Do you think tier five will happen

Or just just being said as scare tactic? What else could they really stop people doing?

@AgentProvocateur

Where I am, our lockdown was go out for food and/or medicine once every three days and you had to apply for a permit to do that. No exercise, no dog walks, and a total nighttime curfew. That’s what you call a lockdown.
It's also what I'd call animal cruelty.
PrincessNutNuts · 28/12/2020 14:06

@MistleTOEboughski

You can fuck off with your unfairness. It was fine for the south to be in tier 1/2 when places in the north haven’t been out of tier 3 since March. Indeed, fuck right off. Yes but look how much division that caused. This would be even worse.
That's the basic flaw of the Tier system.

Which is why the numbers in the next three weeks will and should lead to a national lockdown.

The "taking proactive action" window was weeks ago, it's now just a case of how fast or slow they will be reactive.

I hope for a new national lockdown to be announced this week. I hope they don't leave it so late this time.

In the last peak, in just over three weeks, between the 2nd and 23rd of April 26,566 people died of covid.

Let's not do that again.

Won't happen, so don't get too excited.
AgentProvocateur · 28/12/2020 14:07

@PinkSparklyPussyCat, I don’t disagree. Although I think it’s cruel to keep dogs in the heat of the Middle East anyway.

TammyHullfigure · 28/12/2020 14:08

I used to wonder about the people who 'used up' their one exercise outing early in the morning, as it left them such a long day at home to fill.

Most people were sensible enough to take a few walks a day.

Jesus, some people are practically salivating at the thought of a lockdown!

PilatesPeach · 28/12/2020 14:08

What would happen to bubbles? I live alone and work at gyms and clubs so not working. Am I really going to have to sit in alone for months and not see my one other person bubble?

Theotherrudolph · 28/12/2020 14:10

Well in tier 4 here and if I wanted to we could go to the garden centre, B&Q, the safari park, the outdoor parts of the local zoo, go to NT gardens and parks, use the playground, see one other person outside and theoretically go to school. People can work in other people’s houses for non essential reasons (installing a new bathroom for instance or working as a cleaner) and non essential workers can go to work on eg construction sites. I’d say there’s scope for significant tightening before we get to the welding doors shut as in China stage.

I think bubbles will stay. Covid is a danger right now but so is deteriorating mental health caused by (amongst other things) isolation.
Theotherrudolph · 28/12/2020 14:12

Oh yes, we could also have numerous “bubbles” - plenty of scope to reduce those too. Obviously at great human cost to some people but there are a lot of people stretching “childcare” bubbles etc. For example you could mandate people can only be part of one bubble, of any type.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 28/12/2020 14:12

Would help if they started mandating everyone actually wearing masks - can’t believe people can still wander outside on busy streets and in parks without them

roses2 · 28/12/2020 14:12

@InTheLongGrass

Tier 5 - schools shut, one exercise trip a day, and not to leave local area - defined as same first half of pistcode.
Not sure how they would enforce that - postcodes change every 100 metres in London!

It's disturbing isn't it? There is no end of people on these boards who are enjoying every minute of this. Something odd about them wanting to be stuck at home tutting about those who dare talk a walk with a couple of friends.

I do wonder what would happen if these same people (or their DH) lost their jobs. Suddenly life at home with the little family may not seem so rosy.

BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 28/12/2020 14:15

In Wales we’re back to March lockdown rules with the addition of no essential goods to be sold in supermarkets. School return delayed. They can sod off with forms and army patrols. They’ve taken everything else.

Neversleepingever · 28/12/2020 14:17

@summerstorms Are the pigeons masterminding this whole thing?

All of the birds died in 1986 due to Reagan killing them and replacing them with spies that are now watching us. The birds work for the bourgeoisie.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 28/12/2020 14:18

@TammyHullfigure I wonder what they'll do when this is all over, they're lives will be empty.

I actually think they are worse now than they were back in March and April and I thought that was bad enough. Rations delivered by the army, wanting roadblocks, the tightest lockdown possible, they'd be much happier in China or North Korea.

LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife · 28/12/2020 14:19

Is there really anything that is so essential you absolutely could not get by until the next delivery?

Off the top of my head, prescription medication? I'm on one that, if suddenly withdrawn, causes fits. And I've had at least two occasions when the pharmacy didn't have any & just put a note in, saying they'd have to "owe me it", like it was optional. I had to ring round other pharmacies to see who had some, & get a replacement prescription, & go to pick it up. This was all before the pandemic. And this is why I don't rely on delivery. It's unreliable. It happened again this year - I stood in the pharmacy until they sourced some more for me, & confirmed it would be in the next day.

How about, sanitary products if your DD suddenly begins her first period? Many women use reusable methods such a cup, so wouldn't have a supply in the house.
Paracetamol, calpol or similar?
Medicine for an upset stomach?
Run out of nappies?

Lots of things can happen.

MrsMariaReynolds · 28/12/2020 14:21

Oh, ffs. Adding a 5th tier would inevitably lead to absolutely no confidence in our government if that hasn't already happened

If stricter measures are needed then they need to tighten the restrictions already set out in tiers 3 & 4. No more of this half-assed lockdown nonsense. People are taking the piss.

You may be ok with that. I'll do what I have to do in order to prevent it.

Bargebill19 · 28/12/2020 14:23

@Barbie222

Pigeons and primary age children only allowed out of the house. No eye contact allowed with the pigeons.
It’s nearly been a year - batteries don’t last like they used too. 🤣🤣
Meredithgrey1 · 28/12/2020 14:24

Everyone could be limited to one hour outdoors a day. We could all be made to install an app on our phone that tracks us. So many options..

These just don’t work practically though. None of my grandparents have a phone that supports any kind of app, for example. Plus people can just leave phones at home of course.
If the population doesn’t accept it, none of the more absurd things people are suggesting are remotely enforceable without considerably more police. In the first lockdown, it wasn’t enforceable really but generally people complied far more than they are now.

Feministicon · 28/12/2020 14:24

I heard in tier 5 you can’t even look out of your own window..

Possibly this. But for lots of us who live rurally, the first half of our postcode would be very restrictive. Many people dont have a supermarket in their postcode

I wouldn't be able to do a weekly shop. Nearest supermarkets all have completely different postcodes (as in not even the same first letter).

That would work for those without smartphones (like my DH, as an example).
