Just lock us down before the vaccine!

Lock us down and be done with it until Feb/March or whenever the vaccine is established. All schools off too (health trumps education).

One last shit show, then we will never have to do it again.

The light IS at the end of the tunnel. (Vaccine, hurrah).

Let’s save lives whilst we can. We never know when we may need emergency NHS treatment.

For the record I’m not privileged, and I have three young kids who in the perfect covid free world I would much prefer to be AT school.

My friend thinks we should just get on with our lives “survival of the fittest”. Well bloody good luck with your survival rhetoric when you need a hospital bed for you or your child and there isn’t one......

Anyone else agree/disagree?

Yep I am coming round to thinking the same.

Mousehole10 · 29/12/2020 21:20

If we could definitely get back to normal once lockdown is over I’m all for it. Two more months of this rubbish then freedom. What I don’t agree with are these continuous restrictions so I don’t agree with about her lockdown if it’s not going to make a difference once it’s finished.

Scottishgirl85 · 29/12/2020 21:20

Disagree - majority of population will not be vaccinated until second half of 2021. Do you propose to lockdown until then?

I think in years to come we will learn that the lockdowns caused more harm than good. Economical, mental health, lost education, non-Covid deaths due to missed diagnoses etc etc.

Scaredshitlessagain · 29/12/2020 21:23

Do one OP

QueenOfLabradors · 29/12/2020 21:24

Lock down now, focus on vaccination, get on with rest of our lives sometime between Easter and midsummer.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 29/12/2020 21:24

Fuck off. I’m already in tier 4 and WFH 100% of the time (haven’t been to the office since 13 March). I’m not entitled to a support bubble. I cannot face being at home any more than I currently am. It’s already a thoroughly miserable and lonely existence - I’m not being locked down until next autumn (which is when I’m predicted to get the vaccine).

DinosaurDildo · 29/12/2020 21:26

@Scottishgirl85

No I don’t but I think a six month lockdown is unrealistic and unnecessary. The spring/early summer brings a natural reduction in cases. Even if we just locked down for January that would ease some pressure, and save countless lives.

Whatever way you look at it people will die. Perhaps less if we lock down now for a month.

Nice, reasoned argument there @ScaredshitlessagainHmm

OP i agree from my personal pov. But I worry for those with no support, the MH of many especially teens, and the vulnerable children who are hard to keep an eye on if not at school.
It's an awful balancing act to get right

rosie1959 · 29/12/2020 21:29

This would only be viable if they had enough vaccine for all over 50s and the vulnerable and get it all done in a few weeks not months

Chipsandchesses · 29/12/2020 21:29

Lockdown for a month in November didnt work though did it? So why would another month work now? A six month full lockdown would cripple the UK. Luckily I don’t own a business but a friend of mine had just closed his restaurant for good, many many more businesses will follow.

DinosaurDildo · 29/12/2020 21:31

@HainaultViaNewburyPark

I’m sorry you’re lonely, lockdown has been hard for all of us, although I would rather not get into covid oneupmanship.

I have empathy for all working situations but my empathy is now firmly with those NHS workers who are working in the most awful conditions.

This is a desperate situation for all, but when did I say lock us down until next autumn?
I didn’t.

formerEUcitizen · 29/12/2020 21:32

I think you are being a bit premature before the approval of the AZ vaccine. Plus even 1 million vaccines administered a week would take a year to do everyone. God help us if they carry on at the rate they are doing the Pfizer vaccine - I hope that is solely due to the fragility of the vaccine and not organisational ineptitude.
I want to be vaccinated as soon as possible. If you feel like me, best not look at one of those online 'when will I be vaccinated' tools. It does not give good timescales for the under 50s.

ihearttc · 29/12/2020 21:32

Are you actually serious? It’s not going to be 2 bloody months? Most people won’t be vaccinated until the beginning of next year? Are you willing to put your life on hold for another year like this?

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 29/12/2020 21:32

November lockdown was pointless and poorly timed. Schools didn't close so people ignored the rules and carried on like normal

AlwaysLatte · 29/12/2020 21:34

YES!!!
Totally agree. People need to see the bigger, better picture.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 29/12/2020 21:34

We dont need EVERYONE to be vaccinated to reduce pressure on NHS and therefore ease lockdown.

Why don't people understand this?! It's been publicised enough.

We need time to vaccinate the ones most likely to need hospital care and we need to close schools to reduce pressure on services until the numbers in hospital have come down.

DinosaurDildo · 29/12/2020 21:35

@BloggersBlog

Yes it sure is, and heavily contested. I agree with you, definitely wasn’t suggesting no school for the next six months.

OP posts:
OppsUpsSide · 29/12/2020 21:35

What lockdown in November?

Meepmeeep · 29/12/2020 21:35

No fucking way - they told us it was a 3 week lockdown back in March. Here we are approaching 2021 with things looking even gloomier than before. Yes there’s a vaccine, but how long until it’s really going to make a difference to our day to day lives...

Chipsandchesses · 29/12/2020 21:35

What “bigger better picture” ? How long do you think it will take to vaccinate the whole of the UK?

southeastdweller · 29/12/2020 21:36

Fuck that shit.

Chipsandchesses · 29/12/2020 21:36

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady / how long?

rosie1959 · 29/12/2020 21:36

I bet if China has to vaccinate the same amount of people they would do it quick

MilyMoo · 29/12/2020 21:36

Don't agree with closing primary schools or nurseries but otherwise yes full lock down needed. Also cancel exams for Yr11, 12 & 13,

DinosaurDildo · 29/12/2020 21:36

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

Yes exactly. Totally agree.
