Just lock us down before the vaccine!

Lock us down and be done with it until Feb/March or whenever the vaccine is established. All schools off too (health trumps education).

One last shit show, then we will never have to do it again.

The light IS at the end of the tunnel. (Vaccine, hurrah).

Let’s save lives whilst we can. We never know when we may need emergency NHS treatment.

For the record I’m not privileged, and I have three young kids who in the perfect covid free world I would much prefer to be AT school.

My friend thinks we should just get on with our lives “survival of the fittest”. Well bloody good luck with your survival rhetoric when you need a hospital bed for you or your child and there isn’t one......

Anyone else agree/disagree?

Lairyfightzzzz · 29/12/2020 21:55

I’m not supporting any further lockdown unlesseveryhousehold is allowed to have a support bubble

I do agree with that actually.

HermannlovesPauline · 29/12/2020 21:59

Where the fuck is the Oxford vaccine? I thought it would have been approved by now

Armi · 29/12/2020 21:59

I agree, OP. Enough of this shit. Shut it all down, get the vaccine done. Move on.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/12/2020 21:59

The dangerous thing about Covid isnt how quickly it spreads, it's the death rate.

It's how many people become hospitalised, really.

SquirtleSquad · 29/12/2020 22:02

@DinosaurDildo

Personally I think the vaccine will be very successful. All hail the mighty vaccine indeed.

Happy to be called a nutcase for that. Also we have a new variant, not a new strain. Even MORE of a reason to vaccinate so aggressively now.

The image of someone vaccinating aggressively and stabbing people violently in the arm is slightly amusing Xmas GrinWine
BonnieDundee · 29/12/2020 22:05

I have a better idea. Instead of locking everyone down, come down hard on all the employers who are not protecting their staff by not allowing them to socially distance at work

Totally agree

princessTiasmum · 29/12/2020 22:06

Yes i agree, it's got worse since schools went back
Secondary schools need closing
Health before education, I'm sure they will catch up

NikeDeLaSwoosh · 29/12/2020 22:10

You do realise that the virus is constantly mutating, right?

I do understand the need to stay positive, but some people can be very naive and unquestioning sometimes.

Lairyfightzzzz · 29/12/2020 22:10

Employers in general have a lot to answer for tbh. Costa, for instance, have told their staff not to download the NHS covid app as, given their stores are "covid safe" they shouldn't need them.

My friend works for a Costa in Norwich. Last week three employees tested positive.

tookabreak · 29/12/2020 22:10

as long as you pay all my bills, buy my soon to be fucked business , look after my kids, and pay massive extra taxes for the rest of your life, then i'll be happy to stay at home. unenforced lockdowns don't work and the fallout will be more severe than Covid

DinosaurDildo · 29/12/2020 22:12

@SquirtleSquad

Oh come off it squirty you knew what I meant Wink...... get the job done now whilst the vaccines actually work before any bigger mutations.

OP posts:
Lairyfightzzzz · 29/12/2020 22:12

I'm more than happy to pay higher taxes frankly if it means getting out of this hell sooner.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/12/2020 22:18

Lockdown/ no lockdown - how many customers will be piling in to non-essential shops when patients are being shipped cross country to get a hospital bed in two weeks time?

DinosaurDildo · 29/12/2020 22:21

@FourTeaFallOut

Not many. Either way = economy fucked/higher taxes.

Question is, will kids still be piling into schools Hmm

We'll be paying higher taxes in any event.
TableFlowerss · 29/12/2020 22:24

@Scottishgirl85

Disagree - majority of population will not be vaccinated until second half of 2021. Do you propose to lockdown until then?

I think in years to come we will learn that the lockdowns caused more harm than good. Economical, mental health, lost education, non-Covid deaths due to missed diagnoses etc etc.

Here here
Defenbaker · 29/12/2020 22:26

I think they will have to lock down for at least the first half of January, just to cope with the rising cases and make inroads with the vaccination programme. I can't see the point of opening schools again, when they know this will exacerbate the coming crisis. Perhaps some of the school time lost could be made up by extending the summer term? Most kids are bored by the end of 6 weeks (or more) summer holidays anyway, so perhaps this would be a solution, although it might go down like a lead balloon with some teachers.

BonnieDundee · 29/12/2020 22:27

@Lairyfightzzzz most people I know have been told by their employers to switch the app off when they are at work. Seems like a cop out to me

Also what about the big fuss about the Leicester factory owners who were forcing staff to work during the first lockdown? Will they actually be prosecuted for that? Many many employers (including NHS) are not complying with the rules and staff are scared to speak up.

My point is would it not be better to enforce compliance in the workplace? In my workplace there is absolutely no social distancing at all yet when I go out in public i have to adhere to all sorts of rules that just do not apply in my workplace.

I feel like I'm not important enough to.be protected but I have to protect everyone else

FourTeaFallOut · 29/12/2020 22:30

You don't need to vaccinate the whole or even half the population. The first 2m jabs to the most elderly will reduce mortality by half - with a sizeable reduction in hospital admissions. Vaccinating everyone over 75 can reduce mortality rates by 71%.

PimlicoJo · 29/12/2020 22:32

Lockdown who OP? Everyone? Including NHS workers, shop workers, transport workers, bin men, emergency services workers, factory workers, delivery drivers, warehouse workers?

The amazing people who keep our lives ticking over.
What utter nonsense. What we need to do is keep urging people to comply with the restrictions already in place.

LizzieSiddal · 29/12/2020 22:33

I totally agree op. Full lockdown for at least 4 weeks. Everything closed down including schools.

If we continue as we are the hospitals will become like war zones.

LizzieSiddal · 29/12/2020 22:36

And as other posters have pointed out- you do not need to vaccinate everyone, only the vulnerable, to be-able to relax restrictions. If we vaccinate everyone over 60, the death rate would plummet.
Also the Oxford vaccine stops most people from becoming seriously ill.

Plus the scientists are extremely confident the vaccine will work against the new strains of the virus.

Defenbaker · 29/12/2020 22:37

@FourTeaFallOut If your figures are correct that gives a lot of hope that by mid Feb things may start to look a lot better, provided they manage to vaccinate all the people over 75 by that point, along with the NHS staff and care home workers. Of course that's assuming that the Oxford vaccine comes good and supplies are available quickly. Crossing all fingers.

DinosaurDildo · 29/12/2020 22:38

@Chimeraforce

I’m not just speaking for myself, yes it’s my opinion, but there’s bigger things at stake here..... I am afraid people need hospital beds more than what your child currently “needs”.
