Do you think tier five will happen

Or just just being said as scare tactic? What else could they really stop people doing?

Given many aren’t following the rules not sure what tier 5 would achieve that tier 4 didn’t.

Maybe shops only selling essentials to stop people using them as a social family outing etc possibly.

Silvergreen · 28/12/2020 13:20

If tier 5 is not leaving the house it will be unenforceable.

Bluntness100 · 28/12/2020 13:21

What would tier five actually be? Other than confining people to their homes by force?

InTheLongGrass · 28/12/2020 13:22

Tier 5 - schools shut, one exercise trip a day, and not to leave local area - defined as same first half of pistcode.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 28/12/2020 13:22

In tier 5 they will confiscate everyone's car keys and we will have to wear a full diving suit and air tanks to the supermarket.

Letseatgrandma · 28/12/2020 13:22

I’m sure primary schools will still be open in Tier 5, though...

Ifailed · 28/12/2020 13:24

Who would enforce Tier 5?

Isthatitnow · 28/12/2020 13:26

We have not yet seen the military deployed to the streets but it has always been a possibility.

EttaG · 28/12/2020 13:27

Basically a lockdown in all but name. Whether people would comply is another matter! This is why China has the virus under control and we don’t - in a Communist country you don’t dare disobey.

Barbie222 · 28/12/2020 13:30

Pigeons and primary age children only allowed out of the house. No eye contact allowed with the pigeons.

LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife · 28/12/2020 13:31

It's not impossible. Could involve using the army to enforce the rules. Roadblocks. Mandatory facemasks unless you can provide medical evidence of exemption (which the NHS etc would then have to provide). Schools closed. Almost all shops closed. Travel restricted /prevented except for certain purposes which you'd have to prove. Any or possibly all of the above.

Other countries have done similar & got their cases under control very quickly but at terrible social, financial & economic cost.

nancy75 · 28/12/2020 13:33

Some things still allowed in tier 4 - kids sports classes can carry on in large groups, garden centres & other not really that essential shops & of course schools are open. I suppose tier 5 would close all of those?

nancy75 · 28/12/2020 13:34

Also people working in homes that are non essential (cleaners, decorators, estate agents)

RP17 · 28/12/2020 13:34

That made me laugh out loud Grin
notevenat20 · 28/12/2020 13:35

In tier 5 is not leaving the house it will be unenforceable.

In France you have to fill out a form explaining t why your trip out of the house is permitted whenever you leave the house (when they were in lockdown). That could be in tier 5.

summerstorms · 28/12/2020 13:35

Are the pigeons masterminding this whole thing?

LindaEllen · 28/12/2020 13:37

I think tiers are making little difference at the moment, bar the closures of pubs/shops that can't be ignored.

On an individual level, people know what it is and isn't sensible to do. They're either ignoring that or sticking to the rules. Changing the label of their tier isn't going to change their behaviour.

hopeishere · 28/12/2020 13:37

In NI at the minute your not supposed to leave the house between 8-6. And all retail closes at 8pm.

Tier 5 is schools closed.

notevenat20 · 28/12/2020 13:37

Everyone could be limited to one hour outdoors a day. We could all be made to install an app on our phone that tracks us. So many options...

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/12/2020 13:38

I think it's highly likely given it appears to be all over the press this afternoon..

I just hope they announce it soon rather than leaving everyone speculating for days.

MistleTOEboughski · 28/12/2020 13:38

I think the unfairness of "tier 5" in some areas only would really bite, it has to be a national lockdown. If they do shut schools then some more support for families with children is needed this time.

PrincessNutNuts · 28/12/2020 13:39

We had s softer lockdown than many other countries so there's plenty of scope to toughen up from Tier 4 which is even softer than the original Lockdown.

Close the schools, close everything except supermarkets. Click and collect for things like hardware stores. No mooching round the garden centre or B&Q as a family for fun. One person does the shopping once a week. A limit on how many people can be in a supermarket at the same time. 2 metre social distancing.

A stay at home order. Streets like they were in the first lockdown. It's unusual for someone to walk past your house. Groups walking together are not seen. Quiet roads. You can see one person, outside, at a 2m distance.

Contrast this with our local garden centre whose car park is full today. They're having a sale. I bet it's heaving inside. It's bad enough in the car park with kids running around colliding with older people getting help from staff to unload full trolleys into their boots. Too many people in one place.

movingonup20 · 28/12/2020 13:39

Most of Europe has had far tougher rules eg can't go more than 500m from your house. There's no appetite from our government for this though

MarshaBradyo · 28/12/2020 13:40

Tier 5 🙄

Lock down then

Is it to get round MP vote? Do tiers have an end date

PrincessNutNuts · 28/12/2020 13:42

In some countries you needed a permission slip to go out.

In some countries you couldn't travel more than a kilometre from home.

In some countries you couldn't go out at all except for work and to get food.
