It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

@stairway

Both primary and nursery are shutting in my village which has very low rates . We were told at 5pm today with no key worker provision. I still have to go to work tomorrow. I’m not very impressed to be honest.
Eek that’s not on. Shock
hettyhooverdoover · 03/01/2021 19:04

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

It is. We've got 5 working hours tomorrow to get packs out to 500 kids. One photocopier.
Our school sent them home with them at end of term just in case. However its a very small school so not many to produce.
kowari · 03/01/2021 19:05

@frizzyandfrazzled

Our school in Tier 4 (Lancashire) closed from tomorrow to all but key worker kids who attended last lockdown. Our children will go to grandparents. We are both key workers (I think - the definition of local government workers is vague) but I worked full time from home last lockdown - tomorrow I start my new job in the office/community 🙈
What a silly stance from the school, it's been months since the last lockdown, circumstances change.
AlandAnna · 03/01/2021 19:07

Obviously if there are cases in school it will be closed for key workers. Otherwise I would expect some sort of provision. Obviously school isn’t childcare blah blah but some parents obviously follow a career that works around children being accounted during the day and become needed by work...

Yorkshire schools staying open

itsgettingweird · 03/01/2021 19:08

@wonderstuff

Nothing communicated so I'm assuming our primary in north Hampshire is going to be open tomorrow. Can't see it staying that way for long.
Cases in north Hampshire are really high I thought?

I'm south of county and ours are nearly 4 times what they were at end of last term.

redamancy · 03/01/2021 19:09

I’m in Birmingham - our school is partially closing due to staffing numbers. One of my children will be returning tomorrow, the others will be staying at home.

Royaldada · 03/01/2021 19:10

Just an update - Just received an email from DDs School saying that only opened for critical workers and vulnerable children from Tuesday but nothing from DSs SN school

Mooey89 · 03/01/2021 19:10

Majority of schools closing in my area of Portsmouth

Char2015 · 03/01/2021 19:12

The DfE has definitely lost control.

DeathMetalMum · 03/01/2021 19:12

Our local council Cheshire West and Chester have just posted all schools will be open as usual as per government advice. We are tier 4 however our rate isn't as high as other tier 4 regions. We have an inset day tomorrow thankfully, so if the government decides another u-turn they might not go back after all.

MummytoCSJH · 03/01/2021 19:14

We've had a letter saying open as normal but then a further one this evening saying due to possible lack of staff (caused by union action) it could be as late as dropping them off that we are told to take them home. I have to leave school straight away to get to somewhere I need to be. I'm going to be screwed if they do close as I can't take DS with me. I'd rather they just say they're closed now so I can arrange something else as by the time I get there it's too late to get him elsewhere and still get to where I need to be on time.

itsgettingweird · 03/01/2021 19:14

My local primary. Ds old school.

Very well worded I thought.

Only looked because it doesn't affect us now ds is older than primary and wanted to see what schools were saying.

Applaud the head though. Always did have a lot of respect for him when ds was there.

LadyCatStark · 03/01/2021 19:14

This is actually worse than a complete government U Turn: no one knows what the hell is going on!

RememberSelfCompassion · 03/01/2021 19:15

Our school just sent a text saying they're open. I guess I'll hear tomorrow if they're cross we're staying home.

MummytoCSJH · 03/01/2021 19:15

In tier 3 here by the way. I fully support the teachers and if they feel unsafe they should do what they need to. It's the last minute that I can't deal with!

Randomschoolworker19 · 03/01/2021 19:16

Just recieved notice from work that we're closing due to too many staff invoking Section 44. I wasn't one of them but I can understand why so many did. It depends on your circumstances.

Whattheactual20201 · 03/01/2021 19:16

Our school is shut due to being in London but they are against schools closures and covid in general... my daughter hasn’t been in all year because they really didn’t restrict anything.

Ohdoleavemealone · 03/01/2021 19:16

@DeathMetalMum where did you see that? DH thougtt get he heard on the radio that they were closing but couldn't find it online!

Sadless · 03/01/2021 19:17

I am in Lancashire school Is due to open on Tuesday for my son but it's a special school so will more then likely stay open.

Watchingbehindmyhands · 03/01/2021 19:17

Local Facebook shows 4 closures but more open than closed

TigerDragonMonkey · 03/01/2021 19:17

Lancashire here. Received an email 2 hours ago informing us that the school will be closed tomorrow. I’m in a fortunate position as I’m a student and set my own hours, and DH and I have both been working from home anyway, but I feel for the families that are expected at work tomorrow Sad. I would have coped with keeping mine at home longer if it meant school could stay open to more kids, it just seems crazy that either everyone must go in or else get fined or no one can!

TheGreatWave · 03/01/2021 19:18

This is like the old school snow closures on Radio WM. Will your school be closed, will your school be open? Not on this list so will have to listen to the next announcement. The excitement, the nail biting, the sighs from our parents. It's like the good old days again.

Anyway, PD day tomorrow for us, I guess by tomorrow things will be a little clearer.

Heck who am I kidding, this shit show will rumble on. Though it does seem the U4T are losing ground on this one, the petition to keep schools open isn't really pulling in the support they wanted.

mstumble · 03/01/2021 19:20

As if it isn't bad enough to amidst an out of control virus, but to have a bunch of spineless idiots governing our country at the same time is almost unbearable. I've never felt so angry. We need answers! And sensible ones!

Cheator · 03/01/2021 19:21

We had an email in the last hour saying primary school closed for at least two weeks.
North west close to Liverpool. Key worker places will be available.

I am lucky I can work from home, I can't imagine the stress of having to find childcare at short notice.
