I keep seeing anti vaccine threads. False info about immunity passports and that the vaccine is going to be compulsory.

It is not going to be compulsory.

Health passports are going to be ridiculously hard to implement they can’t even manage track and trace fgs.

Get a grip

TBF this doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, they have only said "no plans for now"

www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-55143484

It isn't about getting a grip or not, but more about a total distrust of the government. Continue your rant though.

meditrina · 02/12/2020 18:30

The false info is about the Welsh announcement that you will get a card which records your immunisation. A bit like a free-standing version the existing International Vaccination Certificate (yellow book)

This is being twisted into a 'freedom pass'

As it is possible that people might want to travel to countries which might require proof, it makes sense to issue proof of vaccination at point of vaccination, rather than try and play catch up from GP records

juglover2008 · 02/12/2020 18:39

I'm friends with a lady who's worked in a lab making vacines for over 30 years and I trust her a hell of a lot more than some random person on social media who's only information has come from Google. I also trust that if she happy for herself and family to have the vacines there's a good chance they are safe

StealthPolarBear · 02/12/2020 18:40

Thwy really are aren't they. On here and on Facebook.

Stellaris22 · 02/12/2020 19:50

It's quite scary really, the ease at which people will trust and believe something they've read on social media over experts in that field. People aren't 'stupid' for believing conspiracy theories, but gullible when scared. Spouting these vaccines as falsely dangerous on social media is awful.

Since when did the average MNetter have decades of experience and knowledge in vaccine research and production? I for one would like to see their qualifications when posting these claims, not just 'I googled this so it must be true'.

Bushola · 02/12/2020 20:00

To be fair the pro vaxers are as bad as the anti vaxers.

It’s the pro/anti mask, pro/anti lockdown and Leave/Remain fights all over again both sides of each were as bad as each other in each of those issues.

busybanana · 02/12/2020 20:37

Ah, that explains why a FB friend posted a picture of sheep and a quote about fools believing lies!

QueenBlueberries · 02/12/2020 20:41

Out in full force on here for sure. Some of the threads should come with a warning.

I think Mumsnet is not acting on this and they should. Straight away.

LindaEllen · 02/12/2020 20:44

I think a distinction needs to be made between 'anti-vaxxers' and just people who are looking for more information and evidence before accepting this particular vaccine.

The two are NOT the same thing.

QueenBlueberries · 02/12/2020 20:46

People are looking for information - yes for sure, but anti vaxxers are there to plant doubt and propagate completely false information.

And also pretend that 'I'm not anti vax, really I'm not, but'. You buy that crap?

TheyPavedParadise · 02/12/2020 20:49

The thing is, it is quite normal to have questions about something that you’re injecting into your body.
And I say that as someone who is more than happy to have this vaccination. I just don’t like that anyone with questions/concerns is dismissed as an ‘anti vaxxer’. Surely it’s better to provide links to information that may reassure the people who have concerns, rather than just accusing them of thinking Bill Gates wants to implant them with something?
Sometimes people just need a bit of reassurance.

Quite. I am not an anti-vaxxer at all (my kids have had all their vaccines as per the intended schedule) but I won't be first in the queue for this one. I'll hold my hands up and say I'm nervous about the speed of the development and testing. How can they possibly agree it's safe with no long term effects? Just look at the rushed 2009/2010 Swine Flu vaccine and the issues that some people (inc kids) had with developing narcolepsy afterwards (Google "Pandemrix narcolepsy").

They really should!

70 000 people have died, probably many many more, directly because of the virus.

That's it.

If and only if there may be some side effects for some people, do you think it will reach 70 000 deaths in this country alone? I think not.

No one has said that, have they? It doesn’t mean people aren’t allowed to have questions though.

No that’s not right. Even the government/ NHS with their misleading figures say it’s death with Covid and not of Covid.

Perfect example there of a pro vaxer being misleading.

Anti vaxxers out in force?
Good! Plenty waiting behind them in the queue ready to jump in front.

When we're told it's going to take months just to get it to the vulnerable, anti vaxxers are almost doing us a favour.

Anti vaxxers should be able to formally sign over their place in the queue - to somebody further down who does want the vaccine.

Bushola · 02/12/2020 21:13

@SheepandCow people who don’t want the vaccine won’t be in the queue so it’s not an issue.

Very pro vax here and happy to have this one if deemed necessary to protect others, but also happy to forego my place in the queue for anyone who wants it ahead of me.

Some of you lot are mad.

What’s wrong with questioning something you’re about to be injected with? Why not? Don’t you have any concerns or questions? None at all?

@pontypridd

Some of you lot are mad.

My questions would generally be ones like "has this gone through clinical trials?" and "has it been approved by regulators?", so when the answers are yes and yes, I'm happy to take it.

What kind of questions do you have that you think other people are mad not to ask?

You must take a very long time doing your food shop!
RoseAndRose · 02/12/2020 21:23

So what are your questions?

pontypridd · 02/12/2020 21:23

You must take a very long time doing your food shop!

Why? I don’t inject myself with food.

Food doesn’t generally have side effects. Not the kind I buy and eat anyway.

knittingaddict · 02/12/2020 21:25

Literally my only question is "when?"

"Now?"

"Great."
