Holidays are not essential, so I would imagine it's a no.

Why would they need to? They listed the only reasons you can leave your home. Travel is not one of those reasons.

I'm sure they'll give a full list of restrictions before Thursday but most newspapers online are giving a better idea of what is and isn't allowed.

No non essential travel (within the UK or internationally).

That not only makes it less likely this will drag out, but it also makes things much safer for people who have a genuine need to travel.

What I saw that boggles me was on sky news it says 'international travel outside the UK is banned except for work purposes". I am about to pop a baby so I am 100% not getting on a plane, but I was thinking how can they enforce that? How do they know that people arent travelling for work? What happens if a relative dies or gets sick abroad and you have to travel to them? I presume they cant stop citizens from other countries leaving to go home. Flights wont actually be cancelled I presume. Also, what about people coming in? You cant turn them around at passport control. It was just the fact they said 'banned' and not 'discouraged'

Many other countries have successfully restricted their borders during the pandemic. At one point more than didn't. We were one of the outliers.

That said compassionate travel, such as visiting a very sick or dying relative, is arguably far more essential than a bankers ski work trip.

Still we're taking a step in the right direction. 8-9 months too late but it's better late than never.

In theory anything is possible - have a look at how Australia handled it, though I don't believe for one minute the UK will handle it the same way.

Travel is essential if we want to get to our second home.

Holidays are NOT on the list.

My partner's child lives abroad with his mother and we're booked to go over for a weekend in a few weeks for contact.
Given that shared care within the UK is permitted do you think that's an acceptable reason to travel?

They've missed out on so much time together this year already and are desperate to see one another and his 3yo sister
