To all those covid deniers and mask refusers out there.

I have just had a phone call from my cousin and I am totally shaken. Her husband has died from Covid this morning. He was 48, a big strong bear of a man and has done manual outside work all his working life. He tested positive last Friday. I can't believe it. The only places he has been indoors is home and he collected a prescription for his MIL the previous Monday. He had two children 12 and 14. The whole family is devastated.

This is not the flu.

I'm very sorry for your loss but your post makes no sense.

Your cousin's husband was very very careful and still caught it and died. So how can 'taking it seriously' make any difference to anyone?

I have to agree. Very, very sorry for your loss, just awful. Most people are taking it seriously but unfortunately do need to go out for food, work, prescriptions etc.
Delatron · 20/01/2021 12:02

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry if I do not understand the timeline or I am misunderstanding. So he tested positive last Friday and died 5 days later?

Terrible. Was he working or meant to be shielding?

I don’t know anyone who isn’t “taking it seriously”

It’s still spreading.

I know several people who are severely mentally ill - sectioned/in bed - more in fact than I know who have suffered from covid.

I don’t deny covid is horrific and real but I’m watching people now collapse of other things and this worries me more. Far more

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 20/01/2021 12:11

You don’t even know how he caught it!!! Your post doesn’t sound good.

Supermarkets are where it’s speeding up here - everyone is in masks. Everyone. It is still spreading

SquidInALid · 20/01/2021 12:11

I'm so sorry. You must be devastated. Thank you for sharing.
FFS what's with grilling the OP about accuracy and blame. She's just been bereaved.

Delatron · 20/01/2021 12:13

I’m not grilling. I had no idea that you could go downhill so quickly after testing positive. Thanks for sharing OP and sorry for your loss. What a shock.

I'm sorry for your loss and I appreciate you are still hurting snd in shock but you honestly have absolutely no eay of knowing that the person he caught it from wasn't following the rules. For you to imply that the person he caught it from had it because they were not s rule follower is disingenuous and ubfiar. You are still able to catch the virus even if you follow every rule to the letter.

HairyFloppins · 20/01/2021 12:15

I think some people can spread it before they have symptoms.

We have all been very careful but we all still got it.

It's a very nasty virus and is very random about who it takes down.

Sorry to hear of your families loss

lovelemoncurd · 20/01/2021 12:17

It's a shock but reiterate others views here. It's a stage of grief. You are finding someone to direct the anger at.

I would suggest the blond mop haired loser currently in the Houses of Parliament!

Chill08 · 20/01/2021 12:18

Omg give the poor op a break! What shocking news i'm so sorry for your loss.

borntohula · 20/01/2021 12:18

Flu is also a killer and should be taken seriously in case anyone has it and was thinking 'it's just the flu, it'll be fine to spread.'

salmonskinjerky · 20/01/2021 12:18

I am so sorry OP.

And some of the replies you're getting are bizarre. A lot of people on here are so ready to challenge/accuse/take issue with posts like yours (perhaps a way of dealing with feeling unsettled by them) that they can't even respond in a human way.

Haenow · 20/01/2021 12:21

I’m sorry for your loss. Flowers It’s sad and shocking and scary.
I am shielding, so taking it more seriously than most. I know you’re hurting but you don’t know that the person he caught it off wasn’t being careful. Everyone should be as kind as possible in these difficult times.

I am so sorry for your loss. I too am fed up of those who are "invincible" and don't need to socially distance or wear a mask.

Because the more people who dont take it seriously the more it will spread. Is this so difficult to understand? This poor man was so careful and was horrifically unlucky. But there are also people who are refusing to distance and are still in and out of each others homes. Like one of my family members who lives with her parents. But has been staying at her new boyfriends house who lives with friends because " He looks healthy. Its fine" Angry

If this post reaches and changes the behaviour of just one person then its worth posting

Totaldick · 20/01/2021 12:31

That is such scary and horrifying news! I am very sorry. My mum told me today she's got it, 1st person I know in RL to have it. Life sucks and it's so hard to stay positive and enjoy each day but I guess situations like this highlight we must try. Tomorrow is promised to no one has never been truer. Flowers
