Just been announced. What this time?

OP posts:
cantdothisnow1 · 21/12/2020 19:49

Thank you @cantdothisnow1, very clear. So the point is, it’s all very well saying only 20% of freight is effected, but come Brexit, it’ll also include the other 80% of freight (or the lorry problem will be 400% worse than it was today).

Yes although I don't think it is quite that simple in percentage terms as some freight goes by air and or other ports, so the focus will not be entirely on the port of Dover.

I don't know what the actual percentages will be, but it is clear it will be considerably worse than what we are seeing today in Kent.

Please let's not paint Boris as whiter than white. His first marriage, he cheated on her with his second. His second, he cheated on her with Carrie and with this wife, he had numerous affairs and fathered another child. So I have no idea if he left her before she had cancer, but undoubtedly was cheating on her.

His children at the time called him a selfish bastard.

WotWouldCJDo · 21/12/2020 19:52

Yep, I just couldn’t get a handle on “80% worse” but thought it was just a slip of the tongue.

Wellthiswillhelp · 21/12/2020 21:06

How the actual fuck do you say Mirror with one syllable? At least I've learnt something from this thread as the press conference was a waste of my time.

summerstorms · 21/12/2020 21:22

@Wellthiswillhelp

Maybe a Belfast accent?

SixesAndEights · 21/12/2020 22:26

BTW everyone, it's 945 and rising lorries on the M20, not 174.

I'm shocked. Shocked.

Callipygion · 21/12/2020 23:15

Jayson Winters writes a damning indictment of the modern Conservative party:

"A pact seems to have formed between Johnson and his parliamentary party. They won’t mount a vote of no confidence over his corruption and incompetence and he won’t sack them for theirs."

East Midlands Bylines

Caprice the 90s model (remember her, anyone?) said it that way back in the day. Marvelled at it at the time.

I think it was around 500 at the time he gave the press conference.

174 is such a specific number I’d love to know where they got it from and what it referred to. Red lorries? U.K. lorries?

TheKeatingFive · 22/12/2020 00:25

Totally works. Mirrrrr.

Fuckingcrustybread · 22/12/2020 00:43

@WotWouldCJDo

I was surprised that, alas, non of the journalists picked up on both BJ and GS stating that only 20% of our EU trade has been impacted by these manned lorries not being able to cross the border. That surely means that the situation will be 80% worse in the event of a no deal in 11 days?

I don’t quite get this point, is it just a slip with percentages?

Nothing will ever be impacted by any thing. Something may have an impact on another thing. Impact is a noun. Use language properly
Choux · 22/12/2020 01:26

@Fuckingcrustybread impact can also be a verb. It means have a strong effect on someone or something. An example
"high interest rates have impacted on retail spending"

Also, it costs nothing to be polite and, if you are subsequently corrected, it looks more like an honest mistake than misplaced arrogance.

If you are going to be so rude as to correct another person's grammar, make sure you are correct.

Things can most definitely be impacted as the PP pointed out.

If I was being rude I would tell you to use names properly, I was quoting somebody else, those were not my words.
