It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

@Ohdoleavemealone

It's on a Facebook post from the council. Kids can't wait to go back but I think I feel it's better all round if they stay closed for now. I have a feeling they won't finish this term and all the upheaval is going to unsettle them again.

Yorkshire schools staying open
Not ours...
KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 03/01/2021 19:24

One of DS's schools has closed, but the other that is just down the road is staying open! We're in Surrey

Sup1979 · 03/01/2021 19:25

@Randomschoolworker19

Just recieved notice from work that we're closing due to too many staff invoking Section 44. I wasn't one of them but I can understand why so many did. It depends on your circumstances.
Wonder what happens in that scenario re furlough
Ohdoleavemealone · 03/01/2021 19:25

@DeathMetalMum It’s a tough either way. Kids are struggling with being at home and I am struggling too with the lack of me time but then going back has as many draw backs. We will just have to take it day by day I guess. I will be surprised if they get to the end of the week!

Santaisonhiswaytoday · 03/01/2021 19:25

Still open (so far) in Coventry

Allispretty · 03/01/2021 19:26

Not Gildersome in Leeds

Greater Manchester, opening on tuesday (we think), not heard anything either way. Rates round here are rather lower than they were in the autumn but if staff are with NEU and they don't go in, imagine it will be difficult for school to open.

Yorkshire schools staying open
Presumably you meant

“My child’s school in Yorkshire is closed”

delilahbucket · 03/01/2021 19:27

It looks like it here in West Yorkshire although I think our local primary is still opening (the head never shuts the school even if it's twelve feet under snow with no staff). DS is at secondary so I'm out of the loop now.

Lauren1983 · 03/01/2021 19:27

Does anyone know who makes the decision in academy schools? Does the academy trust decide or do the headteachers?

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 03/01/2021 19:27

Haven’t heard anything to suggest greater Manchester schools are closing but rates in boroughs are only a third of what they were at times and the schools stayed open

Our areas numbers are not at their highest but seem to be 2.5 times higher than they were on 10 December

Our borough’s schools don’t go back until Thursday anyway so will see what this next few days brings. We may not send DS back for Thursday and Friday to see if gov changes its mind at weekend. No point risking an isolation period for the sake of 2 days!

We only had 4 single class bubbles close last term and no in school transmission so I go think our school’s procedures are pretty effective so far

Theimpossiblegirl · 03/01/2021 19:28

@perhapstomorrow

Our primary is closing for some year groups only. Thank God the head teacher is making the right decision. I was thinking about not sending my ds in anyway. Shame it isn't all classes though.
That means the teachers of some classes are either not NEU or haven't sent in the letter. The headteacher isn't making this decision, it's been left up to individuals to make the choice, wrong and unfair. The head is choosing to keep classes open if they have the staff available, despite many teachers saying it is unsafe.

CEO in consultation with the trustees most probably. Or at least in consultation with the Chair.
missfliss · 03/01/2021 19:30

Sussex here. School emailed earlier this evening to say 50% staff not coming in.

The DFE should have listened

I fully support the NEU stance -
Not just for pupil / teacher / staff safety but for the role schools will play in community transmission of this new variant

Home counties tier 4 here with a rate of 900/100K & increasing exponentially. Schools open :(

Laiste · 03/01/2021 19:34

South Northants here, still open.

BIL in Reading has just been told they're shut.

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/01/2021 19:34

I wish the government would just close them all now. All that's happening now is people complaining that teachers just need to get on with it and why shouldn't they go in. It's just creating a divide.

EcoCustard · 03/01/2021 19:36

Lincolnshire here. Primary open tomorrow, received email last night stating they were and attendance is required and will be monitored unless discussed with headteacher. Had no further updates yet.

Daddyatethemincepies · 03/01/2021 19:37

Central Beds are currently staying aligned with the DFE guidance and schools are staying open. Levels have risen very rapidly around here so I'm torn between sending my dc to school on Tuesday (and holding out for Boris to u-turn) or just keeping them at home and wait for levels to fall a bit before sending them back. It's such a hard decision to make because there are pros and cons to both decisions.

bartymao · 03/01/2021 19:37

The governors with the head teacher.
AnxiousWeirdo · 03/01/2021 19:38

I've just heard that two local primarys aren't going back for at least 2 weeks. Ours is though. We're tier 3

ThatDamnKrampus · 03/01/2021 19:39

@Pastanred

lancashire cases are currently well lower - upto a 1/4 of what they were sept-dec

same with liverpool - half what they were in October

closing now is frankly a piss take - cases up north are lower now than lst few months

By closing we can prevent a ridiculous surge. Proactive not reactive action is required. Something our government could do with knowing!!!
