It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

Lots of Southanpton schiols have said they will stay closed, apparently because of lack of staff.

SophieB100 · 03/01/2021 18:36

16 closed in Norwich and Norfolk, and numbers being increased.

november90 · 03/01/2021 18:36

It's crazy how different everywhere is! What an absolute shambles and so unfair on parents who have no idea what's going on!

Ours has west Midlands tier 4 due to lack of staffing. Currently the only local one closed

the80sweregreat · 03/01/2021 18:36

@kowari

It's so awful for this to be happening last minute Sad.
With Gavin in charge I think a lot of people thought this would happen and it has.
NeurotreeWenceslas · 03/01/2021 18:37

Please bare in mind that in some schools, no matter where you are, staff may have been working in less than Covid safe and felt very unsupported. This is their opportunity to demand safer working conditions.

My own school feels as safe as we can make it especially re ventilation and we are lucky to have great heating too, plus loads of extra cleaners. I've had amazingly supportive slt. I've heard stories from other teachers that astound me.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 03/01/2021 18:39

(Please note, no masks and no SD at all, also working alongside many support staff as it's an sen school.)

HeadIsFucked · 03/01/2021 18:41

Expect ours will go. Local council put out a statement a few hours ago stating they disagree with the government, and will support any schools whether they chose to open or not, stating its up o the school. This has been replicated in neighbouring councils also. I will be surprised if many chose to open, with the official backing really.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 03/01/2021 18:41

Central SE/north Hampshire. None of the local schools are saying they're closing.

Yet

starrynight19 · 03/01/2021 18:41

@Pastanred

lancashire cases are currently well lower - upto a 1/4 of what they were sept-dec

same with liverpool - half what they were in October

closing now is frankly a piss take - cases up north are lower now than lst few months

Maybe they are pre empting avoiding that shitshow again ? Cases are rising in almost every area.
AVictoryProduct · 03/01/2021 18:42

Got a letter from primary school today saying open. Pupils will be welcomed back. North East. Low rates in our particular area.

covetingthepreciousthings · 03/01/2021 18:43

Tier 3, just heard a local village primary here has sent out an email tonight to say they will be closed due to staff not going in / save advice etc.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 03/01/2021 18:43

Bolton here (tier 4)
Ds's school is open as is another local one. 1 is closed due to staff shortages.

Roselilly36 · 03/01/2021 18:43

My DS’s have finished their education now, thank goodness as I am ECV, I really feel for parents, it’s a tough decision to make whether to send DC in to school or not.

angelhorror · 03/01/2021 18:44

We have had an email saying that all staff will be in and school will be open.

Pastanred · 03/01/2021 18:44

starry

i agree but even at 780/100,000 in my area many kids - inc min- still had 100% attendance due to few cases

the figures the south are getting now, the north have had for months! blackburn was over 1500/100000 for weeks and school stayed open

Ionacat · 03/01/2021 18:44

North Hampshire, we got a text this afternoon to say ours isn’t opening except to key worker and vulnerable pupils due to staff following union guidance.

Everything has been last minute with this government. It is their signature style, though admittedly in this instance they are managing a pandemic and have stats coming in to take into account.
NeurotreeWenceslas · 03/01/2021 18:45

It's concern about this new variant.

The conditions and context has changed.

Pastanred · 03/01/2021 18:45

bolton cases are now lowest ive ever seen them - how can they justiy closing - they had months of cases 3x higher than now

Iwantacookie · 03/01/2021 18:45

West Midlands here just gone into tier 4 fb page for primary school still says "back on Tuesday" but that was 3 days ago so still no idea atm.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 03/01/2021 18:47

@Pastanred but the Liverpool rates for eg (and even more in wider merseyside) have massively accelerated the last week.

jessstan1 · 03/01/2021 18:48

@Noellodee

Good for them. Well done NEU. What a fucking disgrace that it had to be unions and teachers doing this.
Too right!
CloseSchoolsProtecttheNHS · 03/01/2021 18:49

What a mess! Disaster of a government.

SophieB100 · 03/01/2021 18:50

We've got a local primary here who share the same site and facilities.
The infants is closing - the primary is opening.
Lots of the students (and I mean lots) have siblings in the other school.
What a nightmare for parents - keep them all off? Just send the older ones in and risk them bringing the virus home?
What a bloody shambles.
Shame on you Gavin
