It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

Surely the PE kit and not standing near teachers were all in place anyway?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/01/2021 16:03

Not going near teachers was (that bit was a reminder) but I think they were the only school in the country still using the changing areas at school.

drspouse · 04/01/2021 16:05
Shock
RememberSelfCompassion · 04/01/2021 16:06

Our primary was still using changing areas. I can't remember the justification. Something to do with vulnerable groups not remembering pe kit/coming in wrong kit.

itsgettingweird · 04/01/2021 16:20

Coming in wrong kit - what - as in non regulation sports stuff?

If so that's really the least of anyone's worries in a pandemic.

I'm still Shock at the number of secondary schools insisting on thin shirt and blazer and refusing jumpers or coats being worn but having all windows open.

drspouse · 04/01/2021 16:22

I've just ordered my primary DCs thermal long sleeved tops.

RememberSelfCompassion · 04/01/2021 16:34

Oh I agree completely.

Looks like complete lockdown coming anyway.

Sup1979 · 04/01/2021 18:22

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Our T4 extra measures...
  • face masks encouraged for parents at drop off
  • wearing PE kit on PE days
  • don't go near the teachers.

I'm hoping the teachers are all happy with this. I'm happy my DDs get to go to school, bit would hate the teachers to be there under sufferance.

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

What the heck were they doing beforehand?

Sup1979 · 04/01/2021 18:23

@drspouse

I've just ordered my primary DCs thermal long sleeved tops.
So? Brilliant for walks for this time of year.
Brockaslass · 04/01/2021 18:40

Ours closed in Co-Durham

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 04/01/2021 18:59

@Sup1979 they have loads of other measures, but they have been ongoing (like seperate entrances, staggered drop offs, staggered lunch times, sectioned off playground so classes don't mix).

Panickingpavlova · 04/01/2021 19:03

Why face mask encouraged?.

Why not absolutely insisted upon, or visors and please contact school office if you cannot wear a mask or visor.

The blazer and shirt rule...... What a mess, what a lack of recognition about the shit we're in.. We need shit hot ad makers driving this message home... Using visual supports.. To help people understand.

Panickingpavlova · 04/01/2021 19:09

I also hate the '' school has done really well to keep children safe ''

Up to December, weather had actually been very mild esp down south. Many dc have been able to do so much outside, Windows open, socially outside, lunch eaten on field.

Teachers are not medics with hygiene training needed to combat this. Just as they are not medically trained to administer tests in the body.

It's unfair to put pressure onto teachers for covid safety they can only be made slightly safe er and that's only with weak provisions supplied by the gov

. It's an airborne respitory virus, teachers cannot suck the poison out of the air and stop it circulating.

retired60 · 04/01/2021 20:04

Please take a step back.
We entrust our very precious children to nursery and school with the proviso that it’s a safe place for our children.
These are not safe places at present.
Support the educators who don’t feel it’s safe for them or our children.
I’m shocked that so many evidently caring parents are wanting to take their precious children to an unsafe place.
I’m hoping teachers will hand in section44 letters. These are letters state the staff feel their workplace is unsafe.

drspouse · 04/01/2021 20:07

@Sup1979 that was in response to the secondary pupils in thin shirts! My two will be in (KW/EHCP)

CaveMum · 04/01/2021 20:10

So my interpretation of that - schools shut till after February half term but nurseries stay open?!

drspouse · 04/01/2021 20:11

It's so unsettling though @retired60 - when my DS school said "yes we are opening no we aren't OK we are barring disasters" (!).
But it just seems like a complete lottery which schools are open, which is awful for teachers.

retired60 · 04/01/2021 23:17

The school staff can look after their own welfare, whether to be in an unsafe situation. However the pupils, our precious children are reliant on us to NOT put them in dangerous situations. What sensible adult would even consider putting a child in a school just now. I don’t understand.

christinarossetti19 · 04/01/2021 23:49

There are plenty of sensible adults who simply can't wfh and whose salary pays the bills retired60.

Loads, if you look through the threads over the past few days of women saying that if they don't hold on to their jobs they'll lose their children's home etc.

More people are definitely in a worse position this time around.

This is a spectacularly offensive post on so many levels tbh.

Offensive retired60.

NHS staff, police, supermarket workers, - you know the ones that keep things running so you can sit around being offensive to others. One of those non sensible people might do your supermarket delivery/serve you/help you when you are sick/pay your pension....etc etc.... those type of non sensible people have to send their children in.

Sup1979 · 05/01/2021 11:31

She’s retired
No school age children relying on her

Just ignore her

My husband and I can work from home. But we both have demanding jobs and actually do need to work. We'll have no choice but to homeschool our daughter but if our sons nursery remains open, we will have to send him. It's unreasonable to expect employer to flex if you turn down childcare you can legally use.
christinarossetti19 · 05/01/2021 15:32

I'm not sure I agree tbh.

If someone's job can be done at home and they are willing and able to juggle both work and childcare, I don't think the onus should be on the employer to flex to contribute to the public health need to reduce transmission.

If people have nursery provision available and want to use it, fair enough, but setting a precedent that an employer can refuse flexible working even if someone is able to fulfil the demands of their role is an unhelpful precedent to set which will negatively impact on women more.

christinarossetti19 · 05/01/2021 15:33

"I don't think the onus"

NO! I do think the onus should be on the employer to flex.

That's the adjustment that will reduce transmission, which is the overall public health goal.
