for her obviously unpaid. Does she qualify for a vaccine under group 6 as a cater?

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 01/02/2021 12:58

Im surprised about the mild asthma beibg called. From a few threads on here it seems it must be at gps discretion?

Asthma uk on their website said they had thought it was group 6 but were seeking clarification. Notes elsewhere say sever asthma. So it isn't clearcut yet.

Im curious about carer to. I get carers allowance for autistic daughter but elsewhere it looked like carer for ecv person.
