National lockdown needed

Record breaking 40,000 new cases today why on earth is boris not calling for a national lockdown now? Why is he so slow at acting on a fast moving virus?

I wish they would stop pussy footing about and go for a full lock down.

BaileyBoos · 28/12/2020 18:08

Agreed. Lock us down, close the schools.

chocolatesaltyxmaspudballs · 28/12/2020 18:09

Not for us thanks. Cases in my area are dropping and we have been in tier 3 for months which is bad enough. Should only be applied where needed.

Lifeispassingby · 28/12/2020 18:09

Because Boris is slow to act on everything. This situation is getting worse than the previous peak in April and he is doing nothing about it. Along with people who can’t be bothered or are too inconvenienced by the rules we are heading for a very bad situation indeed- a situation that affects all of use whatever age and whatever medical condition or accident we happen to suffer. Let’s hope no one needs a hospital bed any time soon as they are in short supply

PandemicPavolova · 28/12/2020 18:09

And yet it's been shown had we locked down two weeks earlier in march we would have saved thousands of lives.

Because he’s flailing around cluelessly and doesn’t care.

Johnson’s bored of Covid now. It’s all about levelling up.

herecomestheSon · 28/12/2020 18:11

Because they are incompetent idiots who dither and then bluster that they are fucking world beating. It happened in the first lockdown and it is happening again now. Strewth.

Lifeispassingby · 28/12/2020 18:11

@chocolatesaltyxmaspudballs this was the same in my area a week ago and then the new strain arrived, now we have double the infections as a week ago. Hospitals in chaos and this needs preventing in areas that have escaped so far

Ilovegreentomatoes · 28/12/2020 18:12

I'm so angry at this government for fucking this country up.

Mintjulia · 28/12/2020 18:13

I think lockdown's inevitable given the daily rate.

If the schools reopen, DS will go back but other than school, we will willingly isolate until April. Sad

AlwaysLatte · 28/12/2020 18:13

Because everything that government does is a knee jerk reaction, and that's why we're number one in the world for new cases. A full lockdown is the only thing to do now.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 28/12/2020 18:14

If we had managed this better we wouldn't be in such a mess a year along the line. How will we ever get back to normality at this rate?

Purplethrow · 28/12/2020 18:14

When you say full lockdown, do you mean all non essential shops to close properly and not do click and collect? I know of businesses breaking the rules regarding this.

lunar1 · 28/12/2020 18:14

Given that the 40,000 doesn't even include Scottish numbers from the 24th and it hasn't been long enough to include the Christmas mixing I completely agree.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 28/12/2020 18:15

Full lockdown like march schools shut.I know it's not a popular opinion but it's the only way.

OP posts:
Ilovegreentomatoes · 28/12/2020 18:16

All retail shut except for supermarkets.

OP posts:
PrincessNutNuts · 28/12/2020 18:16

At current rates we'll hit 100,000 covid deaths in about 9 weeks.

The nightmare of course is if it's by the end of January because we have another month like April where over a thousand people die most days. Sad

I'm absolutely dreading it.

TheoriginalLEM · 28/12/2020 18:19

Yes why are people even fucking around with tiers?? We were in tier 2 in kent and now look....

The government has been on the back foot since this shitshow started, you would have thought they'd have learnt.

None of us want winter lickdown although i seem to recall people happily supporting furlough in the summer (myself included) now we are being asked to make actual sacrifices and yes, its shit but are people that stupid?? The faster and more decisively we act, the quicker well get back a semblance of control. This is spirslling out of control now and i couldn't give a shiny shit whether youve been in tier 3 and dont want to support the rest of the country - grow up

MiddleOfThePack · 28/12/2020 18:22

...and now we are sending our lovely new variant to South Korea and Finland!

TheoriginalLEM · 28/12/2020 18:23

Eh?

BaileyBoos · 28/12/2020 18:23

This tier nonsense is a lock of bollocks. It’s not going to work.
One last lockdown before the vaccines. It’s the only way.

GirlCrush · 28/12/2020 18:24

yesterday at work (non food retail) i felt far more vulnerable than before christmas

not good....and next to nobody uses hand sanitiser anymore

hamstersarse · 28/12/2020 18:25

There is no doubt that there is a spread and rise but I am extremely concerned about the collateral damage that lockdowns inflict, mainly on the poorest in the country.

I think a better strategy would be to keep the tiers but accelerate the vaccination programme exponentially

shamus2020 · 28/12/2020 18:27

I agree a full lockdown needs to happen. We'll be living like this forever if not.

Ilovegreentomatoes · 28/12/2020 18:29

If we keep the tiers the virus will just continue to spread and even scientific advisers have told boris the tiers system does not work.
