Just been announced. What this time?

OP posts:

@SixesAndEights

Being serious for a moment, you might have thought they'd mention the fact that the EU has closed its borders to us, as has much of the rest of the world, and how that might progress over the next few days.
Not mentioned was it?
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/12/2020 17:53

As far as I can tell, it looks like we’ve still only received the 800,000. So if we’ve vaccinated over half a million then there’s potentially a problem on the horizon.

Jeremy Hunt seemed to think there was an issue with supply even before this problem. Pfizer seem to be denying it, but it’s got a bit buried with the new variant and Kent border problem.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/12/2020 17:54

Not mentioned was it?

I think it was mentioned in as far as it’s all going to be fine and new opportunities to prosper etc etc.

littleowl1 · 21/12/2020 17:55

The table of cases in each council in England is now updated with today's data on www.covidmessenger.com. You can filter by county which makes it easy to see the cases and cases per 100K in all the councils in your county.

I added the county filtering functionality yesterday as tiering appears now to e very much decided at county level so being able to see what is happening in all your surrounding counties is particularly helpful, I think.

Feel free to share with family and friends. I update it everyday with the data released in the daily data release from the govt.

Iamaweirdone · 21/12/2020 17:57

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay that’s exactly what I’m thinking. Potentially there’s 100,000 people (so far) who may not be able to get the second dose if we don’t get another delivery.

SixesAndEights · 21/12/2020 17:59

@RhubarbTea

I thought BoJo looked really haggard and worried, like he'd been up all night. And agree about the hair. It was a bit boring so I switched off half way through.
Only because his holiday plans have been fucked up! Don't imagine for one second he gives a stuff about any of this other than how inconvenient it is.

So much contempt for us ordinary folk without the benefit of a buffer of loads of money.

The whole thing's tedious for him! You can see it oozing out of his pores. He's probably got a calender counting down the days to January when his job's done and he can scarper.

cantdothisnow1 · 21/12/2020 18:01

I was surprised that, alas, non of the journalists picked up on both BJ and GS stating that only 20% of our EU trade has been impacted by these manned lorries not being able to cross the border.

That surely means that the situation will be 80% worse in the event of a no deal in 11 days?

SixesAndEights · 21/12/2020 18:01

Personally I was thinking things might be better by next Easter, but now he's said it, I doubt it will be.

Sparklfairy · 21/12/2020 18:02

I missed all the fun as I was working Sad so wait, what? They're trying to get the lorries to Manston?? I'm not far from there and the roads are a nightmare at the best of times! Not that any of us are going anywhere in Tier 4 but they've cut Thanet off from the rest of East Kent by doing that. There's only two roads in or out!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/12/2020 18:03

I think it would be 200,000. If we’ve used 500,000 then we’ve only got 300,000 left. And the more we continue without having a date for a new set the worse it gets.

I really hope they haven’t screwed this up and they know what they are doing.

Iamaweirdone · 21/12/2020 18:06

@RafaIsTheKingOfClay yes my mistake. I’m finding this really worrying. So they could (again potentially) be wasting all of these vaccines by not having enough to give the vital second dose?

Sobeyondthehills · 21/12/2020 18:06

I have just had a look at twitter and I did miss a bit where Preston was asking about Brexit and both Johnson and Shapps chuckled.

That is what we are dealing we, fuck knows how we are going to cope in January

His clutching at straws. Kicking the can down the road. All those things because he knows he won't be there Easter to see if things are any better at all.
SixesAndEights · 21/12/2020 18:07

Ooops, ignore the quoted bit!

MassiveSalad · 21/12/2020 18:08

Dont leave the house at all and MN zealots will put together a ration parcel to be delivered to you -including dry bread 3 tsp milk and "a massive salad"

OY. Taking my name in vain. Tsk tsk.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/12/2020 18:09

At least leave me hope sixesandeights.

I don’t have any confidence but I can hope.

We both picked up on that as well
UnholyStramash · 21/12/2020 18:10

@BonnieDundee, that makes sense though I’d find it a bit scary in rough seas.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/12/2020 18:11

Isn’t that a bit like when he keeps banging on about 70% of the PPE we need now being made in Britain and no one asks about what happens to the other 30% after 1st Jan.

UnholyStramash · 21/12/2020 18:13

Better by Easter. Normal by Christmas. My 60th in late April. I’ll organise a big party now. Hmm

willsantausesantatize · 21/12/2020 18:14

Ohh, the daily mail headline ' Boris blunders his way through another press conference'
Hmm.

SixesAndEights · 21/12/2020 18:18

Softening people up for him disappearing in January.

Although where he's going to bugger off to if the world's borders are closed is anyone's guess!

SoscaredforJan · 21/12/2020 18:18

Did he say anything about schools going back or not next term? I’m too anxious to watch it.

WeatherwaxOn · 21/12/2020 18:23

@Dongdingdong

but even I would have handled this much better as a PM.

Sure you would.

Well, if those in power had listened to what was going on in the world, they'd have locked down last October, stopped incoming flights as far as possible and enforced quarantine on those who had to fly in. There was plenty of indication that a pandemic was brewing and it was foolhardy to allow the situation to develop as it had. Secondly, putting 'the economy' before public health is morally reprehensible. There is plenty of money but it's been squandered on pointless things. We don't need to spend millions on nuclear defence, but we could have spent it on getting food and providing support to people who needed it. That's my two pen'orth.
