It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot I find this on-the-ground info very interesting. Why are you sending out photocopied packs? Can’t you use email - more covid-secure and environmentally friendly? I can’t believe parents don’t have phones at the very least. Surely only a handful need printed paper copies? Maybe you are dealing with a very young age range? Is that the explanation?

Also, couldn’t something have been prepared over the break or at the end of last term? I do appreciate the closure is short notice but we have had a pandemic for ten months.

Royaldada · 03/01/2021 18:51

I’m in Bracknell (Berkshire) and as far as I’m aware both DDs and DSs are still planning to open but there is one in our council area that is closed

IndecentFeminist · 03/01/2021 18:51

If they do shut it won't be indefinitely until Easter.

year5teacher · 03/01/2021 18:51

I am fairly certain my school is open to all children from Tuesday. We haven’t been told otherwise, just been asked to email in by 5pm today if we aren’t coming in due to NEU advise. I’m in the SW.

FrameByFrame · 03/01/2021 18:53

So many schools seem to be closing, yet I haven't seen anything in the media/press about this yet. Has anyone else?

perhapstomorrow · 03/01/2021 18:53

Our primary is closing for some year groups only. Thank God the head teacher is making the right decision. I was thinking about not sending my ds in anyway. Shame it isn't all classes though.

ConfusedcomMum · 03/01/2021 18:54

Its not about the numbers people, it's about the rate. You could be just a few weeks behind London.

Changeismyname · 03/01/2021 18:54

Derbyshire bordering greater Manchester - one primary in our town closing, the rest are all opening. Nurseries opening.

gingajewel · 03/01/2021 18:55

In Wolverhampton here, told at 6.30 today my dd’s school is closed, great for working parents!

LST · 03/01/2021 18:55

Some in my area are but thankfully my dcs school is still open!

AlandAnna · 03/01/2021 18:57

The schools that are closing tomorrow at short notice - have they said that key worker children can attend?
Haven’t heard from ours, think open. Tier 4

Abraxan · 03/01/2021 18:57

We are open from tomorrow - tier 3, state LEA infant school.

We were contacted by the head to request a place this afternoon. It’s inset tomorrow but will be notified by end of school day tomorrow.

My children go to school in Wolves too. Was inset tomorrow. Was contacted earlier if needed a key worker space.
frizzyandfrazzled · 03/01/2021 19:00

Our school in Tier 4 (Lancashire) closed from tomorrow to all but key worker kids who attended last lockdown. Our children will go to grandparents. We are both key workers (I think - the definition of local government workers is vague) but I worked full time from home last lockdown - tomorrow I start my new job in the office/community 🙈

Ohdoleavemealone · 03/01/2021 19:00

DH thinks he heard LBC mention that schools are closing in Cheshire but I wasn't listening and can't see anything online stating this.

We had an email earlier saying school was open but they wouldn't be forcing teachers to go in.

I'm in Walsall and ten minutes from Wolvo. All open as normal. This is crazy.

I'll believe that when I see it. I'm happy that my child can attend under critical worker provision but I feel for parents who are going to lose their jobs Sad.
Sup1979 · 03/01/2021 19:02

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

It is. We've got 5 working hours tomorrow to get packs out to 500 kids. One photocopier.
One At a school of 500 children?

Bloody hell... covid is least of your school’s problems!

stairway · 03/01/2021 19:02

Both primary and nursery are shutting in my village which has very low rates . We were told at 5pm today with no key worker provision. I still have to go to work tomorrow. I’m not very impressed to be honest.

allmycats · 03/01/2021 19:03

Tier 3 and local council have all schools closed tomorrow for 'covid secure discussion '

AlandAnna · 03/01/2021 19:04

Thanks. Both NHS here so bit limited in being able to drop everything without some notice!

Livelovebehappy · 03/01/2021 19:04

Tier 3 - all our schools are staying open. Guess it makes sense as our virus infection rate is stable atm.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 03/01/2021 19:04

Ours just posted on Facebook that they have staff shortages but are opening all year groups as planned. I’m in south Oxfordshire.
