It's all over fb that our local primary schools are closing tomorrow. My son is in nursery so I'm assuming that will follow suit. He will be so upset as he's been so excited about going back :(
We're in Lancashire. This happening anywhere else?

At what point do the DFE accept how utterly incompetent they have been and they actually have no control over this situation anymore.

MyHairNeedsASnip · 03/01/2021 18:17

Greater Manchester, mine are to go in as planned tomorrow. I'd hoped they'd be closed.

starrynight19 · 03/01/2021 18:17

@lljkk

Are closures happening in spite of DfE instructions, or within the DfE rules?
They aren’t even in the equation anymore it seems Confused

@LadyCatStark I'm in heysham! I have no idea what's going on with my sons nursery... but every is commenting about closures on fb!
My friends a teacher and she was emailed last night by the union telling her that she shouldn't go into work.

Could this be it until Easter 😰

@lljkk

Yes. Because the DfE are rubbish so other's are having to make the decisions instead.
LadyCatStark · 03/01/2021 18:20

@november90 we lived in Heysham til June! DS is at LRGS so he’s definitely off anyway. There doesn’t seem to be any mention of nurseries. I do honestly think if they shut now, they’ll be shut til Easter 🙈.

Thriwit · 03/01/2021 18:20

I’m Tier 4, West Mids (just), and my kids’ school sent a message saying they’re closing tomorrow for health & safety reasons because the icy conditions on the school grounds are unsafe 😅

Think the headteacher is being a bit diplomatic and buying some time!

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 03/01/2021 18:21

Reading, Berkshire slowly closing.

littlemisslozza · 03/01/2021 18:21

No, but we're in Tier 3.

Katkincake · 03/01/2021 18:23

Yes, got msg to say DS primary is only opening to keyworker / vulnerable from tommorrow. We're Tier 3, just gone up from 2 in Shropshire

Delatron · 03/01/2021 18:23

Bucks here. A strongly worded letter has been circulating on FB saying schools will be following government guidelines and not teaching unions demands.

Whether they’ll be enough staff is another matter but council here want to keep schools open.

Delatron · 03/01/2021 18:24

And we’re tier 4 with high cases.

TheHobbitMum · 03/01/2021 18:25

A couple in Swindon are closed now, none in my town in Gloucestershire yet

Okki · 03/01/2021 18:25

@Waxonwaxoff0 I'm that sort of location too. Alfreton area. Our school is opening Tues.

pinkpixie83 · 03/01/2021 18:27

My boys primary is shut... not enough staff. Norfolk.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2021 18:28

@Okki Erewash here. School down the road from DS's is opening the infants but not the juniors. Confused Is it to do with staffing?

DS's headteacher has seemed keen to stay open as much as possible so that may be why we haven't heard anything yet.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 03/01/2021 18:28

Lincolnshire. Had a message from HT saying they are looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday.

I'll see what happens after the teachers have their INSET tomorrow. It could easily change.

MrsWhites · 03/01/2021 18:31

Borough bordering Merseyside here, our school opening, they sent a rather patronising email suggesting that school will stay open if we don’t stop to talk at the gates!

I’ve emailed to say my DS will not be attending!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 03/01/2021 18:31

NE, open as usual but a first school and the local middles are closing. Ive hrard of a couple of local schools closing the odd class.

My own school is open as far as I know, but sen.

tinkerbell2021 · 03/01/2021 18:32

My ds junior school is closed in Norfolk due to staff shortages.

ineedaholidaynow · 03/01/2021 18:33

Our local schools are having an emergency meeting tomorrow as part of their INSET day, so assume we will get notification later tomorrow what is happening.

Alwaysready · 03/01/2021 18:33

No tier 4 Oxfordshire my school and my childrens school both open tomorrow....

CaveMum · 03/01/2021 18:34

Cambridgeshire here. School (Primary) sent a letter from the LEA round this afternoon saying schools will reopen tomorrow in line with Government guidance.

Pastanred · 03/01/2021 18:34

lancashire cases are currently well lower - upto a 1/4 of what they were sept-dec

same with liverpool - half what they were in October

closing now is frankly a piss take - cases up north are lower now than lst few months

cautiouscovidity · 03/01/2021 18:34

We're in South Devon. Just had a cheery message from the head saying that he hopes we've had a nice Christmas and all the staff are looking forward to seeing us tomorrow. The infection rate is very low here though (under 40 per 100K).
