Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with. There are specific exceptions, for example if you need to stay away from home (including in a second home) for work purposes.

To be honest, we will need to see what the regulations say when published and brought into law - ie to see what is the law (“mist not”) and what is guidance(“should not”)

Jaxhog · 31/10/2020 22:07

It would be pretty insensitive to travel to your second home right now.

Choux · 31/10/2020 22:07

Seems like it's ok to go to a second home for work purposes. Is this an attempt to allow MPs and their families to travel at will. Looking at you Robert Jenrick!

If you are in a support bubble with someone you can still stay overnight at their house can't you? Am due to take my 80 year old dad to a hospital apptmt on Friday and I live 200+ miles away so was going to stay a few days. We are a bubble.

YogaLite · 31/10/2020 22:07

I would check with Cummings family regarding travel to second homes Wink

SixesAndEights · 31/10/2020 22:12

@orangetriangle

fgs just stay at home
There are always arseholes.
over50andfab · 31/10/2020 22:15

Wonder what will happen for those who are already on a U.K. break away. I have a friend who went today for a week, booked a while ago.

crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 22:15

From the new government rules:

Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed- including holidays in the UK and abroad. This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with.

but travel to care for a vulnerable person is ok:

travelling to education and for caring responsibilities

randomchatter · 31/10/2020 22:16

UK locations like Cornwall have much higher numbers of COVID than during the start of the pandemic in the Spring. Likewise a few overseas destinations such as some popular Caribbean islands.

Is there a connection? If you see a connection do you still indulge in a holiday?

Echobelly · 31/10/2020 22:21

Lay your best - how many tories are going to go their second homes during this?

HotToCold · 31/10/2020 22:22

He didnt actually talk about holidays but he did list the reasons you can leave home!!!!

And going on holiday wasnt one of them!!!! Ffs

Echobelly · 31/10/2020 22:22

*bets

crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 22:27

@xxreeldancerxx

How many people will be tempted to travel to Scotland airports to fly on holiday??
that's not allowed either, it's not essential travel.
HotToCold · 31/10/2020 22:29

So many people thinking how to get around the rules!

Its people like you why this virus is still out there!

Ffs.

Just stay home as much as tou can apart from essential travel

Is it that hard???????

ballsdeep · 31/10/2020 22:29

FFS honest to god no wonder we are in another lockdown!!!

Summerfreeze · 31/10/2020 22:34

What difference does being in your second home make rather than being in your primary one?

I’ll still be going to mine. I pay council tax in that area and need to maintain my property. Plus it’s my house. I don’t accept it being against the law to go to my own house, sorry.

nicerbeing · 31/10/2020 22:35

@pontypridd

Funny they didn’t mention travel isn’t it?

I think it was covered under 'stay at home'

houselikeashed · 31/10/2020 22:35

Why on earth would you be considerings going on holiday during a national lockdown? Do you actually want to prolong this awful pandemic?

Just do what you're told and stop trying to bend the rules to suit yourself.

SheepandCow · 31/10/2020 22:36

@Echobelly

Replace 'tories' with 'MPs'. It was all parties last time.
Newuname199987 · 31/10/2020 22:36

Do you really have to ask this? Of course you can’t go on holiday, it’s hardly essential is it?

Overnight stays and holidays away from primary residences will not be allowed – including holidays in the UK and abroad.

"This includes staying in a second home, if you own one, or staying with anyone you do not live with or are in a support bubble with.

Honestly this can’t really be much clearer can it - no you can’t go on holiday, there is a global pandemic taking place, yes it’s shit but just stick to the rules. I really do despair, there’s a rule and immediately people are trying to get round it ‘I’ll go to my holiday home to work’,

crazyfrogs · 31/10/2020 22:37

@Aridane

It already states will not be allowed so it couldn't be clearer.
houselikeashed · 31/10/2020 22:38

Summerfreeze
Why do you think you are allowed to travel around the UK just because you have a second home?
Please don't travel.

Wnikat · 31/10/2020 22:40

No visits to second homes

They mentioned not going anywhere unless you have to. You don't have to on holiday. Personally I think anybody would be mad to.

Conveniently the MPs were on recess this week so will already be safely out of London...
